Ability to play ps3 games

Ability to play ps2 games in better fidelity along with option to update controls

SkatterBrain1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Add Ray Tracing to Older Backward Compatible Games ability to upscale to 4k and make games run 60fps ,

Ability to play Xbox games, also known as 3rd party games 😂😂

sander97021606d ago

Ability to play PS2 *DISCS* is most important I don't want to re-buy a limited amount of games.

SegaSaturn6691606d ago

If it could play Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, I'd be on cloud nine.

neutralgamer19921606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

😂

Sander

I think that's what Sony will go for. They will try to make Ps5 as consumer friendly as possible. For me Ps5 being able yo play ps3 games with graphical improvements would be a huge feature(but that's just personal preference)

bouzebbal1606d ago

I'm interested in an improved remote play.. Hope they create an attachment for phone remote play...while keeping the vita.

Donnie811606d ago

Ability to buy games you already own over and over again. Just awesome!

SkatterBrain1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

i wonder what would be cheaper, to put a Cell Processor in this to play my PS3 games or to put a mini umd drive to play my psp games on it

rainslacker1606d ago

@Skatter

Don't think Sony makes the UMD drive anymore, so that'd be expensive to have specially made. IBM still makes CELL processors, but likely would have to be made in special batches now since most CELL plants have been retooled for other processors. CELL was $50 at the end of the PS3's life, and Sony said the price would only go up, not down.

If the clock speed of the APU rumor was true, that should be good enough for CELL emulation. Not as ideal, but the biggest problem with PS3 emulation was the clock speed, not the processing power. Emulation isn't as ideal as native of course.

For a UMD drive, I think an attachment would be more prudent...and throw in a Vita card slot on it as well.

Wishful thinking of course. Likely we'll get a emulated solution for anything but PS4 games, if they do anything other than PS4. CD/DVD support I really hope they do though.

Don't worry... the next Sony PS5 reveal might actually show you the power cable.

S2Killinit1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

In the case of xbox series x this step was not necessary because the console is now inside the power brick. 😁

Unspoken1606d ago

Just might be worth it to get a PlayStation again. The PS1 and 2 days are nostalgic. Hope they can bring that back as the PS4 Gen was meh except a handful of worthy exclusives to play.

thejigisup1607d ago

Jim Ryan is a class act. Hoping we'll get some big info on the hardware specs by April then a slow drip on the features at E3 with a full dive at an early hopeful PSX.

Obscure_Observer1606d ago

Interesting quotes:

"Even just playing the racing game Gran Turismo Sport with a PlayStation 5 controller is a completely different experience. While it runs well with the previous controller, there is no going back after you experience the detailed road surface via haptic control and play using the adaptive triggers."

Is that a confirmation that GT: Sports is transitioning into next generation? Yes, we know about PS5´s BC feature for PS4 games, but to add unique DS5´s features in that game would require a considerable ammount of work.

Due the successful partnership with FIA and Sony´s particular interest in e-sports via GT: Sports, I think that´s a possibility.

1606d ago
IRetrouk1606d ago

They used it on the ps5 dev kits during wireds hands on with the new controller, they also had an 8k version running at 120fps showing off one of their new tvs, their new engine was built with future proofing in mind, so it's a possibility.

FyBy1606d ago

I think gt sport continuity is given. Maybe it will be special mode in GT7, but Polyphony did so much things, that are to be here longer than few years. I hope gt sport will continue seamlessly on ps5 with crossplay on ps4. Its a way to build gt community further. Fingers crossed.

Rude-ro1606d ago

It’s kind of been confirmed for two years.. yes, not officially, but that gtsport can support up to 8k 240fps. Why say that other than the game itself is going forward.
No, I am definitely not implying that it will run as such.. anyone under the son knows these consoles will not be native 8k...
but the engine is and was made new for this gen to support the future gen.
That is why it released as it did, Sony just did not properly translate that this version of gran turismo is a living breathing game. Like a gaas.. but for free.
Ie destiny 2 will be going forward to next gen as well being that bungie has stated there will be 3 more years at least of the current game.

rainslacker1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. It's still going pretty strong and getting regular updates.

A nice PS5 patch would be good....and add in a new VR mode which supports full races would be amazing.

I've been thinking I wish Namco would make a Ace Combat release not unlike GT:S. With lots of missions that they keep adding onto.

Why does Jim Ryan reminds me of sloth in the goonies?

strayanalog1607d ago

If you don't offer him a baby ruth I will.

The_Sage1606d ago

I have no idea. I don't see it.

traumadisaster1606d ago

Odd shaped head, no ? u don’t see his head shape proportion? Made worse with the haircut. Not that there is anything wrong with that as a person just an honest observation.

traumadisaster1606d ago

I see it too, and others. This ain’t a blind convention. You can’t be honest his head is weird shaped no? I wouldn’t care if that was my gramps it still true. Haircut doesn’t help.

