1.1 - The PS3's achievment
was to have the better version. Mission accomplished.
I stopped caring about achievements 6 weeks after I got my 360 (I have just under 26000). They are rarely ever done right and some like PGR4's where you actually purchase an achievement are done right silly.
I heard mention of the PS3 having some type of Home intergradation but I never cared enough to research it. I just play it to and not for trophies or gamer score . It's not like MS or Sony award you with anything for unlocking them.
Now imagine if MS gave you point to purchase DLC for your gamer score? That would be a stroke of genius and I am surprised they don't do it in some capacity.

Edit: And @post below.
Really? Is this sort of fanboy crap necessary in a thread that has nothing to do with the PS3?
Oh wait, this is N4G. Of course it is. My mistake.
God forbid we all just be happy that owners of BOTH systems get to enjoy a revolutionary game in just three days. Let's take something awesome for gamers everywhere and turn it into a fanboy debate! Yay!

I'm not buying this game for 360 for the same reason why I wouldn't buy Halo for PS3. I mean there would be plenty of people buying Halo on PS3 but true fans would know what platform it is meant to be played on.

A very good achievement list. Points are well balanced and distributed, a couple of online achievements to add some flavor and the virus achievement to kill a Rockstar dev gives it a good kick. My personal fav is Key to the City. I love achievements that make you complete the game 100%, because thats when you really beat a game. The feeling is very rewarding.

I don't like the achievements. I get to stressed worrying about my gamer score and stayin ahead of my friends. Like the one where you have to beat the game in 30 hours or less. I'd be more worried about finishing the game in 30 hours rather then having fun.

chances are (my educated guess) is that that achievement will be a viral one. GH3 had a similar achievement "defeat a dev", but if you simply beat someone else who defeated a dev, you got the achievement... so it eventually spread like wildfire and everyone got it.

9.2 - I don't know if they still do it,
but if I remember correctly. On Resistance: Fall of man, on a certain day every week, devs would get in multiplay and you would get a chance to fight against them.
So it could be like that. For example, maybe every friday night, devs would get in GTAIV multiplay matches, and you would have the chance to kill them.

One type of achievement I can't stand is when it involves online play, promotes heavy cheating; part of the reason why I prefer Call of Duty 4, 0 online-related achievements. However Gears of War with playing Co-Op is the only type I can tolerate since it promotes more of teamwork rather than cheating (outside the player vs player crap).

yeah Cod4 had the right idea, all achievements were offline, singleplayer. When achievements are mostly all online people sometimes stop playing the game and just try to do certain things.
EG: "100 pistol kills" or "100 grenade kills"... these can influence people to play differently by just using certain guns or asking others to help them get achievements (and sometimes it ruins game)
instead, Infinity Ward put in seperate bonuses and reward system for the multiplayer. a prestige system as well as challenges... it ruled!

12 - The 360 is the best version
For me anyways since it has exclusive episidoc content, more gamers will be on the 360 version since a bigger userbase on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live and well with Xbox Live you can do a lot like cross game invites, chat, send recieve pics, text and voice messages and all this can be done by the press of the guide button :-)
In terms of graphics we haven't seen any side by side comparisons only word by mouth and 99% of the time the 360 version tends to come out on top graphically anyways.
Oh and I love achievements :-D

The achievements are both good and bad. I still don't like the easy ones like "Complete the first mission" that is not an achievement but ones like "Complete 10 melee counters in 4 minutes" and "Do a wheelie lasting at least 500 feet on a motorbike" are more like it.
Now only thing we need is a use for them.

I was all ready to buy the 360 version of the game. I have friends with PS3s and friends with 360s, but a few more have 360s than PS3s. . . therefore, I was going to get it for 360. After hearing about slightly improved anti-aliasing on the PS3 version, less texture pop-in, and faster load times, I started to consider changing my decision to the PS3 version. I also ever so slightly prefer the PS3 controller (though they are both pretty good controllers).
I know I'm about ready to get a slew of disagrees for this next comment, but I have to say it: every time I've gotten a game that I played a whole helluva lot, for hours on end (like I'm sure I will with GTA IV), I've gotten the RRoD. This happened when I got Oblivion at the end of 2006, and then a few months after that I'd started to get into Gears of War and by August 2007 I had to send my 360 in again. I really don't want my system to die while I'm playing this game. Sorry to say it, but that has become a deciding factor for this particular game, which I can foresee being another game that'll have me playing in marathon sessions which I truly believe are a catalyst for the red ring.
And finally, after seeing this list of achievements, I've come closer to changing my mind and going with the PS3 version. So many of these achievements just sound so frustrating. I hate achievements, as an overall phenomenon, because I have a cripplingly weak soul and cannot help but to punish myself in attempting to get achievements, and foregoing the whole notion of having FUN while I play the game. When I saw an achievement for beating the story in less than 30 hours, that pissed me off. I don't want to rush myself through this game for some stupid achievement, but I probably would anyway. Getting all the packages? Too annoying to pester myself looking for the worthless things. Doing well at darts? Billards? Bowling? What? Complete the game 100% for 1/10th of the gamerscore? I'll never accomplish it, just like I never did in the past GTA games. Some of the online ones suck, too: beat a Rockstar employee? Achieve the highest possible rank? Blah. Blah. Blah.
I just really don't want to get the game and find myself worrying over these trivial things, but I know that if I bought it, I would. It's an addiction, a bad habit, and quite frankly I've been trying to quit.
I think I'm going to get the PS3 version. I wish I could make up my mind! I have so many reasons that I just outlined, and I can't think of nearly as many or as significant of reasons to get the 360 version... but for some reason, I still have not convinced myself one way or the other. Hmm... indecisiveness for the loss :(

