Fan-made Helldivers 2 Warbond concept pays homage to history

There’s no end to amazing fan concepts and ideas. After the immensely interesting stealth kit proposal we showcased earlier, there came another that caught our attention. Taking a step back to remember those who came before us, one fan made an interesting concept for a Warbond that takes inspiration from the World Wars of our own history.

Freedom’s Forefathers fan-made Warbond concept

Reddit user Sgtpepperhead67 has come up with an interesting Warbond idea. What if we had a Warbond that evoked the American troopers and armaments from the World Wars of the 20th century? It could definitely work, though retro-futurism isn’t everyone’s cup of liber-tea.

The proposed concept features ideas for three weapons, two armors, a player title, and a booster. Let’s go through them and their inspirations. The three proposed weapons are a rifle, SMG, and a pistol. The rifle was inspired by the M1903 Springfield rifle, though interestingly enough, the name M2016 Constitution comes from Helldivers 1, which was also inspired by the Springfield. The proposed submachine gun is called SMG-20 Annihilator, though the silhouette clearly resembles the classic Tompson. There was a different Thompson variant that bore the nickname Annihilator, the M1919 I, whose silhouette would’ve featured two hand grips with a short clip between them. Lastly, the gun is called M-11 Old Reliable and is likely inspired by the Colt M1911A1.

When it comes to armor, the two silhouettes are a no-brainer, both of which are inspired by the US infantry regiments. The GW-14 Doughboy seems to be the lighter variant, inspired by the shape and name for the American infantry during World War I. Though the origin of the name is still a mystery, it can be dated as far back as mid-nineteenth century and the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. The second armor is called GW-17 Screaming Eagle, an obvious reference to the famed WW2 101st Airborn Division paratrooper regiment bearing the same moniker. Though technically formed (and demobilized) at the very end of WWI, the division wouldn’t gain their fame an notoriety until the second world conflict.

The player title, Super G.I.. is also straightforward, evoking the common name for American soldiers during World War II. Once again, there is no consensus on what is the abbreviation for, with theories commonly revolving around “General Infantry”, Garrison Issue”, and “Government Issue”, to name just a few. Lastly, the booster is called Heroic Sacrifice, and proposes the idea that Eagle fighters would stay and deploy their remaining payloads even after the Super Destroyer has left the planet’s orbit.

The community, of course, took to this idea with gusto. Many have already proposed a plethora of other weapons that could be included, such as the BAR, M2 Browning, and many others. Some have speculated on what would be the armor’s unique perk. The most popular idea would suggest increasing the carried magazine amount or reduced stagger effect.

All in all, we love to see the community’s creative juices flowing, especially when they’re inspired by real-world history. We hope to see more of these ideas, and while it’s unlikely that Arrowhead will take direct inspiration from them, at least we can hope that they acknowledge the way the fans are thinking. There are so many avenues they could take with future Warbonds, so why not one that’s inspired by the past?
