All Destiny 2 Lightfall Crucible Changes Coming in Season 20

Destiny 2’s PvP mode, Crucible, has been in a rough spot for some time now. Bungie has uploaded a massive blog post detailing changes across the PvP board to resolve this issue and quell the unrest. These include things that have already gone live and those coming later in Seasons 20 and 21.

  • Updates to map and game mode weights
    • Increased the likelihood of getting Control over Clash as the game mode.

      • Wormhaven
    • Standard Map Weight
      • Endless Vale
      • Altar of Flame
      • Distant Shore
      • The Fortress
      • Pacifica

  • Clash is leaving Quickplay
    • Quickplay will consist only of Control; thus, the name will revert to Control.
  • Connection-based Matchmaking (CBMM) Crucible Rotator
    • Loose SBMM is having its skill and connection filters modified. Latency windows will be expanded at the slowest rate, while skill windows will start tighter but can expand as needed.
    • Rotator will consist of two playlists that rotate weekly.
      • Crucible Relentless Rotator: Clash, Rift, and Zone Control
      • Crucible Party Rotator: Mayhem, Scorched, Momentum Control

What Matchmaking Changes Are Coming to Destiny 2 Lightfall Crucible?

  • Fireteam Matchmaking (FTMM) replacing Freelance
  • Upcoming FTMM adjustments
    • Adjustments are being made to group like-sized fireteams against one another. The goal is to improve matchmaking without sacrificing the quality of matches.
  • Changes coming to Loose Skill-based Matchmaking (SBMM)

    • Several “twists” have been teased to make the mode more approachable to solo players.

    • Trials Labs have been scheduled for Season 20.

    • Updates to passages including Wealth and Mercy.
    • Changes to the gilded Flawless title requirements.
