As you probably know by now, the amazing new update, Omens of Tyranny, dropped on December 12. This update featured urban environments, a brand-new vehicle, and, of course, the Illuminate. Now, several days later, Helldivers 2 devs shared some official details about the Omens of Tyranny update and the Illuminate.
Helldivers 2 Devs Issue an Official Omens of Tyranny Briefing
PlayStation channel on YouTube shared a video featuring all of your favorite devs excitedly talking about the new additions. Ever since the dynamic duo, Pilestedt and Malmborg, made videos for the September update, the players have been asking for more. Just like the devs delivered the Illuminate, they delivered great commentary on Omens of Tyranny.
The devs first reflected on the Fast Recon Vehicle, FRV, calling it “the peak of human technology in terms of what is fun”. Malmborg added: “Completely made to make sure that you are safe inside the car. Sure, some people may die”.
The devs then discussed the Illuminate, an ancient civilization destroyed in the First Galactic War. Stephen Flowers, a senior writer, noted: “They hate freedom and want to destroy us. These aliens, they’re scary”.
Youssef Khatib, the game designer, revealed: “You will be a lot less able to just go in guns blazing, and you have to be thoughtful about how you approach them”. Even though there are fewer of their units, they are tougher to defeat.
The devs also talked about Voteless. According to Flowers: “They have lost their minds, but also something even deeper which is their ability to vote”. Pilestedt explained the game mechanics around the Voteless. These ex-citizens are blind, but they can hear very well, so using stealth mechanics is the way to go.
Overseer shepherds the Voteless around, be careful around them, as they are quite smart. Harvesters are super advanced war machines, but you can manage to squeeze in a shot or two before they notice you and raise their shields.
Finally, the devs talked about the colonies and fighting in the urban environment. You never know what’s waiting for you behind the corner or whether you’ll hit a dead-end while running from enemies.
Helldivers Appreciate the Devs and Look Forward to Eradicating the Illuminate
Players truly love every official video delving deeper into the Helldivers 2 lore, and learning more about the Illuminate hit the sweet spot. So, the community gladly sang praises to their favorite developers.
Chesse007 noted: “I don’t know guys, but Arrowhead studio feels like current top-tier developers. This video alone shows that they have great minds and having fun while making this game for us gamers. No BS around, just pure fun and chaos. This is a live game done right. I love their humor and how they even put bugs/mistakes into lore”.
Other players pointed out that it was crucial to fend off the Illuminate as long as possible. Although we have to admit, one of the last frames of the video, that purple-ish glitch over the senior writer’s face, kinda has us worried that something even bigger is coming.
