NetherRealm Studios is offering a free upgrade to Mortal Kombat 11 console owners who want to play the franchise game on PS5. Here’s how to get the upgrade:
For physical purchase owners:
- Sign in to your PS5 account.
- Insert your Mortal Kombat 11 disc into your PS5.
- Go to the Mortal Kombat 11 Game Hub.
- Select the “Free PS5 upgrade” button on the right side of the screen.
- The game will download and install.
- Once the installation is complete, you can play Mortal Kombat 11 on your PS5.
For digital owners:
- Sign in to your PS5 account.
- Go to the PlayStation Store and search for “Mortal Kombat 11.”
- Select the “Free PS5 upgrade” button on the right side of the screen.
- The upgrade will download and install.
- Once the installation is complete, you can start playing Mortal Kombat 11.
Important notes:
- You must have a PS5 with a disc drive to get the free upgrade if you own the physical edition of Mortal Kombat 11.
- If you purchased the MK11: Aftermath Collection or MK11 Ultimate, you will need to redeem the paper code voucher inside the game box to access all the upcoming content.

Will the PS4 Game Progression Transfer to PS5 After the Upgrade?
Yes, as long as you have signed into the same PlayStation ID, then all custom characters, inventories and rewards will move over to PS5. The Previous Towers of Time and Krypt progression will also be on PS5, however the story progress part 1 and part 2 will not be, but luckily any rewards earned from these campaigns will be moved over.
