Studio Innersloth’s multiplayer survival game, Among Us, rose to immense popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Being locked inside for around a year, there were not many people could do in terms of spending time with the ones closest to them.
The gameplay design, putting four to fifteen players together in a location somewhere in outer space, with a few being imposters and others having no clue of who in their party is the imposter(s), Among Us, was the perfect game to delve hours into with your friends or family.
In Among Us, players get to be one of seven (including the imposter) characters with specific tasks that they have to complete under a time restriction while the imposter hunts them down. In this guide, we are going to cover all the Among Us characters.
Among Us – Roles Explained
Among Us features a unique character design that is now massive in pop culture. Every character follows this design. Below are all the Among Us characters alongside their specific tasks.
Imposter
An imposter is arguably the most fun character in Among Us. You get to play as a master of deception as you lie to your crewmates about your identity and wait for the perfect opportunity to sneak up on, and eventually, kill them. Imposters have access to everything all other characters can do, aiding them in their deception.

Crewmate
Crewmates are the most basic characters in Among Us. All you have to do here perform basic tasks as you try to figure out who the imposter is. Crewmates do get to aid their team more by sticking around which reduces the chances an imposter has of murdering someone.
Engineers
Engineers are basically crewmates with different tasks. The only difference is that engineers have access to the venting ability, which can be crucial. The ability to hide in plain sight can allow one to sneakily discover who the imposter is.
Ghosts
Ghosts cannot do much in Among Us. Becoming one early on, however, can certainly be very amusing. Upon being killed or wrongfully voted out, a crewmate becomes a ghost. A ghost can only interact with other ghosts and cannot vote but they can still help their crew around with the tasks. What makes ghosts fun Among us characters is that they are aware of who the imposter is and get to see their team make right (or wrong) decisions towards figuring out who is sus. This can be plenty entertaining.

Guardian Angel
Guardian angels are ghosts but with the ability to protect crewmates. The first person to become a ghost in Among Us becomes a guardian angel. Here you get to wander around like a ghost but you can give your crewmates a shield that protects them from imposters for a while
Shapeshifter
The final, and perhaps most entertaining Among Us character is the shapeshifter. This character is an imposter with the ability to turn into any crewmate temporarily. This can lead to a lot of havoc in the game, for the confusion and chaos spread by being killed by an imposter disguised as a crewmate can lead to an immense amount of confusion. A smart shapeshifter will almost always mean victory for the imposter side.
