Helldivers 2 devs showered by an outpouring of community support in the wake of the update

Following the release of Helldivers 2 patch 01.001.007, the community has rallied in support of the devs. Battered and bruised after successive nerfs, this patch has been a long-anticipated beacon for the citizens of Super Earth. Reverting many previous nerfs with straight-up buffs and many other positive changes, the fans have responded in kind.

The update brings a positive breath of fresh air

Moments after the patch landed, players flocked to express their renewed support for Arrowhead Game Studios, signalling that these changes are moving the game in the right direction. Some fans have taken to ridiculing doubters and doomsayers, while others have taken a more measured approach. But everything points towards a positive shift in the community’s perception of the recently faltering game.

Of course, there is such a thing as a knee-jerk reaction. The patch is barely off the presses so some time is advised for everyone to get accustomed to the new changes. We, and many others, suggest caution and giving the patch some time to settle and for the new meta to appear. Despite buffs, every change needs to go through the players’ scrutiny and in-game testing.

Will Helldivers 2 become too easy with all the buffs?

There’s trepidation with some fans that the game may become too simple now that most weapons have been buffed. However, checking out the patch notes, we can see that some enemies have received buffs too, or have been reworked in some ways. For example, Automaton Berserkers may have had their health reduced, but their chainsaws deal more damage in trade-off. On the other hand, Chargers and Bile Titans received straight-up nerfs. We’ll have to test it out and see how that affects the gameplay loop, especially on higher difficulties.

As SeniorEnd7176 points out on Reddit, after everything, players want to feel powerful again. Besides, it will be easier to balance the game from the ground up by increasing enemy difficulty in the future, without taking away from player power. For now, we may get the chance to feel like stalwart defenders of democracy for a time, before the next inevitable patch cycle. Our bet is that the next one will curtail this rise in player power, simply based on the game’s patch history.

Players call for a stand to support the devs

Last but not least, we all remember the various back-and-forths of reviews for the game. From positive, to negative, then positive again, then negative again, all based on various decisions within and around the game. From the famous PS Plus account controversy to overnerfing that caused the most recent negative trend.

Now, some community members call for another pass, to signal the devs that they are behind changes from patch 01.001.007. Review bombing can be both positive and negative, and some believe it is time for a positive spin. Any new positive reviews can pull the game out of the slump it has faced over the past few months. Will it be enough? Time will tell, but the players believe it will signal their appreciation for the more positive changes coming our way.
