MS needs to deal with those shortages fast since IU is about to release, and the 360 demand will likely sky rocket again

It was the entire M$ distribution for the country. They won't have any more shipments to retailers there until next month.

1.6 - 360 shortages ?? lol
I don't believe Microsoft is having shortages issues in Japan. The system has been out for three years. They sold 25000+ last week and 7200 this week (which about what they sell weekly over there) that's 32200+ systems sold in two weeks.

1.7 - Shortage?
You can't be serious... 24k last week and 7k this week = a total sell out in ALL of Japan?
How thick can you really be? MS needs to drop the 360 to around the ps2 price in Japan if they want to stand a chance.

I must ask, do people actually buy games for the PS3?

so the people who disagree don`t think people are buying games for the PS3? Or they disagree with a question? This place is confusing sometimes.

How can people disagree with you? IU is a Jrpg that will appeal to the japanese audience as much or possibly better than ToV!

So much unnecessary hate for a console is a sad thing!

while you never can trust these, you have to admit that it is plausable, why would shops overstock on 360's? considering "no-one" is buying it why would they? have a look here http://translate.google.com... even the arcade's sold out... something must be going on unless... 'ms in a desperate attempt to control low sale damage, bought all remaining boxes to create a shortage crisis' haha whatever you think guys...

Well this has nothing to do with shortages, it is just the cold hard facts of the lack of 360 popularity. I told people this would happen - so did quite a few other people with common sense.

it sold pretty damn good it being on the 360 in japan and all,in it life time(if it stays exclusive) it should break well over 1 million.

Blue Dragon sold more than TOV in it's first week and pushed more consoles too. It ended up less than 300,000 total units sold worldwide to date.

But ratio to ratio, the drop from first to second week is about the same. However, the fact that TOV (an established and well known IP) sold less than Blue Dragon (a new IP) is telling.

How old are you?

anyways there isn't anything 360 fans need to see, the console is sold out in that country lol.

Question:
How come all these new members are fantical and have the same style of hate and fanboyism. Every day there is a new Nasim-like member saying the same things, behaving in the same fanatical fashion with member scores that rarely reach 1000 before a new members with the same habbits joins.

Hmmm.

Nope man, I'm a French PS3 fan and gamer... Sorry, wrong guess. I'm 33 years old too, so I'm probably much older than you.

Xbox is not at all sold out, or it is since 2007 since it has always sold 5k consoles a week, nothing new here.

And yeah, each time there's a new game it spikes one week, nothing new there either.

It means articles like 'Xbox sold out' and 'Xbox cracked Japan' were ridiculous. It means you were lying or being extremely stupid. I know the answer.

By the way, why are you here ? Don't you play Too Human ? (lol)

Are they serious! The Xbox 360 sales fell flat that fast? So much for the Tales of Vesepria in Japan.

But personally I expected that the 360 would have outsold for the PS3 for a week or two in Japan but that's it because I didn't see Tales of Veseperia being a really huge hardware mover for the 360.

The release of Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant will help the 360 in Japan a lot, but after that, the 360 will pretty much die again in Japan until Star Ocean 4. But once March 2009 comes rolling around with Final Fantasy Advent Children PS3 bundles, the rush for PS3's in Japan will truly begin.

The only thing that will keep the 360 alive in Japan is a timed exclusive JRPG or exclusive JRPG's, but without those, the 360 will continue to be on the bottom in Japan.

100,000 to 19,000 that's like around an 81% drop. I guess most people who have a 360 bought this game within the first week. I think the only way the 360 could still survive in Japan is if they released an JRPG every week.

@TheHater - I don't think it will get ported like Eternal Sonata. Apparently Namco is making an exclusive Tales of... game for each system and PS3 apparently will get one too. Though you never know and if it does than welcome to the PS3 library.

you really believe that MS only had 7200 units of stock when they new a big game recently released??? do you???

this is almost as funny as when the MS fanboys believed MS had serious shortages of the 360 in NA when the PS3 pwned its ass repeatedly... when it was all just damage control

shortages my ass, the 360 had a spike- but now everything is back to normal with it getting seriously pwned each and every week

Come on, you're the ultimate fanboy, crab. You seriously believe these numbers are back to the terrible 360 norm in Japan because of shortages ?

