Does Jedi Survivor Have Ray Tracing?

Jedi Survivor, the highly anticipated game set in the Star Wars universe, has many Star Wars fans excited for its release. One of the questions that frequently arises is whether the game features ray tracing technology. In this article, we will explore whether Jedi Survivor includes ray tracing and how it enhances the visual experience.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that simulates the behavior of light as it acts in real life. It calculates the paths of individual light rays as they interact with objects in the virtual environment, resulting in more accurate reflections, shadows, and global illumination. By incorporating ray tracing into video games, developers can create stunning visuals with enhanced realism and immersive environments.

Will Star Wars Jedi Survivor Feature Ray Tracing?

Yes, Star Wars Jedi Survivor will feature Ray Tracing. In a recent interview with Starwars.com for the Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Stig Asmussen, head developer at Respawn, confirmed Ray Tracing was in the game.

When Starwars.com asked him about Ray Tracing, he had this to say; “I think it’s allowed us to really dial in, and get very, very quick results because it’s all real-time. It’s allowed us to dial in and author our lighting setups with a level of precision that we didn’t have in the past. You know, our lighting artists are great, but it’s limiting when you have a bake solution, where you set up lights, and you have to wait — sometimes several hours — to see the results, and then you fine-tune. And with ray tracing, that turnaround time is a whole lot faster, and the level of quality that we’re seeing is even better than we had in the past, as well. I think a year ago, we were still kind of sinking our teeth into it, trying to understand how to leverage it, and I’m really happy with the results and how our lighting team has pulled it off.”

So there you have it. Ray Tracing is coming to all versions of the game, but of course, this technology is hardware intensive. So expect frame drops, longer loading times, and of course, a larger download size! I’m thrilled to see how EA and Respawn incorporate Ray Tracing and improve the stunning world compared to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
