Could Having a Bad Internet Connection Get You Banned From Destiny 2?

There are some things that we can’t control in life. One of those things is the quality of our internet connection. Some parts of the world just don’t have great internet providers and therefore some players experience connectivity issues. Unfortunately, most of the games nowadays, including Destiny 2, require a stable internet connection, and in some cases not having it might get you banned.

Should You Worry You’ll Get Banned Because of an Unstable Internet Connection?

One player, Electronic_Log6688, shared their concerns with the Destiny 2 community. They noted: “Am I going to get banned for having a bad connection? I was playing Trials yesterday and this guy messaged me about lag switching. Like, bro, I’m not even that good I’m just trying to go flawless this week and I’m assuming he reported me”.

Even though they tried fixing their connection, this player went on to explain how they received an in-game message. The message read: “Warning! This account has a consistently unstable internet connection that is affecting other players. If this continues, the account may be restricted from matchmaking against other players”.

As you might have guessed already, the OP was quite concerned that this message might be an introduction to more issues. How long would they be restricted from participating? Could a restriction lead to a permanent ban if the problems persisted? Thankfully, the community was there to help.

The Destiny 2 Community Stands by the Concerned Player

The Destiny 2 community gathered to try and console the player worried about getting banned over a bad internet connection. In fact, some community members have gone through similar issues and were able to calm down to upset OP. Additionally, they shared their stories.

One Redditor, pokemonsunisbest, stated: “You can get suspended from PvP for consistent lag. I doubt you’ll actually get your account banned. I’m pretty sure Bungie can see the difference in network manipulation and an overall bad connection”.

Another player, 24beau24, shared: “I had bad internet for a very long time, less than 10 mbit and packet loss. And it’s 2 months at the longest, once you’ve reached that length any ban after is also 2 months. I had at least 4-5 of those long bans before fiber was available in my area, now I have no issue”.

It’s good to know that if you have a less-than-perfect internet connection you won’t get permanently banned from Destiny 2. The annoying thing is that you might get suspended, and as of now, there is nothing to be done regarding that issue. We’d only suggest you test your connection before starting a game, just to be safe. Either way, the community will offer you support. Enjoy!
