Baldur’s Gate 3 community loves one popular mod over all the others

Baldur’s Gate 3 Companions

Among a plethora of mods released by the community since the launch of BG3, one has stood out as easily the most popular. Even counting all the aesthetic, dice, and UI mods that players love, the Party Limit mod has been topping the charts since it first appeared. That’s right, this mod has been around even before the official modding support, but with the transition to Larian’s mod manager, it has reached new heights of esteem among players.

The mod’s appeal is not in making combat easier, but in the interaction opportunites

That statement is the crux around the mod’s amazing appeal to the community. Being able to bring your whole camp along for the banter and interactions is something the players wanted most of all. Having to pick just four companions (well, three plus Tav) has been a mind-wracking limit for many. As UsernameLaugh puts it: “This feels so cool to run around with every companion. So much dialogue and interaction. It’s my fav mod!” Lohengrin381 adds: “I’ve had it for a while now and similarly love the sense that the ‘gang’s all here’. Great banter and no need to keep anyone on the ‘bench’. Yes, it seriously lowers the difficulty level, but it is enormous fun.”

Speaking of difficulty, there are also several mods that let you ramp it up if you’re worried about game balance. Mods like Tactician+ and others can be added if you feel that the expanded party limit is making the game too trivial. However, there are a few battles that really benefit from this mod.

No party limit makes act culminations more epic

Another Redditor who goes by iWentRogue brings up a great point about Party Limit mod in their thread. “I personally prefer sticking to the vanilla max 4 companions as it feels good for combat. But in these 3 battles – Goblin Camp, Moonrise Towers and The Netherbrain – this is where this mod becomes the most essential for me. Story-wise, it never made sense to me that you could not bring every able body available in camp to help out in these big Act-ending battles, especially against the Brain. This mods makes these 3 events feel like a war – and that feels amazing.”

They have a point and many agree with the statement – it never felt right, especially at the game’s climax, that some companions were ‘stuck in camp’. The world is ending, but they just can’t handle a crowd? “The fact that you can summon a whole bunch of allies to the final battle while most of your companions just sit around doing nothing is a little odd.”, commented OneAngryDuck to cement the point.

If you haven’t tried out the Party Limit mod, we strongly encourage you to give it a shot in your next playthrough. It pairs well with many other mods and can make for a unique experience alongside all of your chosen companions. Moreover, it’s available for both PC and console players now, so there’s no reason not to give it a shot.
