Bethesda Has Harsh Words For Sony Over PlayStation's Cross-Play

On this week's dumpster fire edition of The Trophy Room: A PlayStation Podcast, hosts Joseph and Kyle talk about say Bethesda has harsh words for Sony. Even going far enough to say that games like Elder Scrolls: Legends wont be on PlayStation unless Sony changes their ways on Cross-play and cross-progression. Bethesda, seemingly dropping single player games like Dishonored, for a multiplayer focus. TimeSplitters is hopefully alive again, and in the arms on THQ Nordic. Doom Eternal gets us hyped, yet slightly worried. Lastly, the gang talks about their thoughts on the Latest Red Dead Redemption news!

Bethesda has been anti-sony for over a decade. Releasing buggy games, whining over ps3/ps4 versions of their games. They will do anything MS asked them to do. lol

roadkillers2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

I am with Bethesda, why not make cross-play a thing? I understand Sony's stance, but if enough people are against their stance we will get crossplay. It is a shame that I want to play a free game with my friends, but have to pony up hundreds.

Edit: its not just that either, friends like Halo so they got an Xbox, I enjoy steam so i have PC, other guy enjoys Turismo so he got a PS4... One of my buddies has a Switch, but idk if that supports crossplay. Let us play together while your on top Sony, don't wait until you fall again to make huge changes (ps3).

zackeroniii2115d ago

Sony falling? Have you been under a rock? Check the statistics sony and ps4 is at the top of the food chain and I know for a fact it's only the people without a PS4 that's crying about crossplay...I'm not, and neither are other PS4 owners...it's a fake issue created by people who don't own one. A PS4 is cheaper than a PC and Xflop, sooooooo.....

sampsonon2115d ago

the only people against sony are people that made the mistake in buying an xbox.
PS owners could care less.

kayoss2115d ago

Play together? Most of the games you listed are exclusives to their respected console? How are you going to crossplay Gran Turismo with Xbox players??

BLAKHOODe2115d ago

Excellent perspective on the cross-play argument and I can relate. I play Fortnite on PS4 and Xbox One, because I have friends on each console and I like playing with ALL my friends, not just some of them. So I buy 2 BattlePasses every season, doing twice as many challenges just to keep up with my friends.

Of course, people who don't have this problem, who are happy with what friends they have on their system of choice won't care, nor even consider their own situation could change some day and they may end up in a similar situation, which is why it's smart to fight for cross-play NOW while it's a hot subject instead of later.

BLAKHOODe2115d ago

@kayoss

He was pointing out that some of his friends are on one console because of exclusives, while other friends are on another console because of it's exclusives. And that he would have to buy both consoles in order to play with all his friends; particularly in multiplatform games.

DarXyde2115d ago

If enough people were against their stance, sales would have suffered and prompted Sony to react. That has yet to happen, and i think as long as they continue to make great games and offer great content on their consoles, they probably won't ever need to.

I cannot speak for everyone, but i really don't care about cross play. I get why people want it, but it's such a nonissue in my opinion. I had zero expectations of it happening on any platform. It's cool to see it happening, but as I've said in another comments section, I feel it is a feature people will request and rarely use. I also think it's far more complicated for Sony; PS4 shares quite a bit of its library with Xbox One. I'm not sure what kind of demand that much intersectionality will place on the network(s), but I expect that there will be demands and pressure on developers to take advantage of this and maintain server activity. I'm not sure this is rightly feasible, to be honest. I imagine cross play with Switch should be manageable. In that case, Sony can do it, but again, not something i would take advantage of. If you do, more power to you, but like I said, i doubt it'll be as popular as critics may suggest.

My two cents.

jimbost792115d ago

Thats the thing tho mate, enough people arent against it. The vast majority dont know or care about it.
Microsoft charges people to play free games don't they?

Atanasrikard2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

@kayoss

Read his words carefully. He is talking about his situation. He has friends who have xbox, he has a pc, another friend has PS4 and one of them has a switch. He isn't talking about those games specifically. He is however, talking about being able to play with those friends in other games.

@sampsonon

I was against MS last gen when they did it. I am against Sony this gen while they do it. I am more than happy with my purchase of an xbox. I am sorry you are such a fanboy.

