The Latest Patch Brought Some Big Balancing Changes to Abilities in Destiny 2

Destiny recently turned 10 years old, and the developers promised an exciting upcoming period to mark this giant milestone. On September 10, the devs posted extensive notes on the update, featuring all of the changes. One category piqued the players’ interest. Destiny 2 community had lots to say about the balancing decisions the devs made for Abilities in the new patch.

Balancing Abilities Is a Huge Part of the Patch

There haven’t been many changes to Abilities, but some of them might have a big effect on the gameplay. As per usual, Hunters received some buffs and nerfs, this time the Threaded Specter and the Snare Bomb were affected.

For the Threaded Specter, the patch notes stated: “Increased cooldown duration of Marksman Dodge and Gambler’s Dodge when Threaded Specter is equipped. Removed dodge cooldown penalty after creating clone. If the clone is destroyed by attacks, it no longer spawns Threadlings. Increased the amount of time the clone will distract nearby combatants before exploding”.

The Snare Bomb received a similar makeover. The time the Smoke Bomb projectile lingers in the world was reduced from 10 seconds to 3.5 seconds. But, it’s not all bad news, the player movement speed penalty imparted by the smoke was also reduced, by 25%.

As for the Titans, the devs applied just one fix. The notes stated: “Fixed an issue where some players had the Twilight Arsenal Super unlocked for Prismatic, but not their Void subclass”.

Additionally, the base cooldown duration for the Swarm Grenade was reduced by 15%. Also, the Swarm Grenade was moved to a slower recharge tier for non-passive grenade-energy gains.

Destiny 2 Players Are United in Their Request

Most of the Destiny 2 players had the same reaction upon seeing the balancing decisions made for Abilities in the patch notes. This request has been repeated over and over again, so it isn’t surprising the players bought it up yet again. Awestin11 insisted: “Say it with me y’all… SEPARATE PVE AND PVP SANDBOXES. ALSO STANDARD SUBCLASSES SHOULD NOT BE CATCHING STRAYS BECAUSE OF PRISMATIC”.

KYPspikes added: “Still going to see most Hunters use Prismatic because the nerfs aren’t just Prismatic. It’s nerfing Void, Strand, and Solar, too. Why would I consider using the other Subclasses over Prismatic when they’re indirectly catching the same nerfs as well? Separate PvP from PvE nerfs and separate Prismatic nerfs from the other Subclasses”.

BlackCaesar stated: “Really not happy to see them hitting PvE functionality with PvP nerfs again, but it’s what we should expect at this point. Genuinely think they should start having PvP scalers and reduce those instead of cooldowns or functionality, since those have negative repercussions in PvE”.

Obviously, there is a history of PvP changes affecting PvE, so, at the time of writing this article, we can safely say that the community’s biggest ask is for devs to separately balance PvP and PvE. Knowing how devoted the players are, and how this game has had huge impacts on their lives, we sincerely hope the devs will grant their wish.
