On October 22, the latest update (Update 8.1.0.2) dropped. As exciting as every update is, many players were kind of disappointed with this one, as it didn’t even mention one huge issue. However, mere hours after they dropped the update, Destiny 2 developers discovered the missing patch note regarding the ignition damage versus the bosses, the issue in question.
A New Patch Note Explains What’s Going on With Ignition Damage
The official Destiny 2 Team account shared some more information about the issue, what would be changed, and most importantly what was the ETA for the fix. The announcement read: “We have discovered a missed patch note for Destiny 2 Update 8.1.0 regarding ignition damage versus bosses. After an initial ignition, bosses now gain progressively higher damage resistance to ignitions that occur over a short amount of time (five seconds of DR from last ignition to take place)”.
The devs continued: “We have identified an issue where these subsequent ignitions are doing far less damage than intended. We are planning to tune this damage resistance appropriately, and for it to only apply to the Vesper’s Host dungeon boss Raneiks Unified, rather than it being game-wide. We are planning to address these issues in Update 8.1.5, planned for mid-November. Please stay tuned for more details”.
This post provided answers to quite a few questions. First of all, the good news is that the devs didn’t mean to apply the change to all the bosses. This fact alone calmed down many players. As for the fix ETA, well, good things are worth waiting for.
Destiny 2 Players Have Some Valid Concerns
As you may have expected, Destiny 2 players were quite unsure of how they felt about the patch note about the ignition damage. Even though many players had a positive reaction, some weren’t happy with the ETA. Titan Skate noted: “Step in the right direction, but this NEEDS to happen faster and for it to be completely reverted, rather than partially”.
Also, several players questioned some of the developers’ balancing decisions. Techman- said: “Even if this is intentional, I think this is still terrible. We finally have a boss in the game where the area of effect damage is king, and popular methods are being preemptively nerfed. This should not be a thing at all, ideally”.
Furthermore, many players questioned the “missed” patch. One player, Xelopheris, stated: “Ah yes, trying to sneak in a nerf and then having to deal with the bad PR is definitely worth it instead of just posting it in the notes in the first place”.
Recently, Bungie has faced quite a few controversies, so, they might have lost some trust with the players. However, the majority of players remain hopeful that things will start to look up. After all, mid-November isn’t that far away, and the fix will be major. If you need to, you can always take a break and return once the fix is live. Your community will gladly welcome you back, and Vesper Station is here to stay.