Kumakai2115d ago

Because Sony can do no wrong to Kool-aid drinking fanboys.

zombiewombie2115d ago

They do have crossplay. Generally with pc.

AspiringProGenji2115d ago

Yeah Sony. People didn’t support your product but still want the ability to play with Ps4 owners. It is not Sony’s fault your friends pur Halo first than playing with you, or the other way around

BlackTar1872115d ago

@blakhood

So what? Stop with this entitlement crap.

Skull5212115d ago

Well the good news is Sony has strong first party games, they’ll need it as they loose 3rd party support as companies find they can’t offer the experiences and features they want on the PlayStation platform.

UnHoly_One2115d ago

You guys need to realize that this site is so far up Sony's rectum that they can't see the light at the end of the tunnel anymore.

Go ANYWHERE else on the internet and see what other communities have to say about cross play.

Everyone that isn't a blind fanboy wants them to do it.

Silly gameAr2115d ago

@Un-holy one
Can you be more specific in what sites to go to to see people up in arms about cross play, because anywhere else I go , it's mostly a meh on the subject.

And, this site definitely isn't up Sony's butt, but you can keep pretending that thats the case if it helps you sleep at night.

Theknightofnights2115d ago

@Silly gameAR

You really think there isn't a large preference for Sony on this site? We can monitor this pretty easily with just the upvote process.

If one writes a comment "Xbox sucks" or "Nintendo sucks" (or any combination therein) they'll receive a copious amount of agrees (and often more agrees than disagrees) before eventually being flagged.

If one writes a comment "Playstation sucks" it will receive a HUGE amount of disagrees (outnumbers the agrees 10 to 1 easy) before being flagged.

There was an article written by 10th Rider with a few examples of this. Just like Nintendo Everything has a Nintendo bias among it's community, this site has a Sony bias.

PurpHerbison2115d ago

Everything comes full circle. Sony will eventually fall. The new leader will capitalize on their mistakes and get comfortable. While comfortable that new leader will start making mistakes and Sony will slide back in again. Rinse. Repeat.

roadkillers2115d ago

Look at my disagrees and agrees, for a community that is largely behind Sony there are a decent amount of people finding the lack of crossplay an issue. The ratio is above 25%. The other group doesnt care which way, so why not work with us. Customers, literally the 89 who disagreed with me have 0 to lose, but more to gain from crossplay. It just doesn make sense to go against it unless you own Sony stock.

AspiringProGenji2115d ago

Every site you go you find most not caring. You @Unholy keep accusing this site of being pro sony with those nasty words of yours as usual. Why are you still here?

Moreover this game is nothing to be making s big fuss about. Even if Sony allowed it it won’t change nothing, or are people suddenly gonna care like with Minecraft?

neomahi2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

An Xbox fanboy wanting to see the demise of Sony would say this, not a legitimate gamer. It's an attempt to feel better about themself.

@Skull521

"...they’ll need it as they loose 3rd party support as companies find they can’t offer the experiences and features they want on the PlayStation platform."

LOL wake up, kid! stop dreaming. can you please give us just 1 multiplat game that has sold more copies on the Xbone since they announced they openly support cross-play? just 1! anything? FYI, your internet is not playing or messing with you and your searches because there really is NONE!

and just because MS is desperate to expand their player pool by offering cross-play, all those 3rd parties are gonna skip the platform that is gonna sell their games the most?? LOL who would be so dumb?

Old_Prodigy2114d ago

NEWSFLASH!!! PS3 Outsold Xbox 360, time to rejoin reality. http://www.vgchartz.com/ana...

DarkKaine2114d ago

Not sure how you're getting downvotes but you're absolutely right.
Crossplay should be a thing and should have been a long time ago.
Anyone that doesn't agree is trying to defend their purchase for whatever reason and lack the ability to to understand that these practices are very anti-consumer.

Pickledpepper2114d ago

I have all xbox consoles I also have all ps consoles even all nintendo consoles apart from the n64 at the moment. I would like cross play please

Bethesda is biting the hand that feeds them. I'm surprised Bethesda is being so vocal. This tactic may well backfire on them. Are they just being the handmaiden of MS? I may just forgo FO76 completely now. Who cares about some CCG they are trying to push. Nobody really plays that game. CCG will continue to be dominated by Hearthstone and MTG,

ForeverTheGoat2115d ago

Lol biting the hand that feed them?....Lol okay

bluefox7552115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

Yeah, I doubt they're going to give up 80 million potential customers to make some dumb statement that only fanboys care about.

