If you’re looking forward to the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2 this month, then you’re probably wondering if the game has multiplayer co-op. We have your answer here. Read on for everything you need to know about game modes ahead of launch.

The release date for Dragon’s Dogma 2 is fast approaching, and players are eager to create their Arisen. While Capcom hasn’t released a fully playable demo for the game, fans have gotten a taste of the extensive character creation tool that will be featured in the finished game at launch. This will allow you to create your own character as well as your designated Pawn, which will serve as your loyal companion throughout the game. Of course, you’ll need all the help you can get when it comes to taking on dragons. Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 have multiplayer co-op to lessen the burden? Here’s what we know.

  • A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
  • Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
  • Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
  • Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet
  • English (Playback Language)

Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 Have Multiplayer Co-op?

Unfortunately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not feature multiplayer co-op. Developer and publisher Capcom describes the game as a single-player experience, meaning you won’t have the option to travel alongside your real-life friends on your playthrough.

With that being said, this doesn’t mean you won’t have any help on your journey. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn system allows you to recruit AI companions designed by other players. This is done through the game’s online network, where you can recruit up to two Pawns made by other players in addition to the Pawn you created for your Arisen. In a roundabout way, this does give you a chance to work with friends and other players, though your Arisen companions themselves aren’t flesh and blood.

How Does the Pawn System Work in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The Pawn system has been seriously upgraded in Dragon’s Dogma 2, implementing major improvements with advanced AI. Coupled with the game’s extensive character creation tool, you won’t need to worry too much about your companions falling short of your expectations. In fact, Pawns even boast specializations, allowing them to lend their aid in a variety of tasks. However, you’ll need to watch out for the new dragonsplague, a disease that infects Pawns in mysterious ways.

Past features are also making a return to ensure Pawns make feasible stand-ins for other players. As such, they learn from you, and their behaviors can be molded to fit your playstyle and preferences.

At the end of the day, AI recruits may not fill the shoes of your friends. However, Capcom has worked to promise able companions to lend their aid throughout the game. For more on Dragon’s Dogma 2, check out these guides from our team:
