From PS Blog: "We’ve teamed up with PlayStation and the legendary Astro is tumbling into the Blunderdome. Yes, that’s correct – you can now be PlayStation’s cutest robot right here in Fall Guys.
And because so many of you have asked how our incredible art team put together these designs, we thought we’d give you a crash course on the making of a Fall Guys costume. Enjoy!"
Astro Bot will include over 150 PlayStation cameos, and will focus on delivering a single-player experience with no microtransactions.
A unique single player game with no MTX garbage? It’s almost as if we went back in time to when gaming was actually fun. Can’t wait to play it!
Same! Only missing a confirmation about a physical release.. i have been busy i havent checked all the news.. this game will hit hard..
Gamers please support this!!
I heard people on Twitter say “it feels like we got a video game” and honestly after watching this bright, vibrant, fun trailer which makes you smile giving you flashbacks to those old school glory days, I kind of “get it”
It does feel like it’s just a fun looking game over something like Concord which just screams “give me your money”.
Give me VR compatibility, or at least several VR-only missions (it does matter to be VR only, as Astrobot Rescue Mission built its levels around your body, so there are sections where you have to peek around corners, look around to see platforms, headbutt bosses, the levels interact with you as if you're part of the game, etc..), and this will be GOTY contender for me. That was literally my only disappointment with this game, no mention of VR, and that's what made Astrobot special on PS4.
Sweeeeeeet. Stoked for this. Curious what the price point will be. I’m gunna guess $50.
Why wouldn’t it be $69.99? It’s a fully featured game with no micro-transactions and releasing with a physical copy available. Nothing wrong with charging the normal price for a full game.
By Sony's own admission from earlier this year, they were not going to release any AAA 1st party games this year so it is reasonable to believe this should forgo AAA pricing.
I believe they called this a smaller title, so no it won’t cost $60 or $70.
Simply because I don’t know the length of the game. It looks substantial. But also, in terms of the IP, the other Astro Games have been great but have essentially been tech demos. If it turns out this is the same length as say Ratchet and Clank, then I’d be fine paying full price. If it’s like 8 hrs or something, then full price is a tough sell. I really don’t think it will be $70.
While it would be great if it's 50 i don't think it should be expected to be below 60 or 70.
Especially since graphically similar and inferior games come out on the switch for 60 on a regular basis.
Everything about this game sounds and looks great. Plenty of reasons to be hyped about Astro Bot
I'm in my 40s and have enjoyed Astro game, when it was free to download for PS5. Duelsense controller is what made this game really good and fun.
New Astro game will be fun for all people not just kids.
Astro Bot is played and enjoyed by adults too, so just stop with the childish comments.
I play games to have fun. That’s what I did when I was 10, that’s what I’ll do with this game as a 30 year old. A true platformer like Astro Bot. Probably will be my favourite game of the year. This year played plenty of Helldivers 2, ff7 rebirth, the last of us 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 but Astro Bot. That’s gaming at its purest
You’re thinking about Nintendo, and yes, I have a Switch too bc I love games
I hope to God it becomes a bigger hit than they were expecting
Especially if hypothetically Concord fails because it would show Sony that people care more about these types of games over live service generic crap.
I think it'll be bigger than Concord, but how big I'm not sure. Astro Bot is going to kill it though, that's for sure.
Day 1 for me. Little disappointed no VR mode is included but it doesn't need it really
To become a The new mascot and survive in the long run, it had to be released for PS5.
Would've been nice with a hybrid for us PSVR2 owners, but this seems like a perfect fit for my TV anyways 😊
For me this game was the hit on the PlayStation Direct.. the trailer was a wonderful mix of charm, gameplay showcase and some mechanics you are going to use. I can't wait! Good job Team Asobi!
Metacritic is not the be-all; end-all it is often treated as, but PSVR exclusive Astro Bot Rescue Mission has a 90 critic score on Metacritic with a perfectly matching 9/10 user score. Speaking from personal experience, the game easily earns its score.
It's more impressive that it achieved that score despite the bias VR titles receive from critics. IMO, critics allow their grievances against the platform to affect their scoring of the games to a degree that doesn't happen with a platform like the Switch. There is no indication that Metacritic has a separate weight system for VR titles to give greater weight to the scores of VR enthusiast outlets. The result is that the scores of VR enthusiasts outlets more in tune with how to score a VR title to reflect the interests of the target demographic are given less weight in the Meta score of VR titles than outlets that are assigned a greater weight by Meta that aren't particularly geared toward scoring VR titles.
That's a wordy way to say the game impressed and overcame obstacles to earn its reception. The PS5 freebie impressed. This trailer impressed. "We" don't have to hype up anything. I think people are responding positively and proportionally based on what they saw and history. Your comment comes off like you're insinuating the reception is undeserved.
in a year with no big heavy hitters, sony takes the time to build up their newest mascot,
I mean, they are pretty clever!
they cancelled some games too, maybe they saw people are buying less games, (12% less in fact) but when they buy, they want quality, they doubling down with wolverine and so on & so on big hitters, but until then, we have astro to tide us over.
Games like this and the original Astro's Playroom is what defines Playstation and what sets Sony apart in the earlier days of the Psone and PS2.
To date, I still think Astro's Playroom is still one of the best PS5 games, and by far still the best showcase for the dual sense control.
I legit had a blast playing it when I first bought my PS5. Glad to see the new game is continuing on the formula. It comes out 6th September which is 4 days before my birthday.
Broooo I'm definitely getting this September gone be lit fr stalker 2 and this gem 🔥🔥🔥
Astro Bot was finally unveiled at May’s State of Play, and the soulful platformer immediately made its way onto Aaron Down's PS5 wishlist.
"As the Astro Bot trailer begins, I’m immediately reminded why I was so unphased by Astro’s Playroom, as the adorable lil homie is greeted by a floating PlayStation controller. This veneer of indifference is quickly dispelled, though, as it quickly transforms into a jet plane – ‘huh, okay, that’s kinda neat,’ I thought to myself. From there, for the rest of the three-minute trailer, my jaw refused to retract itself from the floor as I gobbled up virtual dopamine like orbs in a game of Snake."
This is a fun read
Astro's Playroom is surprisingly fun and a cute PS5 launch title. IMO it uses the dual sense really well, definitely among the best examples of the DS's features. Quick Edit: Didn't see the other responses below regarding Astro's Playroom.
Astrobot Rescue Mission is easily one of the best VR games ever made, and definitely the best VR platformer ever made.
Doing a replay of astros playroom and it is still fun and charming. Love the nods to other series.
I actually never finished Astros Playroom, while the game was fine I wished it was in vr, I should redownload and finish before the new release.
To be honest I’m not into platformers, never have been, but playing Astros Rescue Mission in vr really helped me get into a platformer. Which is why I was somewhat let down with Playroom which was only flatscreen, and brought back my inability to play such games.
Yes I played Astros Rescue Mission, and really liked it which is why I saw slightly upset Astros Playroom also was not in vr.
Agreed it’s a shame many of PSVR1 games are stuck on it without dated control schemes, I’ve been saying from the beginning that Sony should have had its studios work on PSVR2 iteration of their vr games, and pay the third part devs to update their games for PSVR2. Not all the games, just the highly traded games that sold well on their platform and had high player engagements.
Games like Mortal Blitz, Arizona Sunshine, Killing Floor, Farpoint, The Persistance, Superhot, Borderlands, Sniper Elite, not to mention Skyrim and Doom VFR, and many more deserved better controls.
People ignoring Astro's Playroom need to go back and actually play the dang thing! Its short, sweet, memorable, AND ITS FREE! PLAY IT IF YOU HAVEN'T YET!
Can't wait... I also want another VR one too though... my PSVR2 needs some actions -_-
I was surprised seeing the ps5 joystick in the game used as some sort of transportation I'm like yoooo definitely gotta try this out, I thought astro boy was just a themed psn character for Playstation but now I know wassup definitely been wanting this type of title lately
If you haven't played the previous one you should check it out its fantastic and really shows off what the dual sense can do.
The games have received vastly different fan reactions following their reveals…
Games still want to be like overwatch when overwatch is dead smh. I just want a regular military shooter boots on the ground without abilities and powers, just regular non superhuman soldiers using modern real life weapons for a pvp shooter.
i honestly didnt know anything about concord, it looksd fantastic, but then boom, multiplayer lol i was definitely disappointed.
people dont want that shit anymore.
Astrobot is also really good haha
Exactly. Could've been an awesome single player sci fi game.
And yet again no rpgs from sony
People want solid SP games and sony got it wrong once more by going all in with gaas.
Astro day one 👍🏽 Concord never 👎
When the story trailer began I could tell it was a well envisioned world and characters and lore - but that seems to be wasted on a hero shooter. Why not make the whole package like classic Halo, where there is a single player campaign that is enjoyable and immerses you in the world AND have the multiplayer aspect?