Eonjay2115d ago

Its not them that is talking. It is Microsoft through proxy.

-Foxtrot2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

Yup

Bethesda blamed the CELL and now we have the PS4 the still feel like they give Xbox special treatment.

Bethesda make their mouths go on this so much that if they were THIS bothered then they'd have rallied up a movement last gen to support Sony in getting Microsoft to do cross play then. Why didn't they said anything when it was trying to be done last gen? If more people spoke out then maybe we wouldn't have had this issue now.

I feel like they are only making their mouths go to divert attention from the criticism of hardcore Fallout fans who loved the single player experience and are ticked off with Fallout 76.

naruga2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

literally Bethesda shoud have been a 2 nd party for Xbox (i wonder how MS never cared to buy them or have exclusives with them)....everything they make is first Xbox and after it everything else...................the thing is that everything they release is up-down shit in gold cover (excpet Doom 2016 i think) ...Sony should NOT get bothered with idiots of industry ---just cut them off from the fanbase and see who is in pain.....even if their precious IP (for me isthe most overrated SHT ever) Elder Scrolls 6 goes Xbox- exclusive/first on, PS doesnt lose anything , is not PS3-360 era anymore , games like MOnster Hunter form Japan Rip apart shits like Skyrim

Jinger2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

How have they treated PS4 less than Xbox One? I mean they were nice enough to make a Skyrim and DOOM port for PSVR. As well as supporting PS4 Pro upgrades for DOOM and Fallout 4.

Also, it's not like they were the only ones who had issues with the CELL...

Edit: Also, it's not Bethesda's fault that Sony had more strict rules with mods which caused problems for Fallout 4.

Mr_Writer852115d ago

"Why didn't they said anything when it was trying to be done last gen?"

They had very few (if any) multiplayer games.

Fallout 3 and NV didn't have multiplayer.

Oblivion and Skyrim didn't have multiplayer.

Did Dishonored or Rage?

Where as this gen they have TESO, Fallout 76, Doom and now this card game.

rainslacker2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

@Mr Writer

yeah, but they didn't make a fuss about cross play with Elder Scrolls online, which released well before MS decided to get on board.

The reason it likely didn't was because it was on Xbox as well, and unlike FFXIV where they kept it off Xbox because it would have been difficult to manage the separation of the user bases, they just kept every platform for itself.

So where were they for that game, which likely would have benefited much more for being cross play with PC than their Fallout games, even the MP focused one. Or was that Sony's fault too, despite releasing 2 years prior to Phil ever having the words cross play cross his lips.

I think Bethesda didn't make a fuss about it because at the time of TESO release, or pre-launch marketing, there was still some belief from the publishers who loved MS that MS would actually have an exceptional generation and stand toe to toe, or even outdo Sony.

So, when they come out now saying how Sony is all bad, and it'll be a problem for Sony, its kind of hard to take them seriously when they haven't been the paradigms of fighting for the feature until it became convenient for MS.

gangsta_red2115d ago

@Rainslacker

So basically you're saying we can't take Bethesda seriously because they didn't make a fuss about it a long time ago?

This can't be the argument you're making? When is an acceptable timeline to take a company or a person's stance serious then? Mr Writer is correct, they are just now getting into more multiplayer type games than they have in the past. So of course now they have an opinion on crossplay, not when this type of crossplay between consoles was only a gamer pipe dream.

"...became convenient for MS."

Yours and others only reasoning seems to be this deep conspiracy theory that MS and Bethesda are working hand in hand to make Sony look bad.

Where is the the actual facts that Bethesda is doing MS's bidding? This sure didn't come up when they put Skyrim on PSVR.

Are other third party devs also working for MS to try and undermine Sony? Why hasn't this been exposed by the larger media outlets? Or are they also being bought and paid for by MS? If MS and Bethesda were in such diabolical relations then why does Bethesda continue to support the PS brand?