Rimeskeem1606d ago

@traumadisaster

The only thing the same about their looks is overall headshape (which one is overtly exaggerated compared to the other) and hair color and style (though Ryan has significantly more hair.

But saying he reminds him of sloth is more of an insult than anything else. His face is symmetrical, nose is straight, ears are same level, teeth are present in locations they should be.

There is the slightest resemblance but it would take a lot of realization to make that connection. Or you have poor vision.

Gunstar751606d ago

He has a head like a pineapple

gangsta_red1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

He looks like Gordon Ramsay

Abnor_Mal1606d ago

That's odd, cause I was thinking he looks like the type of person who enjoys a bit of the sauce in secret after work.

Of course let me say that's just my opinion at a cursory glance and does not really reflect what that man does on his life to relax after a hards day of work.
Pfft, that should keep the Jim Ryan fan(people) at bay.

traumadisaster1606d ago

Me too, his gait seems kind of stumbly, eyes out of focus with one eye slightly on symmetry, face seems slightly abused from alcohol, kind of a half grin from his buzz.

Master of Unlocking1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Because of the hair. I know, the same idea came to my mind when I saw him on stage. While he doesn't look anywhere near as ugly as that character in that movie (thank god for him btw), it's impressive the effect a bad (terrible in his case) haircut can have on the perception of your overall appearance people can have, lol
...that and in both his case and sloth's case the bad haircut underlines a large forehead and a perhaps unusual skull shape.
Ah, well.

DarXyde1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

I have no idea. That's a bit left field.

I'm not a fan of the guy though. I just don't feel the same charisma from him as Tretton or Hirai. Layden I could take or leave.

I could be wrong. Too early to say, really. He just feels... profoundly corporate.

rainslacker1606d ago

I'm hoping he'll grow into it like Layden did. Layden's first appearance on stage was painful, like a deer caught in the headlights and seemed he was eager to be done. Even Tretton was awkward in the beginning.

Ryan has a bit too much swagger though. Lots of confidence, but sometimes doesn't express himself in the best way when addressing the public.

traumadisaster1606d ago

If you placed 3 pics one with Sloth, Jim, and then any other old executive people would see it.

rainslacker1606d ago

I think it's his way of teasing a new The Goonies game sequel.

froy4021606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Hahah, dude or mam... heheh...if sony wanted to get some headlines and attention they would have unvailed a tiny glimpse of the ps5 which would have broke the internet, they've barely shown the ps5 logo and the media and everyone's attention is flocking towards it. Sales figures speak for themselves I don't even have explain it any further we all know which is the way more popular console.

AngelicIceDiamond1606d ago

"they've barely shown the ps5 logo and the media and everyone's attention is flocking towards it." It's not for the right reasons though.

A whole event and decided not to talk about much.

But I understand what Sony's doing though. Truth be told, there's no rush to beat its competitor to the punch at virtually anything. They still have their line up of games to finish off on PS4. Plus the mind share is already there so they don't have to do as much, they don't need to be aggressive, its not warranted.

So this minor little backlash over a logo means nothing to Sony.

Majin-vegeta1606d ago

Over 5 millions likes for the logo soooooooooooooooooo I'm pretty sure the thunder is still intacted😂😂 8514;

Obscure_Observer1606d ago

@GTgamer

Lol. Instagram.

But hey, if Playstation fans are this excited about the PS5´s logo, I think its only logical to conclude that Ryan missed a great opportunity by not revealing the PS5 console and controller at CES.

I think a surprising reveal would make a bigger impact out of Sony´s confort zone than a dedicated and controlled event that will pretty much spoil potential impact and surpring factor.

rainslacker1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

I think waiting to reveal keeps a card in their hand in case MS releases something more substantial. MS is the aggressor here, but Sony is just somewhat passively waiting to see what MS throws on the table before playing their hand.

Sony likely also has a timeline for reveals and info, and some leeway to deviate if it feels it necessary. Basically, Sony has their marketing plan in place, and they have strong PS4 releases to help carry them for quite a few more months now.

They'll probably have a full-ish reveal(like the PS4 event) before E3, then E3 will be filled with lots of next gen talk.

2pacalypsenow1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Lucky they have deep pockets is all I'll say.

I see publishing in their future.