I don't really play much online but the mechanics looked fun. Perhaps this game, like Helldivers II that had no pre-release hype, will find an audience.
@venom I know right, these games like Overwatch, Apex, Concord and many other hero shooters put a lot of effort into the characters, lore and universe, but don't do stuff with it. Just spend an extra year to work on level design and I won't mind paying full price. I just don't know how devs forgot how to make a complete package like the old days.
I disagree people don’t want it. I don’t want it , you don’t want it, but unfortunately there is a crowd who loves live service type of pvp games
Wonder if the team are sitting back like man we messed up we should of just made it a story game
@shinoff I can't recall any Sony published RPG games they have all been built via partnerships like the FF games from memory.aybe I'm wrong but seems like something Sony has always avoided directly
"people dont want that shit anymore."
Couldn't be more wrong with that statement imo.
The current top 10 games on Steam as I'm typing is: Counter-Strike 2, DOTA2, PUBG, Apex Legends, Naraka Bladepoint, GTA V, Wallpaper Engine, Rust, Team Fortress 2 and CoD.
There's a huge demand for this type of game and that's why Sony is chasing it. But to compete with the best, Sony will need to make Concord F2P otherwise it's dead within 12 months.
I think the reason for the dislikes is more down to the lack of comms from PlayStation around those single player projects. If Concord was in addition to those experiences, people would probably be fine with it.
I also think the way it was announced was a bit strange. The main demographic of people watching those State of Plays aren't looking for this type of experience so when the guy smugly comes on announcing Concord as top billing as if it's a ND game and then they do a graphics bait and switch from cinematic trailer to goofy team fortress clone, it did feel a bit tone deaf.
And I just wanted Concord to be a solid sci-if arena shooter in the vein of Halo or Unreal Tournament/Championship. Alas it ain't that either.
Astro Bot on the other hand - heck yes that trailer is serving out exactly what it needs to, I'm Day One on that and it was easily my favorite announcement yesterday.
Agreed. I don't mind Sci fi themed shooters, but I am SO over this cheeky MCU flavored humor and bright, colorful, comic book graphic design. I want darker, gritty Sci fi. I want Killzone or Resistance style graphics with weight to it! This is such a letdown!
Even though it’s not military, I think the last good old school multiplayer game for me was Uncharted 2.
You literally had two boosters which really didn’t feel like they did much after level 20 or something when you were more experienced
No killstreaks, no load outs, no weapon mods, no nothing. It was glorious.
The irony in that is that U2 MP was heavily influenced by Halo, Bungie even helped out on the technical stuff. Now Bungie is at the forefront of bad MP practices. U2 was my drug dood.
uncharted 2 mp was fantastic. the amount of hours i spent on there is ridiculous ha.
Uncharted 2 was the best MP for me since Halo 2/3. I did very much like UC4 as well. Mostly played the classic mode.
I mentioned this in another article, but games taking so long to release nowadays really risks developers missing the zeitgeist. This game may have began pre production when Overwatch was peak and while the game was being made, people kinda just moved on.
More incentive for developers to go their own way, I guess. Hopefully that inspires more creativity.
Redfall and Helldivers 2 are the exact study cases these publishers and developers need. One is an experienced single player game studio forced to go againts what they do best and follow the current trend. One makes improvements to what they previously done good.
Like you said, with how long it takes to make games nowaday it’s better to just do what you’re good at instead of forcefully following the trend anyway.
Path of Exile 2 pc, God of War pc and Astro PS5 were the best... rest of the show was meh
Yup, bring on SOCOM or Killzone without bullshit killstreaks or dozens of maps I already bought years ago. Is it really that hard to make this happen? Also weird I’d rather pay $70 for a well made game than a pay to win free to play. What has happened to this industry we love? Sigh.
I think there is a market for hyper realistic military games that isn't being served. But it has to be done in a way like Bodycam and Unrecord. Hyper realistic graphics. I think that is your next COD. But Sony of all people seem to be sleeping on that potential.
Exactly. I would've much preferred a new Killzone or SOCOM over Guardians of Overwatch.
Yeah, it's unfortunate that every shooter now seems to have magic powers. It would be really nice to have a military shooter with actual smooth gameplay/controls and no magic powers, perks, kill streaks, death streaks, progression systems, etc. I know there are milsims but those tend to have much clunkier controls. I know that's what those people want, and I'm fine with that existing, but it would be great to have a shooter with fluid controls/movement but none of the nonsense. Probably won't happen ever again though.