Nice Sony propaganda speech there.
"and I can't think of nearly as many or as significant of reasons to get the 360 version"
Achievements (they rock, nuff said)
Exclusive DLC
Dedicated friends list + other features that makes for a solid online experience.
Custom soundtracks
Better controller + rumble(the analogue thumbsticks on the Sixaxis are misplaced and the triggers suck. It also feels light and cheap in your hands.)
Here's what I don't get - Why sacrifice options when you don't have to?

Did you even read my comment? I was making no Sony propaganda, I was giving my opinion. And, you know, I posted in the open zone for a reason: because I realize the highly opinionated nature of my comment.
Anyway, if you'd actually read my comment, you'd know what my opinion on the achievements is. You say they rock, I say they don't, it's a matter of opinion. If they contribute to your reason for purchasing or playing a game, that's awesome for you, but they have the opposite effect on me. I find them discouraging and they get in the way of my fun because, as I admitted, I have a weakness which compels me to try for achievements even beyond the point where I've stopped having any fun. And quite frankly, I'm sick of that aggravation, and I can admit that it's my own fault, but for ME it is a contributing factor in my decision.
Second, I'm not particularly interested in DLC, and if the DLC ever does come out and blow my mind with how impressive and massive it is, then I can always buy the 360 version then and try it out. Just because I get the PS3 version now doesn't mean I can't eventually switch over if I want that DLC.
Custom soundtracks do not interest me at all. That's not intended to diminish the quality of that option, but again, this was my opinion and my reasons for which version I'm thinking of buying. I never use custom soundtracks, and I'm not going to start now. My PC is right next to my couch and I have a media player remote for it, I can play custom music through my PC if I really want to, though I rarely do because I enjoy hearing the sounds of the game.
Better controller + rumble? Well, if you'd read my opinion, you'd know that I disagree with you on this. You may like the 360 controller, and that's fine, that's your opinion. I like the Dual Shock 3 better. That's my opinion. Oh, and it's got rumble too. The thumbsticks are somehow misplaced? Is that a fact? ... No, that's malarky. The triggers suck? That's malarky too. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they aren't just as good or better in the hands of another player.
Finally, the dedicated friends + other features: the only online game I even play is Warhawk on the PS3. It's just fine with me, and so will be the online functionality of GTA IV. I know Xbox Live has more features and it's easier to communicate with friends outside of a match, but it never gets in the way of my ability to set up matches and play and communicate with my friends on Warhawk, so why would it get in the way of my GTA IV experience?
DLC and Xbox Live are the only reasons I'd get it for the 360. However, they aren't enough to convince me because I like the PSN just fine, and I'm not currently interested in the DLC as I explained. Achievements are a DETERRENT for me, as difficult as that may be for you to understand. The PS3 controller is my preference. Custom Soundtracks have no impact on me one way or the other. Faster load times, better anti-aliasing, smoother framerate on the PS3? That's why I'm considering the PS3 version.

1.3 - @JENZO aka THE XBUTTTTT ...............PS3 version of GTA4 is SUPERIOR ...nothing will save x360
"PS3 version of GTA4 is confirmed to be superior
i repeat CONFIRMED
http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-...
"For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud".
X360 version has FR dips too . more frequent than the PS3 version
"Past GTA titles have had mild-to-serious framerate issues and technical glitches, because the games were trying to do far more than the PlayStation 2 could handle. While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected. That a game with great AI, an awesome physics engine and a detailed open world runs so well and with such short load times is a technical marvel. For that, I can forgive framerate issues and some noticeable aliasing. "
