For a while now some players have been suggesting that the devs tip the scales against them. However, the Destiny 2 developers addressed this issue and clarified once again that they use proper RNG for Legendary weapon perks. So, what exactly is going on?
Destiny 2 Devs Offer an Explanation
After going through another wave of accusations, the devs took to X to explain their system. The official X account named Destiny 2 Team shared: “Hey all, we had a conversation with our Sandbox folks this morning about this. There is no perk weighting active for any legendary weapon perks in Destiny 2. We have added perk attunement for Exotic Class Items in a recent update, but that’s a different system”.
The majority of players were thankful for this message, as it resolved their doubts. However, some players were still doubtful. Bumpanalog noted: “I don’t believe them. It may not be intentional but doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Bungie has been caught saying one thing and doing another thing way too many times now for me to believe them at this point”.
Another player, LoneCentaur95, added: “Yes, Bungie says perks are random. But the perk combination that is universally considered the best roll currently makes up fewer of the weapons people kept than rime stealer plus chain reaction”.
Is it Proper RNG, or Something Else?
Well, other Destiny 2 players insisted that was just how proper RNG worked. SpidudeToo explained: “People have a hard time understanding real RNG because nearly every instance of RNG they interact with on a daily basis isn’t true RNG. True RNG gets you 5 of the same gun with the same roll, or every gun except the one you want for a month. It’s random. It only becomes equal distribution over millions of tries, not a few dozen or hundreds”.
Even one of the former Bungie crew decided to chirp in. Diana Madeline Voyer stated: “There’s no mechanism in the code of the engine to weight perk drops on a weapon. Items can be weighted iirc, but the individual perks can’t be”.
Truth be told, that’s enough proof for us. We know that Bungie has been through some controversy several times before, therefore some players have trouble trusting them. However, there is no real proof that’s the case now. So, we’re off to Vesper Station, hope we’ll see you there. Enjoy the game.