There are so many of those games as well. Escape from Tarkov, Insurgency, Six Days in Fallujah, Squad and others. It's not like the industry lacks the type of games you are referring to. I play the COD games with my friends and it would be fun if there was another game that felt as polished, and crucially for me and my friends, a hardcore mode so it doesn't feel bullet spongey but still has the speed that the other titles I mentioned don't have. Don't have the patience for those games :P. Concord didn't impress but I'm a wait and see type of guy.
Strange how 15 to 20 years back boots on the ground was a oversaturated market and now no one not even cod with its Cheech and Chong snoop dog DLC is making those style games
When I first saw the trailer, at first I thought it would have been like Borderlands meets No Mans Sky. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case...
I don't understand why they think this game deserves an unnecessarily long CGI story trailer if it's just team based shooter game.. It reminds me of those mobile city building games where they show commercials of ancient knights and warriors fighting each other in epic battles but the game is just you clicking "Build" and then waiting 8 hours for something to finish unless you spend $10 to finish it right away.
i feel like it's just going to be the same gameplay loop with an occasional character intro style cutscene to give lore
Just shows you what people want
If Concord doesn't do well and doesn't grab players attention then I don’t think the game will last long
Also it will heavily impact upcoming GaaS titles like Haven studios Fairgame$
Sony bought Firewalk Studios and Haven right off the bat so a lot is riding on this game.
AstroBot was the best thing at the State of Play.. i was like heyy look a video game.
My thoughts as well. I liked astro bot and silent hill 2. The rest I didn't feel alot of interest in.
Silent Hill 2 looks pretty good to me but many seem to disagree. The graphics look good enough to me I don’t care if it’s cutting edge graphics it looks good enough. Combat looks a little old school but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing to me if don’t right.
Ballad of Antara and Where Winds Meet look good to me as well. I like action rpg adventure type games. Ballad especially had some cool looking boss fights and I like the aesthetic of both.
Not sure if its too late to change Concord to a game similar to Helldiver 2/No Man Sky combination game.
Not surprising in the least bit. There has yet been a mediocre Astro Bot experience.
Given the talent at Firewalk (loads of ex-Bungie/ Respawn/ Treyarch devs) I was surprised at how unoriginal Concord looked... It's going to play well, it's going to be slick, but it just looks like games we've seen before?
Concord is for casuals. I couldn’t care less about it but I understand why they are having it made. It looks well made and all that but it’s not my type of game. Astro Bot looks great. I also want to play the Ballad of whatever the The Wind whatever game. I forget the titles as I was busy during the show but those looked good and my type of games. Silent Hill 2 looked pretty good but won’t know until I play it.
There only one game like Astro Bot, there’s a handful of games just like Concord out right now. Hopefully the market speaks with its wallet and this game fails hard so we stop getting these PG13 shooter clones.
Grow up. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. It costs you nothing to pay it no mind.
If others enjoy it then so be it, let them enjoy it.
Concord could've turned out to be a really dope game if single player was the focus. But nope they went pvp. Shame the only Sci fi thing Sony got going on and it looks whack
AstroBot just looks like more of the first game with potentially even less nostalgia kicks. I don't think it has addressed the linear gameplay much and it definitely hasn't expanded in a way to take on a Mario game.
For me the idea of Concord would have been more than an Ow2 style of game... Maybe be like an extraction shooter where you have missions meanwhile fighting another team having their missions and the last one it's the same for both teams and they have to fight and epic battle to finally win the match... Idk something more spicy than 5vs5 because lol.
And let's be honest, Astro Bot trailer was a masterpiece in a sense of rhythm, showing of the game and just F-U-N(SpongeBob music), and oh wow.. that what people want from a videogame(suits exploding their heads with that revelation).
Lol so instead of chasing the hero shooter fad they should have chased the extraction shooter fad? As boring as Concord looks, at least it isn't another extraction shooter.
To be honest mix some of those things, I'm not saying a 100% copy... But showing that "we are not overwatch of the Galaxy" doesn't give so much hope looking at the same modes that Ow gives... Or make something, even interactive stages that pressing a button and a giant ad comes down hitting everything, idk.. more spice.
It's a PvP game that most PS5 owners have no interest in. Astro Bot is a campaign action platform game that has most PS5 owners interests because of the first game. I think if Concord would have been a campaign game with multi-player PvE co-op like Remnant more folks would have had some interest.
Astro Bot is a really good game. The other is a 5v5 PvP GaaS, it's not going to last.
