Rigged Algorithm or Bad Luck? Black Ops 6 Players Distrust Matchmaking

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Reveal Fast Forward

Black Ops 6 received glowing reviews at launch. However, ever since then, the problems seem to be piling on, one after another. Some players experienced issues with the servers, many complained about hit reg, and almost all had complaints about the maps. The devs addressed the last issue by announcing the addition of Nuketown, and it calmed the players down for a while. Unfortunately, a new issue took the spotlight. Many Black Ops 6 players are deeply unsatisfied with Matchmaking, and they blame the algorithm for their woes.

What’s Wrong With the Matchmaking Algorithm?

You are probably aware that Black Ops 6 uses SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking). The whole idea behind it is to pair players with others who have a similar skill level so that no one has an advantage/disadvantage. Historically speaking, before SBMM, many lower-level players used to quit because they were matched with much better players consistently.

However, even though SBMM solved this problem, some Black Ops 6 players claim that this system might be rigged. One player, Gnarkillo, noted: “This is the most rigged the algorithm has ever felt. They really have nailed this system”.

This player went on to explain what made them come to this conclusion. First of all, they noticed how the Matchmaking felt “tailored”, and reportedly it was quite easy to conclude how the system worked even after just a couple of games.

The OP recalled: “I’ll have two easy games thinking I’m about to have a winning streak going, and then my team will get absolutely slapped. Then maybe after another two losses, just before I feel like quitting, I’ll get an easy lobby and my dopamine levels boost again. Rinse and repeat. It’s a cycle. It’s near impossible in this game to have a high W/L”.

Black Ops 6 Players Share Their Opinions

As you may have expected, many Black Ops 6 players confirmed they felt the same way about the Matchmaking algorithm. They gladly shared what made this system feel unnatural and forced.

One player, epicredditdude1, explained: “I think the worst part about such tuned SBMM is it reminds you that your performance in a game is an exercise in statistics. And it can be fed into an algorithm that can deliver predictable results. It just doesn’t really make you feel like anything is earned or lost”.

ShadowCVL added: “I’m not complaining that SBMM exists. I just wish it was tuned so that we were playing on close to equal footing. If I’m skill 400 out of 1000 put me in games with a max of 500 and a min of 300”.

If we are being honest, we noticed this pattern of winning a couple, then losing a couple of matches. At first it feels like the game is well-balanced, after all, you are playing with the similarly-skilled players. However, after a while, this becomes repetitive and it can feel annoying. Of course, as with any other new game, it might take a while for the devs to hit the right spot. So, be patient and try to enjoy the game as is. We’re sure the devs will make some changes soon.
