It’s been a two year drought and they have…five games to show off. It’s no wonder they were coming out and saying “manage expectations” for tonight’s direct.

Start as you mean to go on and if this is how the team at Xbox thinks they should start the year, I fear for yet another year of delays, limited releases and flops. Phil, DO SOMETHING! Talk talk talk but no action. What are you doing?

So let me get this straight, they sucked yet they released a game today (and it's not Golden Eye) and gave a release for Minecraft Legend in April, Reffall in may, and a completely new ESO expansion in June.
So we are (for the moment) without an MS product for the month of February and March

What do they need to do?
Release 1 AAA game like Forza each month?

Let’s start with the obvious one, shall we?

ESO: not an exclusive, not anything to shout about, a chapter for a relatively popular MMO.

Moving on: Forza was revealed July 2020. In case you are blissfully unaware, it’s 2023 & we still don’t have a release date.

Minecraft Legends: not for me but I’m sure others will enjoy it, I’m impartial.

Hi-Fi Rush: lovely surprise of a shadow drop and it looks fun but as I’ve said, let’s not echo chamber ourselves into thinking this is a win for Xbox. It’s a game designed specifically for GamePass, it’s not a system seller.

Redfall: Delay after delay and it looks pretty poor. Another co-op shooter as if we haven’t had enough of those constantly trying to recapture the glory days of L4D2.

Let’s see a few examples of what we’re missing:

-Hellblade 2: Announced 2019, no release window.
-State of Decay 3: Announced June 2020, no release window.
-Everwild: Announced 2019, 2024 window.
-Fable: Announced 2020, no release window.
-Starfield: Announced 2018, H1 2023, no date.
-Darktide: Announced 2020, currently 2 months behind release schedule.

Need I go on or…?
Xbox talk but do nothing.
The competitors, namely Sony & Nintendo, reveal projects and actually release them close to their reveal whilst also having a solid foundation of exclusives.

Definitely wouldn't hurt. The bar is really low. Over 2 years since launch and that's a long time to have 23 studios and a drought. Playstation and Nintendo with far fewer studios have a greater output than Xbox and with much less money than Xbox/Microsoft too. That's the point olMyerslo was getting at.

Instead of making excuses for such terrible output you guys should be asking for more. But to be fair you're also the guy who thought Gears 5 were revolutionaries with assessibility when they copied Naughty Dog. Must be nice to be so easily pleased.

Well, you're right because it seems that I'm easy to please with Hi-Fi Rush just like like a lot of popular streamers and some PlayStation youtube users (Dreamcast Guy) who seems to be really pleased with the event :)
And guess what? I have been playing the game for a couple of hours and it's a blast t play.
But don't worry about me, you can go play a real game like Forspoken since it's a Real game
(I would suggest playing Monster Hunter 5 which came out this month but hey it's a Switch port )

And I didn't bother responding to your accessibility comment when you mentioned Uncharted 4

Because you made it seem like TLOU2 stole things from Gears 5 and you were WRONG. Uncharted 4 came out what 4 years before Gears 5?! TLOU2 and options in TLOU Remake ALL came from what was already being advanced by NaughtyDog. GoW also did the same a year before Gears 5.

So again you made it seem like Gears 5 started these options which is blatantly wrong. Others started 4 years before Gears 5 and all they did was copy others were doing so not going to credit something they didn't pioneer; which again is what you're trying to imply. You specifically made it seen like TLOU2 was stealing these options from Gears which again is absolutely idiotic. So yeah you want to say idiotic things then expect to be called on your idiocy.

As for this mediocre list. Glad you're so easily appeased. Got far better games on Playstation like GoW Ragnarok and games like FF16, FF7 Rebirth, Gran Blue Relink, PSVR2, Spiderman 2 to be bothered with these games.

So yeah I wouldn't worry about me. Playstation and Nintendo will have me easily covered for games. I don't have to settle for Xbox's mediocre offerings when their competitors are releasing far better exclusives.