It's amazing how fast people turn on a company when that company starts saying mean words about Sony.

rainslacker2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

I'm saying I can't take them seriously because they spent most of last gen not having much good to say about Sony. They act like this is a big deal now, yet didn't bat an eye over trying to get it when they made ESO. And most of all, i'd say I don't take them seriously, because in no stretch of the imagination do I see them forgoing releasing their games on Sony's platform because of this issue. The only reason they might do that is if MS wrote them a rather sizable check.

With the recent comment, they didn't exactly make their case why it would be dire for Sony to not acquiesce on this issue.

When is an appropriate time to take someone serious? I'd say its when they stop posturing, and actually stand behind their convictions they seem to hold important. Bethesda needs to fix its buggy games before they worry about bringing platforms together.

"Yours and others only reasoning seems to be this deep conspiracy theory that MS and Bethesda are working hand in hand to make Sony look bad. "

I'm not one to prescribe to massive conspiracy theories. I'm not saying MS bid them to make such a comment. But when 4 years ago Bethesda didn't bat an eye over splitting up the community over ESO....one of its biggest money makers....it seems rather convienant that now its dire for Sony because they won't allow it with other platforms. Obviously, the current climate surrounding the issue made them think this, which is even more reason to take them seriously, because they only seem to care now because its a hot topic issue, and not because they cared in the past.

chiefJohn1172114d ago

The sad part is ppl like Naruga is seeing it from a company standpoint and not a gamer standpoint. Head so far up Sony behind he's against gamer friendly practices if it means to defend Sony. SMH, Madden crossplay would be cool and appreciated

"They will do anything MS asked them to"

And what exactly has MS asked them to do? Was it to port their games to the PS brand? How about a Skyrim version for PSVR, did MS ask them to do that also?

Anti Sony? How? The cell processer was legit hard for some developers, especially ones that made third party games. It's always funny to read these type of comments.

BlackTar1872115d ago

Why is Fallout 4 so much more buggy on ps4? Have they even fixed all those issues yet? i won't touch on the crap that is Bethesda PS3 support.

gangsta_red2115d ago

@BlackTar187

Fallout 4 was buggy on Xbox also and even still is this because MS asked Bethesda to make their games buggy on PS4?

BlackTar1872115d ago

Don't think I said Ms made them do anything. I simply stated as fact that Beth takes little care of the Sony customers compared to others. I won't pretend ps3 had some issues that were linked to architecture and beth didn't care to learn the system enough to fix them but what we have here is a trend. So when beth threatens Sony I find it's hilarious.

Imalwaysright2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

BlackTar187

The same way that Sony didn't care about every single developer in this industry and how it would affect their games when they put on the market a console that not only drove up development costs but also increased development time? A console that was made hard to develop for on purpose? A console that Cerny himself said it had issues and he knew it in 2007 (seriously, that guy doesn't get the recognition he deserves).

Bethesda games buggy on Sony's consoles? LMAO games made with the creation engine are buggy in every platform. In fact if you go to nexus the unnoficial patch for fallout 4 is the in top 5 most dowloaded mods and for skyrim its the 6th.

I know that PS fanboys love to play the victim but this is taking things to another level. If there is a conspiracy between Bethesda and MS prove it with facts.

gamer78042115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

while you are right that Bethesda hasn't been too keen on Sony, I like to base my decisions on whether an argument is good or bad, not based on who it is coming from.

In this case the argument is good, cross play is good for developers and gamers. Blind loyalty is not going to help push the gaming market forward into the future.

kevnb2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

They just do whatever microsoft wants pr wise, this even includes bashing the pc platform which has always brought them more sales than xbox. Now you see them do the same with playstation, another platform that makes them more money than xbox.

TGG_overlord2115d ago

It's still fun as hell to hear their whine every year though.

Betheseda needs to take a backseat, and shut the trap.

frostypants2115d ago

This. Remember the godawful Skyrim port for PS3 that Bethesda made next to no viable effort to fix for literally years?

rainslacker2115d ago

They aren't opposed to taking Sony's money to promote RDR2 though are they?

ps3vita4life2115d ago

rainslacker2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

rainslacker2115d ago

I have nothing against their games, other than they are buggy a lot of times. I don't really care for the company too much, but I do generally like their attitudes when talking to the community. not always though. however, then they do stuff like this, and it makes me shake my head. I expect hyperbole and what not from random forum goers, but these kinds of statements which claim a dire situation which you know won't come to pass are just stupid and immature from an industry professional.

