Do Valor Points Persist After Combat in Wartales?

A mercenary party in WarTales engaged in combat.

Valor points are the cornerstone of combat in WarTales. While every mercenary in your party moves and takes basic actions every turn, the truly impactful abilities cost Valor Points to use. Early in the game Valor Points are hard to generate, meaning you have to be very careful about how or when you use them.

To best maintain your Valor Points, you may question if there’s a way to save these points from battle to battle. This guide will answer questions about when Valor Points carry over, when they don’t, and what you can do to use them to their fullest.

Do You Keep Your Valor Points At the End of Combat in Wartales?

The answer is both yes and no, depending on how your Valor Points were generated.

Valor points generated from resting, eating, and other out-of-combat means will persist from battle to battle. You can tell if your Valor Points are this type in battle, as they show up as orange on the Valor Point bar. These Valor Points will be consumed last, so you don’t have to worry about using them if you have already used other means to generate Valor Points in combat.

Valor Points generated in combat do not persist from battle to battle. Valor Points of this type show up as yellow on the Valor Point Bar. These types of Valor points are generated through the character’s passives or certain in-combat abilities, usually, those related to mercenaries you have in leadership positions. These Valor Points are consumed first in battle.

What Are the Best Ways to Conserve Valor Points in Wartales?

If you’re looking to conserve Valor Points it’s recommended to take battles slowly. Wait until you have generated some Valor Points in combat before using abilities to guarantee that some will be left over after battle. If you manage to hold on to the orange Valor Points until your party’s next rest, the Valor Points gained from this rest will be added to the orange point total. If you’re gearing up for a big fight, consider resting multiple times to stockpile Valor, or make sure that your battles on the way only make use of temporary points.

With this strategy, you will be much more prepared for dangerous battles. If you’d like to stock up on points, you can always repeatedly rest at an Inn. This can be prohibitively expensive but is a good way to maximize your Valor Points before a long journey.