But an extra portion of the open world of Horizon Zero Dawn or the new FF XiV, Destiny, etc. is a sure thing to talk about.
Look I don't care about ESO, FFXIV, or any online RPG but I don't see why this expansion announcement should be lessened because it's not a single-player DLC.

As Forza Goes it says 2023 and MS were specific about showing games releasing in the first 6 months, so yeah perhaps it will be a delay to later this year but we cross that bridge when we arrive, just remember that God of War date reveal was quite late and close to the release date.

What's missing from Hi-Fi Rush?
Let me guess Insomniac calling it Sunset Overdrive 2 or Sega making another Jetset Radio
Just find it funny that when MS releases a Halo/Fable/Gears/Forza it is the same old same old but when it's a new IP it's never a win potential despite Metacritics often saying otherwise

Regarding Redfall I'll just point out that Arkane has a great track record so how about we wait and see But I agree with you they should have made a cinematic 3rd person adventure game instead (we haven’t had enough of those).

As for what we're missing just pointing out that MS clearly mentioned that they were showing these games.

the problem with Forza isn't the game, it's the predictable delaying of the game (probably winter 2023) when Phil clearly mentioned that they would stop doing this.
and I don't mind delays if the game is not done but be honest instead of saying don't worry it will come on time and push it back 6 months to again push it back 6 months (see Starfield).

When playing solo there's no npc's assisting you or guiding you so it's pure solo play. I assume it plays like Farcry/deathloop except open world.

Well, Bethesda always has been a studio mostly focused on single player games, specially Arkane. No sure why you think they´re lying after all they said and shown. After all, the game wil be day one on Gamepass, so I see no reason for the studio to try and lure/trick people into buy it.

It´s like you want this game to be focused on co-op like you been saying since its announcement.

I suggest you to wait for reviews before you even get close to it.

I was fairly interested in redfall until a few months ago when a video I was watching led me to believe it was an online multi-player game , looked it up and sure enough. It killed my interest. I'm still definitely getting a series x when starfield comes out. I'm a Sci fi nut so I know imma love it.

Yeah Deathloop is exactly why I'm worried. That game falls into the category of cringeworthy dialogue like Forspoken, Shadows of the Damned, and Bulletstorm. All these games had the script penned by a 12 year old who just learned to curse. The fact that Arkane THEN came out n said they prefer making Deathloop to Dishonored. Forza looks insane, unmatched visuals for sure. And on-track raytracing at 4k60. This is next-gen racing.

Hi-Fi Rush was a huge surprise, and from Tango none the less, would not have expected that. Looks great and the 'available today' drop was a nice surprise.

MC Legends actually looks pretty interesting, but not sure if I'll be able to get into it. But it's MC, so I'm sure it'll be a huge hit.

Overall though, this presentation format was better than what Xbox normally does. They should use this style going forward for E3 etc.

Starfield was never going to show up - they said this when they announced the event - Starfield has its own entire/dedicated event coming up. Heck, that game is huge and with the amount of hype behind it, they made the right decision to give it it's own event.

I think Redfall looks excellent, and Hi-Fi Rush looks fun...why can't that just mean, I want to play them no matter what else is out or not out? Do you like Nintendo games? I'm hyped for 90% of their games, what does that mean to you?

I think Forza looks amazing graphically, but I am not really into Racing sims, so I rather play Redfall and Hi-Fi Rush over Forza...so I want you to curb your Forza excitement because I don't feel the same way as you, so you can't be so excited about it..ok?

In other words, why do you get to set the excitement level for any games for people?

The new FM game's RT looks bad with obvious fireflies (not something you see in GT7 or FH5 on PC - I know, I own both). The 3D foliage looks serviceable but I think what T10 means by RT on track at 4K60 means the game will render 4K60 without RT on Xbox Series X like it already does in FH5 and 4K30 with RT maybe 4K60 with paired back graphics or something.

Regardless T10's close up of the Forzavista car in the garage showed an obvious jump in visual fidelity up to what we expect to see in a PS5/XSX game (like what we see in GT7 in game sans RT which only shows up in GT7 replays at 30FPS), but their gameplay RT shots left a LOT to be desired.

