X360 Version Of Wii Remote Has Been In Development Since Summer, Source Exclusively Tells MTV News

If everything goes according to plan, Microsoft's response to Nintendo's Wii will appear before the end of the year, a developer who has been briefed on the project told MTV News. The Xbox 360 manufacturer has been working on its own version of the motion-controlled Wii remote since last summer, the developer said.

Since Nintendo's Wii became a global sensation and Sony launched a PS3 controller that is also motion-sensitive, rumors have reverberated through the gaming industry that Microsoft would create a motion-controller of its own.

1 - that works for the Wii
I'm not sure that's gonna work for a real gamers console like 360.

That waggle stuff is for a gimmick console. What 360 games you want to play with the Wiimote? Fable 2? Alan Wake? Resident Evil 5?

Playing FPSs on the 360 w/ something similar to the Wii remote would be amazing. Play Metroid Prime 3 if you haven't yet experienced how good the Wii remote is for first-person games.

And yes, RE4: Wii Edition worked really well control-wise as well.

I will admint with TC most waggle games stink.RE4, metroid, and Zelda are the exceptions.

However Games like excite truck, every third party game on the wii are the opposite.

I will be playing Mario Kart Wii with a controller, not some cheap 10 dollar plastic wheel. By the way this rumor has been floating around since the launch of the Wii. MTV has failed and probably got rickrolld doing so.

If Microsoft does decide to do it, I hope they make it work better than the Wii does.

The wii is pretty inaccurate control.

And, it really wont be for games like Fable, but games like Ping-Pong and Baseball and other such things.

Further, they'll be able to get multi-plat games Xbox 360 & Wii.

The PS3 controller was bashed because Sony forgot about rumble. But once that sixaxis-dualshock trade in program kicks in that argument will die:P

1.9 - I would
Say to MS if you do this make it for just few games I dont want all of them to be motion sensor like WII. I would say make a couple of game but not a whole bunch. Although if the althogether games increase its OK but yeah Halo Wars would be good with that. But still not more of hardcore games like that or be prepared to face fans of 40 years who play flute from stomach like those of NIntendo.
Yeah be a man and dont copy that girl Wii.

Its about time...what took so long...Id buy a sports pack with the remote (ie. Wii). Isnt that the highest selling software for the Wii anyway (although they do count the bundles for the wii and the remote). Id rather buy this than a Wii (if I can find one).

I still don't understand why there is so much hatred aimed at the Wii. It is a fun console. Is it maybe because it is the number one selling console this generation? Are some people feeling a little angry because their 360 or PS3 isn't in first place?

@ Amanosenpai - i agree some fanboys would hate to see those titles become casual but don't forget to add KZ2 and MGS4 to that list. There are fanboys on both sides that hold their exclusives above everything else.

I don't think it will happen. Plus if they want to port, they can do it now, without the motion sensing.

IF microsoft is trying to get into the casual gaming, they should back away. Nintendo and Sony has it covered.

Desperation is starting to show in microsoft's face. Microsoft should realize that they don't need to compete with Wii, they need to compete with PS3.

Well I don't like the Wii Remote, but it clearly has a lot of potential. If Microsoft made their own version (better than Nintendo's) I wouldn't mind giving that thing a shot.

I was someone who didn't care too much about losing the rumble in the six-axis, in fact i would turn off rumble from time to time in the past. I did miss the extra weight to the controller though, and purchased a Dualshock3 the other day. I had completely forgotten how much rumble adds to the intensity of the gameplay; especially with first person shooters. I just played a little R:FoM and it was awsome. I didnt realize it until I got it back, but I missed the rumble.

I doubt that. Also, think of the cost of buying it. You'll need to motion sensing stick plus the infra-red detector. Another add-on you'll need to buy. I can see them making casual games... Maybe. I don't think it'll happen, just not enough audience for them, it's been taken by the Wii

Sorry Poopface,
But I don't think it'll come out. And even if it did, how would something innovative come from it? Maybe something prettier than the Wii, but the innovation department would be lacking. Plus I don't think the audience would be there to support such a peripheral. I mean, why buy a 360 which has 2 motion control games when the Wii has plenty more at a cheaper price?