Old_Prodigy2114d ago

It's a good thing that they're going the multiplayer route (for them at least) because it sounds like a good time to go fishing for some good bethesda loot in the pirate bay going forward.

PETE19852114d ago (Edited 2114d ago )

Bethesda are one of the few studios that have enough influence in the market to force change. I believe (in terms of average review score) they are one of the most successful single publishers.
They are a successful business, they are in the industry to make money and all decisions made will be to that end. We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes at the moment but Bethesda will not be ‘calling Sony out’ on a whim. This is a planned strategy that no one but Bethesda knows the details of.

rainslacker2114d ago

Epic has much more influence in the industry, and they've been vocal about cross play. They aren't as petty as Bethesda is here to make idle threats though.

Bethesda can calculate all they want, but if they have to resort to going to the media in a passive aggressive fashion, then they aren't going to get much done. The big wigs in the industry can just as easily call up those of other companies and achieve a lot more than what Bethesda did here. If Sony was still being stubborn afterwards, then maybe they could resort to such measures to try and put pressure on them, but ultimately, Sony still isn't going to change anything if they haven't already.

I'd rather know exactly why the two companies can't work together, or at least a vague reason, or if they've even talked about it yet. This finger pointing and rampant speculation in the press and community is getting really old IMO. Realistically, the only excuse we've gotten so far is from Sony, who's said its a moderation issue...in a rather lackluster PR statement that really didn't explain the situation very well

If I am Shawn or Shu I would say : Ok, then dont release your game and quit, but dont come in a year begging me to do something for you

kayoss2115d ago

PS4 multi plat games sells almost 3:1 against xbox. So if Bethesda want to play tough guy, they will learn very fast the hard way that the biggest market holder is nothing to trifle with.

EDKICK2115d ago

greywolf392115d ago

Uhmmm reseslling games affair, just maybe... you know

EDKICK2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

@greywolf39
If you really knew anything about that situation beyond the clickbait and the headlines you'll know the only issue Bethesda had is him referring to the game as new which while still in the package wasn't new. He could have done anything to the game/case and resealed it and since he was selling it as new it would have looked bad on Bethesda. People blew that out of proportion for headlines imo.

r2oB2114d ago

@edkick

And yet Bethesda has no issues with GameStop unsealing copies and selling them as new. I have personally purchased “new” unsealed games from GameStop.

And no, had the seller tampered with the game it would not have made Bethesda look bad. People would be pissed at the seller or the marketplace (I.e. Amazon if they didn’t help the buyer).

Every PlayStation Studios game available now on Windows PC

Windows Central writes: "Many PlayStation Studios games that are ported to PC get dedicated PS5 DualSense support, which allows users to experience haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support without actually having to own a PS5.

According to Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, it's still the company's intent to launch the bigger single-player games on PS5 first, before later bringing the games to PC. This might not be the case for multiplayer games however, which are considered okay to launch simultaneously on console and PC."

My guess is after god of war. Probably last of us 2 that's a almost 4 year old game now and by the time it's released on pc it will be more than 4 years old or close to 5.

Elda14h ago

Every old Playstation game that is now on PC.

shinoff21835h ago

Right. I definitely see what a headlined from a website named windows central was trying to do though. It's cute little wordplay to help out the green box

Flewid6384h ago

Are PlayStation games no longer good or worth playing once they are old?

Elda3h ago

I'm guessing my comment went over your head.

XiNatsuDragnel13h ago

Good at least they can sell hardware

Trying to push players over from PC to console is a terrible idea, PlayStation

As PlayStation announces its new strategy to encourage PC users to choose PS5 it is a bitter-sweet moment for PC gamers.

Christopher1d 10h ago

I mean, it's a business based on hardware market. Do we expect them to not even try? It's not like Nintendo doesn't do the same by not putting any games on PC and Microsoft until recently did the same. I don't care what they attempt, as long as they don't abuse the community or lie about their goals/requirements.

