The Helldivers 2 devs are ready to celebrate Liberty Day with a fun orientation video

With Liberty Day mere days away, even Arrowhead is boarding the hype train along with the Helldivers 2 players. To remind you, we are yet to see what will happen on the day itself. Fans have come out with all sorts of speculation, from wild wishlists to more grounded ones. Yet there was not even a peep from the devs, except for a cryptic message by Baskinator on Discord. With all that said, it’s great to see that the devs are joining in the hype ahead of the celebration.

Arrowhead Narrative Director explains Liberty Day

To preface, the official Helldivers 2 X account posted a message, stating: “Liberty Day is almost here! All recruits are ordered to watch the mandatory briefing on the History of Liberty Day. And remember: this isn’t just a holiday — it’s a celebration of Managed Democracy!”

Along with the message, there’s a link to an older video in which Nils Hansson Bjerke, the Narrative Lead at Arrowhead, goes on to explain a little bit of lore behind the celebration. He gives us a little bit of background about how Managed Democracy came to power on Super Earth and what the Liberty Day celebration encompasses. It’s filled with tongue-in-cheek humour that we’ve come to expect in Helldivers 2, as well as fun images to go along with the narrative. We especially loved the burning robot surrounded by gifts. That was a nice touch.

As expected, the community welcomed this with open arms and in good spirits. TioSmalls commented: “I feel even freer just from watching that, thank you Managed Democracy!”, while Space Coyote added: “Democracy fills my sample container.” But this is the internet, and not everyone agrees. Ever. Carnage was in a less celebratory spirit, commenting: “Start actually adding things to the game. I WANT to play it but there isn’t anything to do… and make a roadmap, the whole “we don’t do that” thing is getting old.”

The Liberty Day celebration is set to occur in just a few days, on Saturday, October 26. The community is excited to find out what the devs have cooked up for the occasion. As mentioned, rumours and wishes are running rampant, but at the end of the day, we’ll all just have to wait and see. With that said, we know that we’ll be on our Super Destroyers to mark the occasion. What are your plans for the festivities?
