Female Characters Might Have Better Chances to Survive in Dead by Daylight

How do you choose who you’ll play? When you open the game, do you go straight for that one character, or do you like browsing? Does the gender of your character matter in any way? Well, one devoted player seemingly proved that if you pick a female character you might be more likely to survive in Dead by Daylight.

A Dead by Daylight Player Ranked the Chrachaters by How Often They Survive

One very devoted player, halcyondays93, collected the data on all survivors for exactly two months, with the idea to see if there were any survivors luckier than the others. This player noted: “I only counted survivors I saw in solo queue, so all SWF matches were omitted. The results were skewed slightly because Lara had only been released 2 weeks before I began keeping track, but she remains fairly common to this day”.

This player made a graph with the results. You can see that Lara is definitely in the first place, which can be explained by her being recently added. However, that doesn’t explain why female characters occupy the first 10 places. The OP added: “Female survivors are outnumbering male survivors almost 3 to 1”.

Many players pointed out that Sable should probably occupy the first place. HerrWorfsen stated: “OP tracked for 2 months and stated it was just after the release of Tomb Raider, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the results are a bit biased towards Lara and in the long term Sable will be number one”.

This player explained why other female characters weren’t as popular. They said: “I would like to play Elodie and Jane more, but every cool cosmetic will be either for Sable or Feng Min, It’s even worse with licensed characters”.

Why Do Players Prefer Female Characters?

Devoted Dead by Daylight players shared their reasons for thinking a female character was more likely to survive, and also the reasons why they picked them. If you think about it, it’s quite obvious.

Kyte_115 explained: “Female survivors being more popular makes sense. A smaller model so more visibility on screen. Same reason you very rarely see male skins in games like Fortnite. Unless the male skin either blends with the environment well or they make less sound”.

Aside from that, female characters are usually physically smaller and slimmer and, therefore harder to detect. Aoora added: “Females, traditionally, overwhelmingly prefer to play female characters. Males are a little more 50/50. They are known to play female characters in games because they play what they want to look at”.

So, the next time you play Dead by Daylight, think about your choices and what impacts them. Or, simply pick Sable, as we know she’s great at surviving. We’ll stick with Lara for a while longer! See you out there, maybe when the 2v8 mode returns. Enjoy the game
