Wondering how to get an axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? We’ve got you covered. We’ll go over what you can do to get the crafting recipe for this tool and what materials you’ll need.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, your tools are essential to complete daily tasks and accomplish major feats, like installing bridges and other fixtures on your island. However, you’ll also need to craft each of your own tools by hand, including an Axe. Once you have one, you can gather the materials you need to make the remaining tools and start crafting other items, from furniture to wands and more. Fortunately, putting an Axe together isn’t too difficult, even early on. Here’s how to get an Axe in New Horizons and what materials you’ll need to make one.

There are a few ways you can get an Axe in New Horizons. Early on, you’ll only have access to the crafting recipe for a Flimsy Axe, but you’ll soon be able to purchase recipes for higher-quality tools and ready-made tools, to boot.

A standard Axe is the most durable, but it’ll set you back 2,500 Bells to buy one from Nook’s Cranny. It’ll last you much longer than a Flimsy or Stone Axe, but it’s not the most cost-effective option in the early stages of the game. Because of this, I recommend starting off with crafting your own tools.

With the crafting recipe on hand, you can make yourself an Axe at a workbench using the following materials in New Horizons:

  • x1 Flimsy Axe
  • x3 Wood
  • x1 Iron Nugget

Of course, you’ll first need to craft lesser-grade tools before you can make a standard Axe. This will require common materials like wooden sticks and stones. You’ll find these resources lying about the landscape all over town, so you’ll have no problem collecting what you need. That said, low-quality tools will break often, so be sure to upgrade when you have the chance.
