Who is Zoltun Kulle in Diablo 4 Season 3?
The start of Diablo 4 Season 3 is just around the corner, bringing forth a new questline that involves a Loom built by Zoltun Kulle. To fully understand the importance of this reference, you’ll need a bit of background information when it comes to the technology’s creator, who is long dead in Season of the Construct. That is, unless Blizzard has found a way to bring this character back after his ghost appeared in Diablo 3.
In his heyday, Zoltun Kulle was a sorcerer of the Horadrim. His chief aim was to achieve immortality, a goal that led him to be corrupted. Kulle managed to uncover the secret to eternal life, though this feat ultimately came at the cost of his own. Having turned against his order, the Horadrim dismembered Kulle and scattered the severed parts of his body throughout different locations.
Although this was done to prevent his return, his spirit was conjured in an effort to obtain information in Diablo 3. As a result, a deal was made to resurrect the deceased sorcerer’s body, and in exchange, Kulle promised not to revert to his former path.
Of course, the undead tyrant broke his promise and attempted to seek revenge on the Horadrim. In the end, the Nephalem destroyed Kulle’s body once again, and he returned to his spirit form. Given a new life outside of a body, he reluctantly went on to aid the player in various pursuits.
With Kulle’s history in mind, his return beyond the discovery of the Loom is certainly feasible. That said, we can’t say for sure whether Kulle will play a significant role until Diablo 4 Season 3 drops next week.
