Want to learn how to play on Nightmare difficulty in Alan Wake 2? We’ve got you covered. We’ll go over all the details about the release of the new mode and how you can up the difficulty on your next playthrough.
Alan Wake 2 was released at the tail-end of October, marking a new chapter in the horror writer’s story. The game offers up a dual storyline, following Alan and newcomer Saga Anderson, an FBI Agent tasked with investigating a series of ritualistic murders. As you progress through each character’s questlines, you can pick up a slew of collectibles like Manuscript Pages, Charms, and Cult Stashes — a mission made all the more difficult depending on your game’s difficulty setting.
Nearly two months after its release, Alan Wake 2 is set to receive the Final Draft update that will add yet another setting for those in search of a greater challenge: Nightmare difficulty. This staple returns from the original title in the horror-survival series, fostering excitement within the game’s fanbase. But how do you access this new setting? Here’s what you need to know.

The Final Draft update also introduced an exciting new ending and even more Manuscript Pages to add to your collection on your next playthrough.
How to Play on Nightmare Difficulty in Alan Wake 2
In order to play Alan Wake 2 on Nightmare difficulty, you’ll first need to beat the game. This is standard practice to access New Game Plus, which traditionally allows you to start a new playthrough with all weapons, charms, and collectibles intact.
Once you’ve finished the game, The Final Draft will appear in the main menu of the game. If it doesn’t show up, be sure that you’ve installed the 1.0.13 version, or else you’ll need to update it before you start. Finally, select Nightmare difficulty from the settings provided when you begin the New Game Plus mode.