The first screenshot of Concord looked enticing, but the games nasty Marvel aesthetic is a huge turnoff. And no spaceships? Why did they tease it with a spaceship?
But I could imagine it being popular, looks like something that could be popular. Looks obnoxious.
Yeh I wanted killzone in space,
Got overwatch, but 5 years late
Lets see, if it really is made by bungee and call of duty ex developers it will at least have good gun mechanics/ aiming etc
I'm sure that it will have solid tech and gameplay. It's bound to with that team.
Astro Bot deserves that 99% like ratio. The previous two games were brilliant.
Concord is not for me, I'm not big into competitive multi-player and having to spend months learning every trick and tactic to keep up with the daily playing community. I personally prefer online co-op (such as a horde mode) over competitive play.
Astro Bot is actually one of my favorite PS5 games. I replay it often. Im excited for this sequel
Since they don't seem to be listening and are insistent on going down this path I guess Sony is going to have to learn the hard way what people want and what they don't. Never a good idea to move away from what made you successful in the gaming space. More single player please Sony and much less pvp gaas.
The only multiplayers gaas they released has broken all Playstation records.
Sony is doing great. They bought some studios that will focus on gaas/pvp etc while keeping the Single Player studios.
Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac, Bend is still there and now add Team Asobi.
Nothing has been lost, just added.
People has been blaming Sony for only delivering over the should third person single player campaigns.
Now Sony have a foot in almost every genre, without taking the single player games away from is.
You don't have to like every single game, but Sony has a responsibility to make a at least one game for everyone who bought a Playstation. For some, that might be a "Overwatch' clone, for some it's Baseball etc
I'm happy that the portfolio of Playstation Studio games are getting wider.
We know PlayStation Studios dev teams have been pulled away from making single player games to make gaas games and we know that we haven't heard about anything substantial from Sony's first party outside of maybe Wolverine and we know there's a vocal majority that have no interest in pvp/gaas games. Just becasue Helldivers broke records doesn't mean they all will. I don't mind their portfolio expanding either but it would be helpful for them to show or at least talk about their AAA single player games in the works so their fan base knows they haven't shifted focus from what they are known for and for what PS owners primarily choose PlayStation for.
When AstroBot is the hot ticket from a State of Play... Sony's game leadership needs a hard look in the mirror.
Feel bad for the devs who are passionate about their project but damn 5v5 multiplayer game it's just not it for me 👎🏽👎 27997;
I suspect almost everyone was disappointed when it turned out Concord wasn't a big budget SP shooter. It's odd how the suits don't seem to understand that. Their premium SP games sell great but they've gone all out on multiplayer tripe.
Hopefully there will be an abrupt change in direction following certain flops. By all means attempt a couple of major GaaS a year but keep them as a side project.
It's things like this that renew my faith in humanity.
Having said that, If Sony is going to make an online shooter then I'd rather they try competing with Battlefield/Hell Let Loose/Battlebit Remastered. I have zero interest in Overwatch. Tried it and it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Astro >>> concord imo. Sony see the writing on the wall and do of these with everything else guys.
I'm starting to think sony tryna give Microsoft some type of headstart on a new sales season with the live service failures they been too focused on lol but Microsoft like nope 🙅🏾♂️ lemme still try ruining xbox even more🤣
Concord devs have nothing too worry about. The game will probably suprise.
And the dislikes is actually a good thing, people lower their expectations, then when the game releases and is good, you will see a lot of people and youtubers saying its great.
Concord would have been much better as a single-player game. Imagine if that cinematic was from the campaign.
I like Sony but Concord is not it. i hope it flops so we can stop all these GAAS shenanigans and go back to single player games.
Concord looks like a f2p game. Why would you buy this game when can play the same thing but free and probably better...
If it's not going to be ftp they better be bringing something better then what's already out there.
I hope PlayStation starts getting the message. We don't want all these GAAS games, and now this games probably gonna flop, and they'll dissolve the studio. This cycle needs to end, it's killing talent
Some gamers can be very pathetic and insufferable. I recall when some people claimed Helldivers 2, would be dead in a few weeks, that nobody wanted it, that it looked boring, yet we see how that turned out. What is wrong with waiting for a game to come out before making all these claims? And why do some gamers get so triggered/worked up when a game they don't like is made?
Concord looked like Sony had been watching everything going on with suicide squad and said.... "gimme some if that!".
Overwatch from temu.com with the most generic woke looking characters you can imagine. The dislikes are hardly surprising.