Their car models also look exactly the same as what we already see in FH5 with some finer details looking just as blocky as they do on PC which is still behind GT7's model complexity which itself looks to be exactly the same as it did on PS4 but is still more acceptable because it was a generation ahead of FM7's and FH4's car models... Forza has yet to match that level of fidelity.

Car dirt accumulation looks too heavy-handed, it looks like dirt will accumulate in the right places but dirt isn't black and they need to tone it down a bit. Also I've seen lots of dirty cars and it is very unusual to see dirt accumulate in the depressions that are at the rear of the car. That needs to be reduced to like a fraction of a percent of what they showed off in their Developer Direct.

To recap: The new FM's RT is worse than FH5's on PC and in GT7 while also having variation between scenes looking the same to much worse than what we see in GT7 (PS5) in similar situations while still lacking any complex paint shaders during actual gameplay (which are visible during gameplay in GT7). FM (~2023) looks to be built using the same ForzaTech engine with resources shuffled around. Maybe we will see RT "on track" on XSX for the first time in a 1st party racing game, maybe we won't get it during gameplay like in FH5 (XSX) and in the competition's sim racer GT7 (PS5) all at 4K60. Even if we do get RT it looks worse than what's already in FH5 on PC (no matter what settings you choose). 3D foliage exists in GT7 and FM and to what extent that will make a real difference is yet to be seen, it looked great in some of the short scenes shown in FM (~2023) and poor in others. It generally looks ok in FH5 and GT7, but foliage can still look borderline broken in both those games as well. And that's the extent of the visual improvements. With nothing else to go on no info about new sim aspects and only talk about how much better the physics are now, we have to wait and see what improvements wind up coming to FM (~2023).

First, it was, they need to show games, now Xbox has a stacked first and 3rd party 5-6 months, and the goal has moved.

Now it's all about having super duper visuals for every game, smh. Then he ignores Forza, which is phenomenal graphics, and asks about the power of a console when it is clearly on display.

On another note, Arkane has never ever had the best-in-class graphics for any of their games, but they do have great-looking games, just like Redfall looks great.

By your logic I guess all of Sony's 1st party games last year don't matter since they cross gen then. Forspoken is a must have since it is current gen only right?

Forza is great and when I told where are the next Gen games, I wasn't talking about forza, but orchard, as usual tried to twist my words. But all forza game are great.

Microsoft needs much more then forza. I still belive that the next trailer of starfield will have that wowww factor.

As more of a ps player, I thought the show and games were good, a lot better than their previous efforts this gen so far and I'm now looking at my sons series x like I may have to borrow it... not everything has to scream next gen for it to be a fun or worthwhile experiance.

I don't understand either. I read the comments first because everyone are so excited with HI_FI and Redfall, so I checked the gameplay right away then boom. Redfall graphics are underwhelming, I think it's on par with Vampire the masquerade bloodhunt. And HI-FI is just..... anyway, good thing there's Forza.

Mediocre as hell IMO. Coming from an Xbox fan, aren't 1st party games supposed to be leaps and bounds superior to 3rd party counterparts? Plague Tale Requiem looks more next-gen than any of these games. Hell, P.T. looks more next-gen than Redfall smh.

The direct was very lackluster. The only game that looks fun to play for me is Redfall which finally has a release date,though the graphics looked cheap but the gameplay looks fun. Out of curiosity I will demo the Tangoworks Hi- Fi Rush, it looks somewhat interesting but it's a rhythm game so I may not get into it.

I wasn't blown away at all. Redfall looks decent to play but the little rest was shown I don't care about. At least next month & March there's the multiplats Atomic Heart & Wo Long to play on GP until Redfall releases on GP in May.

Well that was not great but i suppose they can't show all the 1st/3rd party console exclusives that MS usually show at their gaming events due to them pretending to the FTC that they need Activision in order to be equal to Sony in the industry.

The only game that looked like next gen was Forza and even then it doesn't scream the type of game that was developed for a 12TF console. I'm disappointed by both XSX and PS5 it's 2023 and we still don't have any games that look and play like games that can only be done on their hardware.