Stop lying to yourself, seriously. What will you say next week and the weeks after ?

Is there a shortage in Japan since 2007 ? Because these numbers were already terrible by then...

At least you came to comment these terrible numbers here unlike your friends...

What I do know is that MS has not sold well in Japan and I can completely see why there stock would be extremely low. MS doesn't seem to be able to gauge when the Japanese market will respond to 360 and when they won't.

This is a one week report and the second week reporting since Tales launched so yes I do think that they might of only had 7200 or so units available because last week they sold many. The stores stock at the most 5 360's at a time.

Why would MS release a press release saying they are sold out and apologize if they aren't? They have nothing to gain from that in a region like Japan.

Are you expecting to believe a bunch of PS3 fanboys over what MS has stated? I mean am I going to listen to someone named TooFlopped? I am not saying the 360 has the PS3 beat or that they cracked Japan but I do think a shortage is plausable and I expected the numbers to last at least a couple/few weeks.

You would believe a lying, cheating, greedy corporation over PS3 fans? My point is that not even Microsoft can be trusted.

Um...okay Crab.

Once again, a large majority of Japanese people are waiting for FFXIII and FFXIII Versus. They are two of the biggest rpg's on the Japanese market. That will decide Microsoft's fate in Japan. Even Shane Kim himself stated that the Japanese people will be hard to crack.

I'm sorry but as long as the PSP, the DS, the PS3, and the Wii exists, the 360 won't be cracking the market anytime soon.

Sure, slam the disagree button over facts.

Last week was simply a blip like all the other blips before it (Blue Dragon Ace Combat etc).

Given the historical eveidence, did anyone truly expect sales to remian so high when it had never done so before? Of course not, only someone like Bruceongames would thingk a weekly blip would 'crack the market'.

As long as they bring more titles of this ilk to the market there, MS will continue to increase its instal base, and that will be a good thing! But its a slow steady path that needs to trodden. Only a fool would think that one game would compeltely turn around the fortunes of the machine in that market. It requires continued sustained effort, and to be fair to MS, they have never stopped trying and deserve what they can get.

That makes me wonder, what will make for the next PS3 spike? And will it ever be bigger then the one caused by MGS4? Eitherway, it looks like the 360 is doing pretty good for an american console in Japan. PS3 will always have a bigger market share then the 360 over there, but props must be given to MS.

19 - Yes, I do believe
That the 360 is sold out in Japan. Think about it-- if all the stores in the country were only selling 7,000 or so units a week, then all of a sudden they sell 5 times as many, chances are they would be out of stock. Even with ToV releasing, do you think retailers are going to all of a sudden quadruple their hardware for a system that never sells? Duh! The fact that 360's are not available explains the sharp drop in ToV sales as well...

I remember a lot of people saying that Sony would damage the whole industry in the 90`s because they where the big corperation and not a true game company. I defended them back then, I mean you could play Ridge Racer with any music CD, how sweet is that??. Now they are one of the greatest consoles makers/publishers/devs in the world. The way our industry is growing, MS deserves a chance just as much as many people gave to Sony in the 90`s.

in otherwords, your (MS will damage RPGs statement) Is just plain wrong imho.

21 - Microsoft always has a "shortage" excuse
Almost since the day the 360 came out in Japan all you heard about was overstocks of the system all across the nation. Now they are using their patented "shortages" excuse once again because Tales of Vesperia tailed off so badly. Just like every other Japan orientated game for the 360, does good in the first week or two, then fades away.

It's almost as bad as when they claimed "shortages" when the ps3 outsold them in the U.S. this past January and February. The only reason they don't use the "shortage" excuse in the U.S. anymore is because they exhausted it.

Alot of you 360 fans like to lay claim to the 360 taking rpg support away from Sony. Well let me tell you, if THIS keeps up (which I believe it will), Sony will get all that support back and then some. This game TOV has a high chance of being brought to the ps3 judging by the sales performance. Just like Eternal Sonata. You all said it would stay 360 exclusive. Well guess what? The poor sales of the 360 version laid waste to that claim didn't it?
