The Lunar event has begun in Sanctuary. Here is everything you need to know about the Lunar Awakening event and Lunar Shrines in Diablo 4. Read on.
Seasonal events are a staple of MMOs. February is usually reserved for the Lunar New Year-themed events, and this year is no different. Without further ado, let’s see all the improvements and new content in the Lunar Awakening event in Diablo 4.
Lunar Awakening Event in Diablo 4
Lunar Awakening events started on February 06 and will last until February 20. It is important to note that this event works in both Seasonal and Eternal Realms. To start off the event, you first have to go to Ked Bardu, the capital of Dry Steppes, and talk to Ying-Yue, a new NPC that just appeared. Now you will get a new reward track called Ancestral Favor. To raise your Ancestral Favour, and get the rewards, you need to defeat monsters while under the effect of the new Lunar Shrines.
Lunar Shrines
Lunar Shrines are spread all over Sanctuary, just like regular Shrines. These Shrines give you the following buffs:
- +50% XP per Monster Kill
- +30% Movement Speed
- Ancestral Favor Event Reputation per Monster Kill
- A unique power bonus, based on the Shrine type
Each different Shrine type gets a unique power bonus, in addition to its regular effect. The bonuses for each Shrine are:
- Artillery Shrine – Casts have a chance to summon a holy bomb.
- Blast Wave Shrine – You periodically pulse explosions, but, each explosion summons cluster bombs all over the place.
- Channeling Shrine– Increased attack speed and a chance to reset cooldowns.
- Conduit Shrine – Summons frequent and more powerful shocking strikes.
- Greed Shrine – Chance to summon a Treasure Goblin. While the Shrine is active, 25 kills summons a Treasure Goblin, and 50 kills summons a second.
- Lethal Shrine – Chance to instantly execute a struck monster, causing Fear on surrounding monsters (excluding Bosses and other Players).
- Protection Shrine – You reflect all incoming damage for the duration of the buff. Damage reflected scales with Level and World Tier.
There are also Lunar Whispers that guarantee a Lunar Shrine and are a great way of earning some Ancestral Favor Reputation.

Nightmare Dungeon and Vault New Affix
During the Lunar Awakening, newly crafted Nightmare Dungeon or Nightmare Vault Sigils have a chance to roll a new seasonal affix. This is called Ancestors’ Favor, and it guarantees at least three Lunar Shrines in the Dungeon, as well as +10% Glyph XP. These affixes remain after the event ends, so you can stock up on them and use them later.
