Destiny 2 Is Back Online As Bungie Continues Investigating an Increase in Errors

On October 16, just after 2 pm CEST, Destiny 2 developers announced that the game would be offline until they solved why it was experiencing an increase in errors. This comes after several announcements stating that the devs were working on fixing that same problem. A little more than half an hour later, Destiny 2 is back online, but the problems persist.

Why Did Destiny 2 Go Offline?

The Bungie Help account on X (formerly Twitter) announced that the game was back online. They stated: “Destiny 2 is being brought back online. Background maintenance is ongoing. As we continue to investigate ongoing issues, Destiny 2 integration features on http://Bungie.net will remain offline, including the API. Standby for updates”.

Previously, the Bungie Help account explained why they had to take Destiny 2 offline in the first place. The announcement read: “DESTINY 2 MAINTENANCE. Destiny 2 is being brought offline for emergency maintenance as we investigate an increase in BAT and WEASEL errors. An update will be provided within 1 hour”.

Once the Game Was Back Online, Some Players Experienced Issues

While the majority of players joked that the game being taken offline on their day off was a conspiracy, others had bigger issues. Once the game was back online, some Destiny 2 players returned to the game only to find a trial version.

TLC Reaper noted: “I launched the game and it put me in the trial mode of Destiny like huh“. Another player, 9V, added: “Glad I’m not the only one in Trial mode, with all my DLCs taken away”.

Sure enough, they weren’t the only ones. Dominik Tilgner wondered: “WHY THE F**K all my DLCs are gone? And I’m minus 10k Silver”. Other players had similar problems, some lost as muck as 39k Silver. BlackPhantom703 complained: “Why is my titan stuck in “trial mode” but my other guardians are not? I’m also stuck to change emblem, it’s locked”.

Lead by these experiences, some players decided not to risk it. One of them noted: “Nah I ain’t risking it and lose my things. I’ll wait for Bungie to really fix the game not starting and the crashes that keep happening for a week”.

That’s actually solid advice. We’re sure that the devs wouldn’t let you actually lose all your items, but going through that entire process of having them returned might be extremely annoying. So, maybe hold off for a while, the devs are bound to fix everything soon.
