If you’re just starting on your Fallout journey, join us with our list of the best 5 beginner tips for Fallout 4. The release of a Next-gen patch has brought many new and veteran players back to the game. The Wasteland is waiting, and to get players ready to face the harsh environment, we have assembled the best starting tips for all.

Fallout 4: Top 5 Best Beginner Tips

In Fallout 4, there are many different ways to grapple with survival in the post-apocalyptic environment. Although there is no wrong or better way to play the game, we highly recommend that players experiment with many potential character builds. Below, players can find useful beginner tips that can help them have an easier start.

1. Don’t Stress About S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Stats Allocation

At the start of the game, players get 21 points to allocate to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats as they see fit. The allocation of these points will directly influence the playstyle you are going for and the perks players can take early on. The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats can be improved during the game, so players don’t have to stress about the choices made at the start.

Every time the player gains a level, they can choose to increase one of their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats or select a perk from the available perks. Luckily, there is no level cap in Fallout 4, meaning that with enough time invested in the game, one character will eventually unlock everything.

2. Maximize Experience Gained

Every action taken in Fallout 4 rewards players with experience points, and because the game doesn’t have a level cap, levelling fast will allow players to reach more perks and higher S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats quicker. There are several ways you can boost your experience gain, although two of the best ones are mutually exclusive.

High Intelligence

In Fallout 4, players get more experience from all sources the higher their Intelligence S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat is. The mathematics behind it goes like this: for every point of intelligence, players receive a 3% increase in experience gained to a maximum of 30%.

Idiot Savant perk

On the other hand, if you don’t want to play a high-intelligence character, the Idiot Savant perk offers an alternative. This perk gives players a 3x multiplayer to the experience gained, which happens randomly depending on how low their Intelligence stat is. Investing in this perk further will increase the multiplier gained to 5x. One thing to note – to take this perk, the character needs to have a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Luck stat on rank 5.

Well Rested

Well Rested is a temporary perk that provides a +10% experience gain bonus for a short period. To gain the benefit of the Well Rested perk, the characters will have to sleep for at least 7 hours. Additionally, this perk can be used in combination with the above-mentioned methods.

3. Take the Best Starting Perk

Among all the perks the game offers, one is the best to start the game with. That perk is called Lone Wanderer. Taking this perk will reduce the amount of damage your character takes, while also increasing their carrying capacity. Sadly, as the name of the perk suggests, the player needs to travel alone to gain the benefits. Fortunately for canine lovers everywhere, Dogmeat does not count toward this limitation and can be taken along.

4. Fallout 4 Rewards You for Hoarding

Unlike games like Skyrim where some items that players can collect are useless junk, in Fallout 4 everything can be scraped for building materials. This means that everything players have collected on their journey through the wastelands can be used. Of course, some items can bring you more than others, but even after collecting enough pencils, you may be able to craft wonders.

5. High Charisma stat is great in Fallout 4

Usually an overlooked stat, in Fallout 4 Charisma is one of the more useful stats. High charisma will open more dialogue options and new ways to complete quests, and passing a speech check will reward you with experience in the game. Moreover, high charisma plays a big part in the settlement-building part of the game. The higher the stat is, the more people will join your settlements, and the option to connect settlements depends on this stat.