Will it work? Not likely. Should we care? No. Let them waste their time, it doesn't affect anything.

RaidenBlack1d 10h ago

let them try ... at the end of the day, we get few extra PC games ... yay ... and also promotes game preservation via PC ... so double yay.

LordoftheCritics17h ago

If only Playstation games provided the ease of pc gaming features.

Primary being very few PS games support m/kb.

Christopher10h ago

If only PC games supported controllers more. Main reason I play primarily on console. So many games have shit support on PC. Playing Dark Envoy now, and it's quite frustrating since I have to switch to keyboard during cut scenes just to make sure advancing conversation doesn't also auto-select a decision. Let alone it's quite rough to select between characters and inventory screens are bad bad bad.

Anywho, similar complaints for both I find. But, I 100% agree that both PC and consoles should support both as best as possible.

crazyCoconuts5h ago

PS may push more kb support in the future to get more PC converts, we'll see.

Flewid6384h ago

As someone with a high end PC, I feel like the ease is on PS5. Too many PC games are a troubleshooting nightmare, which few people have the time for when all you want to do is pop in a game & play it.

LordoftheCritics9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

I don't think you understand what I mean by the lack of m/kb support on PS.

Over a thousand titles have PS controller support on PC.

Not even 30 titles have m/kb support on PS5.

Once you are done with the single player title, you'll go back to playing your daily shooter/looter/mmo etc which the pc gamer has mastered with their mouse and keyboard.
Why would any pc gamer make the switch?

jznrpg29m ago(Edited 29m ago)

PC is secondary to PlayStation for them. Mouse and keyboard would affect development. Live service will have it but most single player games aren’t going to have it as PC is not the focus

I wish them the best of luck.

But PC players are often a patient bunch, many will even wait for Epic launcher exclusivity to end until a game comes to Steam.

If they didnt buy the console when its games were exclusive, why would they do it now theyre not?

MrNinosan19h ago

Way more do than you probably think.

ravens5219h ago

All you need is that one game that'll make a few switch at a time. Like a game a PC player REALLY wants.

porkChop6h ago

It just doesn't work that way though. Plenty of the best games ever made were never available on PC. That didn't make PC gamers buy consoles to play them. This kind of strategy has never worked in the past and it won't work now. It's fine for PS to hold their games back and release on PC later, but to think that will boost console sales is wishful thinking. All this will accomplish is some double dipping, which is obviously good for business.

JackBNimble6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

People aren't going to switch from pc to ps5, why would anyone do that for a game?
Most sony exclusives aren't all that to begin with, and pc has the option to upgrade what they want when they want it. Having access to some ps5 games, gamepass and steam.

Thinking this would happen is naive

outsider162415h ago

I mean if there's 10 million pc gamers out there...getting atleast just 1 million from there is probably a good thing..right?

romulus2313h ago

PC players are not a monolith, I don't know why people keep thinking they speak for the entirety of all PC gamers like they all know each other personally. You think out of the millions of PC gamers not one single person will be impatient?Well Sony is willing to bet there will be. Why would they do it now? People's feelings change and new PC gamers come along all the time that may also feel different about waiting, that's why.

-Foxtrot1d 9h ago

PC gamers are just too patient and loyal to their gaming set ups, something they've spent a lot of money on to perfect. They have backlogs of games which many never get round to finishing or get round to at all and will always have other multiplatform releases to keep them going.

Over the many years Sony has published so many awesome titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamous, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams, Puppeteer, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Motor Storm, God of War, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne

If none of those games BEFORE all these PC ports convinced a hardcore PC gamer to get a PS5 console then why on Earth would porting them them to PC now make any difference? All PC gamers now know 100% is that they just have to be patient, which they are good at anyway to get a PS5 game 2 years later.

I get GaaS games or multiplayer focused titles but if people really want to play these games they'd have gotten a PS console years ago.

Crows9016h ago

Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer.

Not sure why people are obsessing over his comment...it seems pretty simple to me.

He will do all he can to entice gamers to move to his ecosystem. As you say....exclusives existing hasn't moved many gamers over. But if they get to try them and love the games then they might change their mind about waiting 2 years.

