Fae Farm: How to Get Fodder and Why You Need It

Once you unlock the barn in Fae Farm, it’s obvious you’ll need some fodder as well to feed your barn animals. The problem is how you can get this fodder from your Homestead rather than having to buy it from the market. This has left some players in the community perplexed. Even though there are other diets for animals, fodder is the best option in the early game. This short guide should help you understand how to gather your fodder and progress your barn.

How to Get Fodder in Fae Farm

To get fodder, you need to let the grass grow on your homestead a bit. Once it’s long enough, simply cut it down to collect fodder for your farm animals. You can also try searching out and cutting wild grass that grows at random locations; however, that might not be very sustainable.

Getting fodder is as simple as cutting the grass. This is probably because farming is your main source of gameplay in the early game and helps new players progress smoothly. Having to buy different types of foods for your animals can seem expensive and difficult for players who don’t have a good economic setup.

You should note that while wild grass does grow on its own throughout Fae Farm, you’ll have to cultivate and grow normal grass yourself to get a constant supply of fodder. Otherwise, you’ll have to leave your animals to starve or find an alternative food supply.

Why is Fodder important?

While there are different types of foods you can feed to your animals, there are a few reasons we’d recommend fodder as the ideal diet. Firstly, animals that are fed good quality fodder also produce good quality products, i.e., eggs and milk. Secondly, feeding your animals a good diet regularly will increase the bond between you and your animals.

Having a good bond with your animal is important in Fae Farm because it factors into the products and daily activities of the barn animals.

Alternative Methods to Get Fodder

If you don’t want to keep your animals solely on a grass-fed diet, you can try out various fodder recipes in-game. One way is by cultivating different types of crops on your farm, including grains, vegetables, legumes, etc. You can use any method of growing crops, like crop rotation or intercropping.

If you are looking to grow crops, you should always check the compatibility of the soil as well as other crops you’ll be growing alongside each other. These can affect the outcome yield of your plantations. Keep in mind crops attract pests, another issue you’ll need to take care of by using pesticides.

Individualized Recipes for Fodder

Not all animals are the same, so their diet shouldn’t be either. When making fodder for your cattle, always look at what they enjoy and what nutrients they need. The more suited the fodder is to their needs, the better material output they’ll give. Sometimes, you can even vouch for hydroponic or aeroponically grown grains to test out some newer recipes.
