Alan works on his story at a desk in Alan Wake 2

Wondering what carries over when you start Alan Wake 2: The Final Draft? You’re not alone. We’ve covered everything you need to know before you begin the New Game Plus mode recently added to the game.

Alan Wake 2 was first released back in October of this year, following both Alan Wake and Saga Anderson on a dual storyline. Almost two months after its release, players can now see the horror-survival story extended with the addition of New Game Plus. This comes in the form of The Final Draft, which brings with it an all-new ending, more collectibles, and the long-awaited Nightmare difficulty setting. Those who have completed their paythrough now have access to the highly-anticipated game mode, but many are wondering: What carries over when you start? Here’s what you need to know.

What Carries Over in Alan Wake 2: The Final Draft?

Alan Wake 2: The Final Draft is a New Game Plus mode that was introduced to the game this week. Traditionally, this feature allows you to start a new playthrough with all weapons and collectibles intact. The catch? You have to beat the game before you can reap the rewards on a replay.

Remedy Entertainment’s new addition to the series is no exception, requiring you to complete the storylines for both Alan and Saga before you can access the new mode. As such, you can expect to retain a handful of items you collected during your first playthrough once you begin a new game. This includes Words of Power, charms, and weapons. Upgrades for Saga will also remain intact, allowing you to start off your new playthrough with all character perks.

With that being said, you won’t actually begin a new game with these items in your inventory. Instead, you’ll need to pick them up from the first shoebox you find when you play as either Alan or Saga. Once you’re equipped with solid weaponry and power-ups, you can breeze through the story to reach an all-new ending.

What is Alan Wake 2: The Final Draft?

The Final Draft is a New Game Plus mode added to Alan Wake 2 on December 11. While this feature typically provides players with all of the weapons and collectibles they’ve pocketed on a previous playthrough at the start of a new game, the mode for Remedy’s horror-survival title is a touch different in that it adds to the series lore with more collectibles to find, new videos, and a brand-new ending.
