Helldivers 2 CCO Teases More Customization and Weapon Upgrades

Pilestedt, the Helldivers 2 CCO, made an impromptu Q&A on August 22. He answered lots of fans’ burning questions and even agreed with them that the weapons should be more powerful. The CCO used the opportunity to talk about possible future additions to Helldivers 2, such as customization and weapon upgrades.

The CCO Talks Customization and New Weapon Upgrades

Pilestedt mostly kept the answers short and vague, but he did offer some interesting details the players can look forward to. He noted: “I think we need weapon upgrades and customization to be able to tailor playstyle for advanced divers”.

The CCO went on to disclose that mech customization was actually in “active discussion”. Now, that doesn’t have to mean that it will be available any time soon, but at least it gives the players some hope for the future. Pilestedt also mentioned that armor customization was in progress. He said: “The team is working on a color mod system (same as vehicle patterns) for armors”.

Finally, one player, Arkaiko, asked about weapon upgrades. They said: “Could we get some weapon lab, to improve weapons using Samples? Once you have them maxed out they are pretty much useless, only picked up for the team. Could be a good way to improve your most used and beloved weapon and give maxed players something to do”. The CCO responded: “Haha you are close to what we are working on”.

Helldivers 2 Players Appreciate the Effort, But…

As much as devoted Helldivers 2 players appreciated that the CCO was sharing some info on the weapon upgrades and customization, many were more concerned about the current state of the game. TheFlyingSheeps stated: “I think they need to just focus all efforts on fixing bugs and performance issues first”.

Other players, like RoundTiberius, expressed their disbelief. They noted: “They can’t even balance the existing weapons, now he wants to introduce more complications. What’s even the point? People will unlock an upgrade that kills chargers too quickly, and they will turn around and nerf it to the ground”.

More helpful players, like Commander_Skullblade, suggested gradual improvements. This player said: “If he wants to get people on board, we need more than just hypotheticals from a guy whose team has taken every opportunity to undermine his authority and our enjoyment of the game. Even little patches at a time working at the problem help, but even if the work is too great, at least give us a timeline”.

Well, we think that any community input is very valuable. Maybe Arrowhead could slow down and take notes from their players, as some of them are quite good. Hopefully, they will listen and act accordingly. Stay valiant for Super Earth and Managed Democracy.