We're in an echo chamber on this site...I've Personally seen people with Xbox and PC setups but no PlayStation. I've also seen people with small PC setups but no console. Not every pc gamer invests thousands and many may decide to put one in the living room.

They're not looking to convince all of players to buy a PlayStation...just a few...and really it is just a PR statement after all...they have to give a reason why single player won't release day 1....not to mention they also have to ensure current PlayStation gamers don't jump ship to PC. It goes both ways and they're ignoring the big L by putting any of their games off their platform.

anast15h ago

"Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer."

Right here

Kakashi Hatake15h ago

PC gamers think tomorrow is promised. Sorry, don't have time for that.

Michiel198914h ago

it's not just about loyalty or sunk cost, pc is an open platform while consoles are closed platforms. If you for example want to mod, you will play on pc, no question about it. Also if you like indie games, steam is a fucking goldmine for that. I've been playing a lot of indie games over the last years and there just seems to be an endless amount of them on steam. Also not having games locked to a certain fps is a prettty big deal for me and I assume a lot of other pc players.

Walalon13h ago

And don't forget steam sales, you can get a ton of games on an awesome price.

badz1494h ago

@Walalon

Sony has been doing sales constantly on the PS Store nowadays.

jznrpg19m ago(Edited 17m ago)

@Walalon Steam sales are basically the same as PS sales. I was going to buy a Steam Deck and I heard about these Steam sales but the games I was interested in were not any cheaper. Indie games were cheap and older AAA were cheap but the same can be said for PS store sales. I didn’t end up getting the Steam Deck as there weren’t any games that I wanted to play that wasn’t already on PS and prices aren’t much different

romulus2312h ago

And how do you know out of the millions of PC gamers that not one single person ever went ahead and bought a PlayStation console for one or more of those games? People keep speaking for the entirety of millions of PC gamers like they know them all personally. Here's one example for you, I'm currently typing on a recently purchased PC that cost me over twenty five hundred dollars and is more than capable of running any game including Sony exclusives that come to PC and yet I still bought a PS5 so apparently I'm not patient or loyal enough to my set up, hope it's not mad at me for not being loyal.

jznrpg24m ago

Some of those people will consider getting a PS5 some wont. I was a PC gamer for a long time and I’m a console only gamer now. Everyone’s different.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 19m ago
helicoptergirl1d 8h ago

Who cares? Then just stay on PC and play the waiting game. No big deal. Sony wins in the end anyway.

Number1TailzFan1d 8h ago

I mean if there's any single player Sony games that I actually want that aren't on PC then I would buy said console to play them on. But the ones that I like that aren't on PC are few and far between anyway so no loss for me.

If I game, it's usually multiplayer titles, otherwise I like playing around with some other software.

Amplitude10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Astro Bot is the game that just did it for me. I'm gonna have to grab a PS5 again for that.

I did this for Ratchet Rift Apart too but ended up selling the PS5 after getting my plat. Rebought it on PC and other than GoW Ragnarok and Horizon FW (which eventually I could get anyway), I haven't had a reason to downgrade my graphics, controller features, ease of recording, and increase my game costs and monthly subscriptions throughout this entire generation.

I play on a TV with a controller but this has been the absolute worst console gen for both consoles. Never in my life thought I'd be a PC gamer but I've been spoiled by the cheap costs, cross-platform controllers and mostly the unbelievably useful Steam controller config.

Former Activision studio Toys for Bob partners with Xbox to publish its first game as an indie

Former Activision studio Toys for Bob partners with Xbox to publish its first game as an indie. This is something of a homecoming, as Microsoft owns Activision.

Very very early in development. Still, fantastic news!

Let´s GO!!!

Lightning771d 5h ago

I guess.

How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )

At least it wouldn't be MS of all ppl destroying them.

MS really should let go Tango go like they did TFB here.

darthv721d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

one was under Bethesda (Tango) the other under Activision (TFB). Clearly each one handled the separations of their subordinates differently.

Obscure_Observer1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

"How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )"

Perhaps because Zenimax and ABK handles such matters differently based on their own internal policies as "independent" publishers.

Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future. Which could also be the reason why they ensured an exclusive partnership with TFB and its new game, before anyone else.

Sad and disgusting. But it is what it is.

