PSN Error CE-42739-5 Licensing Issues Popping Up for People Worldwide

If you're seeing PSN error CE-42739-5, and can't seem to play some games, it's not you, but PSN acting up and affecting people worldwide.

Uhhh...MS network issues that crop up this gen have barely ever gotten any attention by the press, and when they do, they barely get talked about. Sony can't even do a system update without having people come down on them for their lack of inspiring updates, and every time there is a network issue, or an apparent one even though it's not wide spread, and often resolved before the report ever gets approved here, gets people talking about how Sony's network is complete crap.

So I don't know where you got this idea that there is a double standard in favor of MS on this type of issue.

@GamerRN Microsoft wanted to own your licenses even if you put in a disc, it that game license would be locked to your one console and you could lend it to a friend or sell it to a game store. That's not true at all, and in fact, some are saying don't do that because their libraries disappeared altogether.

I would question the validity of those claims. There's no way that would erase anything.

I have also had it where that lock has appeared, and all I did was click on the game, and it disappeared, so it could just be a weird blip for some, and could account for why restoring doesn't work (because there's nothing wrong to begin with).

I'm trying to play Bloodborne for the first time right now but am unable to. A bit frustrating as I had planned my entire evening around setting up free time to do this.

It's not really an issue, though. It's a classic case of mountain out of molehill. You also can't trust anyone's accounts of things, especially on reddit.

I've personally had this same thing happen to me on more than one occasion. It was easily remedied by either restoring licenses (I even cited one example above of one of those users claiming they lost everything, and it all came back when they did that) or the lock icon appearing was just a weird blip, and selecting/booting the game got rid of it.

I don't have an issue with anything, but people here are making it out to be something worse than it is.

The reason would be complex databases, and technical glitches that happen when you network complex databases. Every network system is going to have them occassionally. Every network is going to handle them differently. Some will be better than others. I wouldn't call it a non-issue, but it isn't what I'd classify as a critical issue that warrants acting like your life is ruined, or you're really out more than some gaming time you were hoping to spend. There are likely going to be much bigger things in life which will inconvienance you than a digital hiccup.

That said, this is the price of the digital future. Nothing is ever going to work perfectly 100% of the time. If you want digital, that's something that you'll just have to accept, and hope the companies work to improve their reliability as much as possible.

Game patches can fix a host of small issues, but they're still issues. Even if literally nobody experienced them prior to patching, they were still issues because they had a chance of occurring.

Haven't seen this error, just finished Uncharted2 on crushing and synched with no problems. Ended the application but came back a few hours later and restarted the game and began Uncharted3 on crushing with no problems.

If this is only a digital problem then I will just unhook from the internet until I see something stating the problem has been corrected.

Would really suck to lose an entire library of games cultivated over the years because of an error.

Now, I don't know if the statement is true or not, that's why I said I would unplug from the internet for a while just to make sure. Erring on the side of caution you could say.

Honestly though I never got around to unplugging, and so far no problems, fingers crossed. Although I haven't gone looking to see if there is a problem. After all, seek and you may find.

I did not omit that part trying to be deceptive or anything, just showing where I got the idea from that a person lost their library regardless of if it was restored, it still happened.

I guess you are right that I should have added that part to show it was resolved, but you already did that.

It is surprising though, that for a non issue there seems to be a whole lot of rebuttals going on for something that is said to be inconsequential.

I've had my library say it was empty once or twice. I usually just back out, relogin to PSN, and it's fine. However, I do know that weird things happen when you get into databases and license verification. A single character written wrong in some update can cause all sorts of problems. What's important is how they're handled once the problems are found. programmers are people too, and they make mistakes, and unfortunately, even with the best of them, sometimes things get through testing without being found.

I was going to buy a couple of hidden gems on promotion, and PSN was acting up by not verifying my ccv number. I could not make a purchase. Than I went and added funds to my acc with no problem and made the purchase that way.

It is all good with all my games in download list, but I'm not surprised by this news.
They need to do some network maintenance.

I've only ever owned a Gamecube, 360, and now PS4, but I play a lot of games on both Sony and Microsoft consoles. Everyone always argues about exclusives (reasonably; I bought PS4 because I wanted to try MLB The Show & Co.) Both services are comparable. They both have limited issues (I wish my PS4 would stop freezing when using the PS store, but it doesn't really affect my ability to play games) and it seems they are constantly fixing things behind the scenes. FOR ME, the major issue is the complete nonexistence of customer service and support. Maybe they've changed things in recent months or maybe they just ignore us Canadian folk, but I've tried multiple times over the years and haven't had one ounce of help from Sony customer service, if they even get in touch. On the other hand, as a young kid with a 360, I recieved help constantly from Xbox customer service and they did everything from reversing transactions to helping me manually open ports in my network to finding a third party internet listing for a power supply that would match my console when no retailer would sell them, including Microsoft. Customer service matters, solving problems before they get too big (like this one) matters, and preventing issues in the first place matters.

P.S. I have a friend who always had quality internet and very good tech knowledge who lags in every online game on PS4, but not at all on XBOX. For some reason, after like 6 months of this problem, he found out that the PS4 lag would go away almost completely if he was downloading on his XBOX while playing. The lag would immediately resume once the download stopped. This is a consistent and reliable result. It's like finding out you can control the Aurora borealis but dont know why. Just thought I'd share this phenomenon.
