During a recent interview at the G-Star Conference in Busan, Korea, developers revealed some of their plans for the game. Among them, there was a mention of recognizing Chaosdivers in the official Helldivers 2 lore. Although some would call this an amazing accomplishment, Chaosdivers aren’t too thrilled about losing their anonymity.
The Rebel Faction Might Become Official in Helldivers 2
As a reminder, Chaosdivers appeared back in August, following the Escalation of Freedom debacle. They were openly against Super Earth and refused to participate in Major Orders. At first, Helldivers despised this group as they thought the Chaosdivers were advocating for team killings. However, over time, the Chaosdivers established their own community and even started issuing Chaos Orders.
On November 14, Shams Jorjani (the CEO) and Johan Pilestedt (the CCO) were interviewed by the Inven webzine. Keep in mind that the article was written in Korean and auto-translated, so some names and terms are off.
The devs talked about what made the game change course and what the plans for the future were. What we truly admired was the fact that these devs emphasized the importance of listening to the community.
While talking about what helped them find their way back to creating a fun game, they talked about the importance of community input. That’s where the Chaosdivers came in.
Shams Jorjani noted: “I think a lot of people at the time were frustrated with us not communicating, so they turned into Chaos Divers”. Pilestedt quipped in: “We’re thinking about how to incorporate these “Chaos Divers” into the game now”. This duo commended the players who gave negative reviews and helped the developers return to the right path.
Chaosdivers Speak Their Mind
Devoted Helldivers 2 players think this is a lovely gesture, however, Chaosdivers aren’t necessarily interested in becoming part of the official lore. Not only would that put a target on their back, but it would take away their creative freedom.
HigashikataGarfielf noted: “Sounds like possible lore implementation into the game itself, a rebel faction, or maybe cosmetics. Though, that might inspire ‘loyalists’ to kick or kill on sight, so probably not that. With the way the game is set up, there aren’t very many ways to incorporate them that would facilitate well with their ideology or the game mechanics”.
Another Chaosdiver, junkhaus, stated: “Consider the crab mentality of those people who went after Creek veterans. The public bullying would be on an even greater magnitude. If they wrote Chaosdivers as a side piece in one of their in-game dispatches maybe it could work, or it could stoke more negativity from the loyalists”.
Surprisingly, or not, loyalists were all for Chaosdivers becoming official. However, we do understand that Chaosdivers have reasons to fear this. We hope that the devs will somehow find a solution for this, maybe even consult Chaosdivers in the process. As for all of us loyalists, a new Major Order is in progress, so let’s get on top of it. For Liberty and Super Earth.