Bronxs151605d ago

You have no point, just flawed logic. Bad sales one console generation can turn to good sales the next generation. For example GameCube sold around 20 million. Should Nintendo fans have gotten used to that as you say? Well why the Wii outsold PlayStation and Xbox that gen. Likewise good sales one generation does not mean sales can’t be bad the next. Example, following the Wii, the next gen Nintendo had their worst sales ever, around 10 million with the Wii U. Even after ps2’s 120+ million sales, the ps3 sold less at only around 80million after that PS4 sold more. There’s no guarantee what’s popular now will continue to be popular or what’s unpopular won’t become popular. See Xbox to Xbox 360. See Wii u to switch. See ps3 to PS4.

xX-oldboy-Xx1605d ago

Bronxs15 - Flawed logic? Facts bro - nothing more. Every PS home console has sold well - EVERY SINGLE ONE! PS2 had 150+ million sales, hard task following the greatest console of all time - and the Wii had broad appeal.

PS3 sold extremely well and it's extremely solid later years drove the success of PS4. ms spontaneously combusting through their own ego was just icing on the cake.

ms has never had good sales, never won a gen, never looked like winning a gen. Their most successful console had inflated numbers and the worst failure rate of home console ever - 54.2% to be exact.

I actually think just showing the logo, and barely any new info shows that they really aren't that concerned with anything MS is announcing right now.

That could be a good or bad thing, but they've played their cards right all gen, and playing their cards close to their chest worked well for them last gen. Sony played MS last console reveal season, and it really seems like Sony has MS on the attack, but MS isn't close enough to really hit anything yet.

Take-Two CEO Doesn’t Think AI Will Reduce Employment or Dev Costs; “Stupidest Thing” He’s Heard

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick doesn't think AI will reduce employment or lower development costs, and calls it "stupidest thing" he's ever heard.

lodossrage12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

They already have AI trained to do coding.......

How he thinks it's stupid is beyond me, Especially since we see it happening in real time.

CS79h ago

Company A has 300 employees and lays of 200 to replace them with AI to release the same quality game.

Company B has 300 employees and keeps all 300 but instead uses AI to release a game with dramatically larger scale, scope, complexity, short dev cycle etc.

Company B would release a dramatically better product by using humans + AI and consumers would buy the better game.

I actually agree with this concept.

Huey_My_D_Long9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

This is key facet. Its how the AI is used. It's actually is impressive as is and really would make an amazing addition to alot of people in their jobs, not just tech. It also has the potential for businesses to use to lay off large amounts of people, as much as they could to save money on labor. I hope too many companies don't go with the latter. But since usually companies are worried about bottom line over people...we will see some try and hopefully fail. But yeah, if its to help workers like in your company B scenario I'm totally down...Just scared Company A may be too enticing to some ceos and businesses.

Darkegg9h ago

Value of AI and value of humans will both be increased with human-AI complex. Each, by themselves, will not be independently better than the other. Whether AI will ever be independent from humans is the fear question of humans, ironically because of our doing. At this stage, most of the doing is because of humans, not because of AI. AI is doing exactly that by our design, until we have failed ourselves with an AI development that went awry. The biggest take is that humans have only ourselves to blame when things become wrong, and we have to decide what is the ultimate goal with AI we want to accomplish. It would take a person with high morals and high ethics to make right of AI. I would not want businessman to decide what AI should do or what capabilities it can have. AI should be in the hands of people with high moral fiber, or those operating on love, kindness, and compassion.

BlackOni8h ago

AI is SUPPOSED to be used as a tool, not a replacement. It's designed to do two important things artists can take advantage of immediately.

- Make the ideation/reference imaging process much quicker and easier (basically using it as a google search)
- Make mundane and time consuming tasks faster and easier so more time is spent on creation.

Unfortunately, what many have done is used it as a way to replace rather than supplement.

Einhander19725h ago(Edited 5h ago)

CS7

In the ideal world yes.

In the real world where companies have shown little desire to innovate and spent every effort to maximize profits the end result will be the same quality games (if were lucky) made by less people and more AI.

Company Real World: Fires 200 people and makes the same game cheaper using AI and the executives get record bonuses.

Edit:

Lets look at history, specifically auto manufacturing.

In the 70's and 80's the auto unions tried to oppose automation of jobs (robots) stating that they would take peoples jobs. And the people in charge who wanted to make more money said the exact same types of things that are being said about AI. But we can look at history and see that countless types of jobs were in fact replaced by automation, that was of course even compounded upon by computers.

The net effect was that the rich got richer less jobs were needed so wages were forced down by competition for the jobs that were left.

He doesn't, he's just lying. These people lay people off so they can get bonuses. If AI takes jobs, their bonus goes bigger and the workforce goes smaller.

porkChop6h ago

Because he sees AI as a tool to aid development. He wants to use AI to help make bigger and better games in the same timeframe. Other CEOs want to replace devs with AI to cut costs and make lifeless games faster for a quick buck. Strauss has the right idea, this is how AI should be used. To extend and expand the capabilities of devs.

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje2d ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils2d ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick2d ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz1d 21h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1251d 20h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff1d 17h ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?
