Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is finally set to arrive this December, just in time for the holiday season. The new title takes fans of the franchise to the world of Pandora, where they’ll take on the role of a Na’vi warrior who has returned to the land. Bolstered by Ubisoft’s in-house Snowdrop engine, the fantastical realm of Pandora is brimming with life and color at every corner across compatible platforms.
That said, the development team has taken great care to remain true to the acclaimed film series brought to life by director James Cameron. - Master multiple combat styles. Fight off the dangers of Pandora as you embrace the precision of traditional Na’vi weapons, including your bow and spear-thrower, or leverage your human training with more destructive weapons, such as an assault rifle or a shotgun.
Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on Xbox Series X|S?
Frontiers of Pandora will be available to play across Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC this December. You can currently place your pre-order for the standard, Gold, and Ultimate editions of the game through Xbox and other major retailers to participate at launch.
The game’s current-gen exclusivity promises high-quality graphics with ray tracing at 60 FPS. Ubisoft Massive has worked to optimize gameplay as a means to deliver all the best elements that the world of Pandora has to offer, in keeping with the integrity of the franchise. Fans of the film series will appreciate this attention to detail when Frontiers of Pandora launches this week.
Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Coming to Xbox One?
The short answer is no, Frontiers of Pandora will not be released on Xbox One. However, this doesn’t come as a surprise, as Ubisoft Massive made the executive decision not to launch the new title on last-gen systems, including Xbox One and PS4.
Several members of the development team explained this decision in an interview with IGN, wherein great importance was placed on the tech behind the making of the game. According to Creative Director Magnus Jansén and Technical Director of Programming Nikolay Stefanov, Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine will work in tandem with new hardware to provide a lifelike, immersive experience in the world of Pandora that would not have been achievable on last-gen consoles.
“Technology is everything — it’s what allows us to realize our dreams as designers. it’s what allows us to tell our stories, and to create the immersion and the escapism that we want. It’s not just about escapism — it’s about danger as well because Pandora is a beautiful place, but it’s also a dangerous place. So, the wildlife, the AI, the way that they track you, the way that they attack you, the advances in technology and the way that we are taking advantage of the power with our in-house Snowdrop engine is allowing us to do amazing things that would not be possible [otherwise].”

Despite some inevitable disappointment from franchise fans, this decision was made with the integrity of the world in mind. As such, Frontiers of Pandora is set to deliver a first-person gameplay experience that mirrors the wonder at the forefront of the film series.
