Diablo 4 Duplication Glitch – Does it still hold up?

Diablo 4 Duplication Glitch

The duplication glitch was once a particularly convenient technical issue in Diablo 4, but is it still viable today? Stick around for details regarding this exploitative glitch and its current applications.

Since its wildly successful launch back in June, Diablo 4 has gained and maintained a dedicated online player base. Now in its second season, the fourth mainline installment to the series has seen a long list of content changes, most of which are greatly appreciated by longtime fans. That said, the Season of Blood has brought with it a few bittersweet tweaks to the game. Developer and publisher Blizzard has taken action to fix a few withstanding bugs, even temporarily disabling crossplay in the process. Many players have hoped the infamous duplication glitch might be left untouched, but Blizzard has other plans.

Does the Duplication Glitch Still Work in Diablo 4?

At the time of writing, the glitch that once allowed you to collect an endless supply of gold and other items via trading is no longer working. Following actions taken by Blizzard, player trading is suspended until further notice, halting exploitation of the glitch. This was outlined by a community manager in a general discussion forum on Blizzard’s website, though no updates have been provided since the post was made on Sunday, October 22.

In the meantime, any accounts that attempt to duplicate gold and other items will be held accountable per Blizzard’s End User License Agreement. We would advise players to avoid partaking in these exploits, or else risk account penalties. Developers will continue to monitor player trading once the feature is reinstated down the line.

How Does the Duplication Glitch Work in Diablo 4?

While player trading was active in Diablo 4, there was a way to create endless dupes of gold and other items through the trade process. In a big way, this trashed the in-game economy. While many within the player base were happy to accrue billions in gold, surpassing the currency cap on such a large scale prompted Blizzard to take action against these exploits.

How did so many players manage to rack up so much cash? Well, the glitch was fairly simple to use. Once two players initiated a trade, one would drag the desired items into the trade window. Typically, these items sold for high prices. The trader would then disconnect from the game, allowing the active player to accept the offer and collect their goods. When the trader logged back in, however, their previously traded items would remain. This could be repeated at will, allowing thousands to exploit the glitch and gain remarkable sums of gold by selling valuable items.

Understandably, Blizzard hopes to put an end to this glitch while player trading is suspended. For now, we will need to await developer updates on the progress that’s been made.
