Can You Play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PlayStation?

Na'vi warrior fights off monsters in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Wondering if you can play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PlayStation consoles? We’ve got you covered. We’ll go over all the details about Ubisoft’s new title across available platforms.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is primed to launch tomorrow, December 7. In the new title, you’ll take on the role of a Na’vi warrior who has returned to the Western Frontier of Pandora, all within a first-person setting. As you explore the open world, you’ll forge a bond with your mount, relearn the ways of the Na’vi, and master all forms of combat to protect the land from encroaching armies.

Gameplay is bolstered by top-notch graphics, which will be optimized across current-gen systems. This includes PC, Xbox, and even an Amazon Luna release — but will the game be available to play on PlayStation? Here’s everything you need to know about Frontiers of Pandora compatibility with PS5 and PS4 consoles.

Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PS5?

Frontiers of Pandora will receive a PlayStation 5 release alongside Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. The current-gen exclusive title from Ubisoft will be available to play tomorrow, December 7.

If you haven’t yet placed your order for the game, the standard, Gold, and Ultimate editions of the new title are currently available for pre-purchase through PlayStation. Those with an active PS Plus subscription will also be able to take part in online play with up to two players upon release.

Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Coming to PS4?

Unfortunately, Frontiers of Pandora will not receive a PlayStation 4 release. Developers at Ubisoft Massive have spoken at length regarding the decision not to release the game on last-gen systems — and we have to agree that this was the right call.

In an interview with IGN, Magnus Jansén, the Creative Director of the game, and Nikolay Stefanov, the Technical Director of Programming cited the hardware as a particular concern that led to the team’s consensus.

“[New consoles] allowed us to have much better object detail up close to you, but also — when you’re flying high up in the air — to have a lovely vista and far-distance rendering, where we can even use the ray tracing to do shadows super far away, you know, three or four kilometers away from you.”

Nikolay Stefanov, Technical Director of Programming

The open-world game based on the film series from director James Cameron will feature fan-favorite details, such as soaring on the back of your mount and interacting with enemies and other creatures of Pandora. Gameplay elements like this would not have been possible across last-gen platforms, according to developers. As such, Frontiers of Pandora will retain the integrity of the films, delivering the same sense of wonder that made the franchise an international phenomenon.