OK overall thoughts and ramblings

Ok, not a fan of Minecraft but Warcraft3 meets Minecraft sounds like a great idea for PC players just don't know how they can make this work for the console.

Forza 8 sure looks incredible but no real date feels like it will be pushback to November 2023
Still, this blows away the already impressive Forza HZ 5 in terms of graphics.

ESO... I guess it's nice if you love this kind of game, never been a fan of FF14, DC online, Sea of Thieves, WOW, etc.
But seeing the numerous expansions they made shows that the game is popular and well-supported.

Redfall is a tough cookie to crack because it's impossible to nail exactly what it is. Is this a coop game like Back 4 blood?
It's an open world so is it like Dying light?
If it's story-driven then why show nothing about the story cause it sure lacks something at the moment.
The real ray of hope for this game is it was made by Arkane and they have yet to disappoint with what they do ( I wonder how they will connect this to the Dishonored universe).

Last but not least
Hi-Fi Rush Now that is a freaking nice surprise Is it I of this oose of Sunset Overdrive meet Devil MC Cry.
I was expecting just a trailer and more at E3 but we got a deep dive into the game and it's releasing tonight!!!!!

Forza looks good as usual. Wish gt7 was built for next gen only like this was. Red fall will probably try on pc with some friends. Mainly looking forward to starfield. The show was a little eh but at least we get some gaming news.

I guess these directs are like Nintendo direct and state of play, you'll have some awesome ones and meh ones
It all comes down to the type of games you like at the end of the day for me it was just Forza this time round and the others not so much but can appreciate lots of gamers will enjoy Minecraft, ESO, redfall etc.

You watch this presentation and it really shows that Microsofts heart is just not that into videogames as an artistic endeavor. They want product, even if they have to pay a premium for it, to cram in to their company wide service based model. Redfall, one of their heavy hitters this year, looks so benign and generic it kind of remarkable. Nothing has been presented/released that shows the power of the series x, and we're going into year 3.

M$ sucks, (xbox "fan"..OG x-box to present) this "showcase" was garbage. Just shows that M$ has no idea, nothing more than the continued "the games are coming". I now hope that FTC somehow is able to block the Activision deal. They couldn't even announce Forza release...what a joke, never mind releasing Starfield, which at this point IMHO is nothing more than vaporware, and more "it's coming" rhetoric. I really feel bad for Todd Howard and Bethesda, and look to him and many others jumping ship to either start a new Company outside of Xbox, or just go to Sony/tencent/other.. M$ has so much $ that they could rapidly produce great games...but instead continue to give gamers nothing other than Gamepass and a BIG bag of D's.

This showcase was a hifi rush advertisement. Brilliant honestly. Complete silence and then launch with a showcase? Marketing budgets can be ridiculous even matching production in some cases. A day of video editing is what? Hifi rush does look uniquely cool. Not something I’d buy day one but I will play it eventually I think.

Overall underwhelming showcase from a present view. The drought is still mysterious. For the purpose of marketing hifi rush though? Well done. Now if they start dropping “out todays” like scatter bombs throughout the year then that’s a different story. That would be sick and a respectable move.

Good communication... They told us what to expect, they made a short show showing their games and shadow drop a very fun looking game same day at gamepass...
If Microsoft stick to this as standards they will advance (i wish they could show release dates but their is a forza only show... So maybe they save that for the show

Minecraft Legends, HI FI RUSH and Redfall look like games-games that are built to have fun and enjoy yourself. Sure they might not be big cinematic experiences like Sony's titles, but I enjoyed playing sea of thieves and state of decay 2 with friends last gen A LOT MORE than going through God of War or Days Gone.

Redfall doesn't look like it needs Series X/S to run the textures looked early last gen and style wise not of my taste at all.

I'm going to have to stick up for MS here,. Hifi looked fun a hell, forza a masterpiece, Redfall looked fun gameplay if not the blockbuster graphics wise, and I don't care for Minecraft but overall 9/10 from me
