“Everyone Wants to Be John Helldiver” Players Reveal What Is Ruining Cooperation in Helldivers 2

Helldievers 2 team on the move

You are probably aware of some of the current problems, mostly the lack of new content. However, especially if you are a veteran, you might not notice some other issues. According to some newer players, there is very little cooperation in Helldivers 2. Now, that sounds quite strange, since Helldivers 2 is a co-op, but if you think about it, many players have become quite independent lately.

Players Play Solo Instead of With Their Team

One player took to Reddit and shared their unfortunate experiences in the game. RedHellgar recalled several instances in which they were left without any support while doing the Objective. This seems to be quite a common occurrence lately.

The OP noted: “The lack of cooperation is really infuriating and I wish people would stop just going anywhere they liked and doing what they wanted. In a recent mission, the main objective was to raise flags and it started well. But during the flag raising the other 3 guys just went anywhere and suddenly I stood against 3 bug breaches by myself, which I didn’t survive and set back the mission progress”.

This wasn’t the only instance where the OP was abandoned by their teammates. They added: “Or in another mission, we went on from one objective. I marked the nearest other one on the map, which was retrieving a mutant larva and destroying a stalker lair near that, which I also faced alone, because the others went just anywhere, but the objectives”.

Now, we’ve all wandered off during some missions, that’s completely normal. At the same time, we’ve never blatantly ignored our teammates, that’s just rude. We always try to treat others the way we want to be treated. Since we’d never want to be abandoned by our teammates, we never abandon them.

Helldivers Explain What Happened to Cooperation

We’ll always insist on treating our teammates with respect, but lately, the instances of rude behavior have increased. Some devoted Helldivers tried their best to explain what was it that made some players rude and, well, selfish.

One player, UnlikelyDragonfly490, suggested: “That’s the consequence of the buff patch, so many people believe they’re John Helldiver. So they go around causing bug breaches and eating through revives”.

This theory is certainly possible. After the 60-day patch, some of the weapons became overpowered (in the best way possible!). However, that meant that the players didn’t have to rely on each other as much. So, some players became so independent that they started ignoring their teammates.

Now, don’t get us wrong, some strategies involve a player separating from the group and completing the Objective while their team is fighting off the bad guys. Or a player sacrificing themself and leading a horde of bad guys so that their teammates could finish the Objective. Or the team splitting into pairs which can then tackle Objectives independently. These are all valid strategies.

Unfortunately, a team splitting into four solo players rarely has a good outcome. You could be playing a solo mission, why even team up? However, we’d like to point out that communication is always key. If you are all for splitting up, go for it, enjoy your game. But, if you don’t see eye to eye with your teammates, you can always leave the match and search for a better fit.

So, communicate with your teammates, maybe you’ll find common ground and spread some Managed Democracy together. Or, if you don’t, you’ll be able to join another team that shares your point of view. There is a Major Order in progress, so it’s time to squish some bugs. For Liberty and Super Earth.
