Barcus is a gnome you love to hate. But if you want to have this most ungrateful creature as a guest during the Tiefling party, here’s how to have Barcus join the celebrations in Baldur’s Gate 3.
During the first Act of BG3, you can find and save a peculiar Deep Gnome named Barcus. Over the course of the game, you’ll find yourself questioning that decision, as Barcus proves to be more irritating than anything else. However, suppose you are one of those who love to explore every option in the game (and thankfully, Larian is not lacking in that department). In that case, there is a special (or some would say “secret”) cutscene if you manage to get Barcus to your camp before the Tiefling celebration party in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Have a Dialogue With Barcus at the Tiefling Party in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The usual playthrough goes like this. You find and rescue Barcus, defeat the goblins, have a victory celebration party with the Tieflings, and go down to the Underdark where you meet Barcus once more and rescue some Deep Gnomes from Duergar. But, if you finish these quests the other way around, you can have some unexpected guests at the party.
To have Barcus and the other Deep Gnomes during the Tiefling celebration party, you have to rescue them before dealing with the Goblins. That means you have to get to the Underdark and Grymforge before storming the Goblin camp.
Goblin camp is arguably the most popular entrance to the Underdark, so you’ll have to rely on side entrances. You can find one via the chasm in Phase Spider Matriarch’s lair (remember to cast Feather Fall before jumping down), in Auntie Ethel’s boss fight room (also down the chasm, so, you know, Feather Fall), and via the elevator in the Zentharim Hideout, in Waukeen Rest.
Once down, head to Grymforge and complete the “Save the Grymforge Gnomes” quest. Try saving all the Gnomes, but especially Barcus. Remember that Meerna is pre-programmed to die so don’t bother with that (even though there is a sneaky way to save her as well).
When you save all the Gnomes, you can invite Barcus to join your camp. Then, go back to the surface and proceed with clearing the Goblin camp and defeating their leaders, after which the Tiefling will organize a party to celebrate your victory. Only this time, Barcus will be present as well.
As expected, he’ll have some partybreaker comments, but, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of fireworks (video courtesy of Zay on YouTube).
This is nothing extraordinary, but it is always amazing to see that Larian really tried to cover every possible option and outcome. Now, about Meerna…