9 - Too little to late
One year isn't enough to devolop something that has been on the mind of the people at nintendo for over a generation, and now at the end of their ropes they see the promise of the wii. How exactly will they incorpate this new control into their current games without it seeming like waggle motion? If this is true nobody is going to buy it mostly because of it seeming like a copy of what nintendo is doing, and for the fact that people who play using the old ontrollers are too lazy to convert over.

"I'm not sure that's gonna work for a real gamers console like 360."

Im not sure why people waste time posting such retared comments like this one, and i would like for the ones that do to tell me whata real gamer is......if they have a clue what they are talking about.

It would be such a waste of time and money to introduce the thing 3 years after the 360 has been out. I refuse to beleive it unless they are doing it witht he clear intention to use it on arcade games. Not enough poeple would own the thing to warrent companies to be creative with it with uses in the game. So they would just implement little things here and there which would result in poeple seeing it as a waste of money.

Just seems like they could invest that money into making games rather then a We have this too. Unless its for consideration for their next system.

I find the whole motion thing to be gimmicky. The 360 is more of a hard core gamer system. I only see this being used in Arcade games which are catered toward the casual gamer already. I would buy one for an arcade sports game but I would never buy it to use in a racing game or any of my other full games.

I will say this, the Wii remote gimmick only works on the Wii any copycats PC/PS3/Xbox360 who follows won't be anymore then just an add-on accessory which won't make it as BIG as the Wii. It will only be look at as a add-on accessory.

EDIT: I see disagrees and no comments with it...anyways It is true what I said it will just be look at as another add-on accessory for the PC/Ps3/Xbox 360 because Wii is the original for that motion sensing remote (not gimmick as most of you calls it but Nintendo's innoative gameplay option)

Is the 360 controller gonna have motion sensing? Or is it gonna be a totally new and seperate controller?

And by the way, this isn't the first time this comes up. This was already debunked by Microsoft a while ago.

But maybe they lied, they just don't want this revealed yet.

14 - If your gonna bash MS for this then just aswell
sony's sixaxis, ya know on the Wii, the games are tailored to the wii-motes. So no!! it's not a gimmick. It is how it was designed and is how it is used/experienced.

Plus didn't Ms have that sidewinder controller before?

If your gonna implement anything like the wii then Use it like Wii does, not that half-assed, "maybe we'll use a little motion since it's there" motto.

The wii is what it is, I understand Nintendo and what they are all about and they are not fighting against the 360/ps3 toe 2 toe. I don't even put them in the same category when it comes to the games and how they are played.

If anybody that is innovative in Nintendo here. Nothing really huge have changed with Sony and Microsoft, in the way we experience gaming, except graphics. "Give some credit"

15 - I heard different
I heard another rumor that it wasn't motion controls to replace the whole contoller, but rather a way for the 360 controller to replace the right analogue stick.

Personally, I'd prefer a right analogue stick replacement over entire motion controls (until we move into virtual reality) because it's the only thing holding console's back from PCs in control other than sheer number of buttons.

If they figured out a way to make the right analogue stick/replacement function mroe similarly to a mouse, it would imo be a superior controlling device to the mouse and keyboard.

The Kingslayer - 616 days 3 hours ago
16 - Seeing as
how if the Xbox 360 does get motion control in any form, it will be the last of the three to do so. Sony immediately didn't even wait to see what Nintendo's motion control could do. They announced sixaxis and I don't know too many people that screaming for the feature. In fact more would rather have rumble, as the DS3 controller now being on offer. The good news is that they plan on improving on what the Wiiremote is. If they can offer titles that have an option to play with the new controller and offer features without would be really smart. Better yet it can attach to the bottom of the controller so you can use it in unison. Then also have the use of a headset for online. If it isn't a hassle during the development process that would be the cha-ching!

My complaint is why Rare? They haven't done much this generation. My only guess is that this controller will be used with the new Banjo game in some way. If this is true I think Microsoft's marketing people need to fall back and make sure the control is spot on. That way they can push that marketing button they love so much. We do not need a situation like the RROD fiasco on a controller. That would be the worst kind of publicity, especially if it's deem less than the Wiimote.
