Is Assassin’s Creed: Mirage Worth it?
Among players, the consensus seems to be that AC Mirage is worth it for those who love the series, though not so much for newcomers or casual players. The game tells the origin story of Basim, a hero-turned-villain first introduced in Valhalla. On a series of missions, you’ll follow Basim across Baghdad, which is notably well-designed.
Despite his rich backstory, however, many within the AC player base have found Loki’s reincarnation to be a less than interesting protagonist. That said, Mirage seems to be best suited for fans of the character, first and foremost.
Aside from its main character, Mirage’s mechanics have received a fair bit of criticism. This mostly has to do with the parkour feature which, for the most part, accomplishes what it’s supposed to do. However, many players have noted that Basim will sometimes launch himself off a ledge or otherwise barrel into places you’d rather not go. Needless to say, this mechanic and simple combat controls are a minor annoyance among fans, both new and old.
AC Mirage Pros and Cons
Pros
- Rich and compelling storyline
- Visually stunning in-game world
Cons
- You have to like Basim to get into the story
- Parkour mechanic can get a bit wonky
All things considered, AC Mirage is a sound installment to the franchise — as long as you’re a fan of Basim and the ongoing storyline. At just $50 for the Standard Edition, those who are interested in Basim and his role in the franchise will find that AC Mirage is worth their time.