Lightning771d ago (Edited 1d ago )

"Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future."

MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB.

It's inexcusable, they have options on how to handle studios they don't want anymore with killing jobs. Not just MS but the rest of the industry also.

Sad and disgusting sure how many will get shut down next year or this year even?

I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another.

Obscure_Observer17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Imo, MS separated from TFB because they didn´t had a game associated with Xbox yet, unlike Tango.

"I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another."

Fair enough. It was indeed an epic dumb move from them to close Tango.

Still, all to be forgotten, like always have. This is not the first time a big publisher shuts down a beloved and/or successful studio out of nowhere and certainly won´t be the last. Do you remember Lionhead? Do you remember Evolution Studios? Yeah... both were beloved studios and yet, those companies kill those studios in q blink of an eye and got away with it.

anast14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

The studio boss made some money from this transaction. Once the game releases, the studio will get chopped up.

-Foxtrot1d 7h ago

Manages to buy their freedom especially after all the shit Microsoft has been doing with its studios lately

...

Goes right back to them as partners.

Okaaaaaay...

darthv721d 5h ago

Id venture a guess that TFB working directly with MS was a better outcome than working through Activision to get to MS.

VersusDMC1d 3h ago

From the article...

"Toys for Bob spun out as an indie back in February after Microsoft instituted sweeping layoffs that impacted 86 employees, which was more than half of the staff"

I doubt those 86 employees enjoyed the Microsoft experience over Activisions.

Inverno1d 2h ago

MS shuts down studios because of lack of resources and then helps these guys by giving em resources. Also MS is what forced them to buy their freedom in the first place? What kind of logic 😂

Chevalier23h ago

The best thing is that the company that is worth $3 trillion and owns the company instead of Xbox lacks resources. How the hell does a company worth $3 trillion making a measly $70 billion purchase they 'can't' support. Lol

BlindMango5h ago

The reason they would need to "partner with Microsoft" is simply to make a game that's part of a franchise that Microsoft owns. Meaning they're probably going to make a new Spyro game - they're still an independent studio, but are making a game in a franchise that Microsoft owns. It's kind of like Remedy partnering with Rockstar to be able to make the Max Payne remakes.

shinoff21835h ago

It was probably the deal to get released from Ms

Xbox’s gaming division seems to still function as 3 semi-autonomous sub-divisions, Xbox Studios, Bethesda and ABK. The three main sub-divisions can seemingly shut down or build studios and set up partnerships independently. This would explain why Bethesda can recently shutdown studios, while ABK spins off one studio, while building a new one. Plus, Toys for Bob could be spun off by ABK, only to immediately re-partner with Microsoft.

Chevalier23h ago

That's absolutely 💯 BS. Any sane 'autonomous' company would NOT put their games on Gamepass day 1 like COD will lose probably billions.

Also they're all under Xbox game studios so any autonomy is an illusion.

PhillyDonJawn11h ago

No, I'm sure MS can and does step in when they want something done specifically but I'm also sure they let them also work independently

shinoff21835h ago

I highly highly doubt this. Ms controls all. The guys aren't gonna be allowed to just shut something down like that without approval. No way

Elda23h ago

Either a kiddie game or something uninteresting.

Obscure_Observer17h ago

Don´t worry. You won´t be playing it anyway since their next game will possible be a next gen Xbox console game.

Elda16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Don't worry about my comments.

PhillyDonJawn11h ago

Right probably something like astrobot

romulus2310h ago

Nah he said "uninteresting", lots of people are interested in Astro Bot.

Elda8h ago

Never Astro Bot. Astro Bot looks better than any exclusive released on XB this entire generation & believe there hasn't been much.

Asplundh8h ago

Crash 4 was good, so I'm hopeful.

PhillyDonJawn6h ago

Hey you said that about SOT and looks like many ppl on PS is playing it. You also found bugsnax interesting ffs your opinion hold no weight lol.

Elda6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Bugsnax is BS, tried it & quickly deleted it. It's a game that fits right on Gamepass. PS5 owners that are probably playing the boring SOT you could count on one hand. LMAO!!...don't try to come for me.

PhillyDonJawn4h ago

So you admit bugsnax interested you enough to try? 😂 someone gotta call you out on the foolishness.
