New Generation Zelda

Everything that endures in this world passes from generation to generation. Whether it's a piece of knowledge or a simple trinket passed down a family line, it will follow the law of the generations. What then, with our beloved Zelda series? It has been around for over 20 years now, surely it too has changed throughout the generations. Actually, a close look at the Zelda series indicates that there has been two quite distinct generations of the series: the old generation and the new generation. Currently, we live in the peak of the new, known as the touch generation.

1.1 - True next-gen zelda?
For that to happen, Nintendo's console would have to be, technologically speaking, ahead of its competitors, or at least on par, which is not the case. There's probably never gonna be a "next-gen" Zelda, as all Zelda's from now on are likely to be last-gen.

Maybe not "never", but perhaps for a long time. Nintendo got out of the hardware race a few years ago.

Not really, it would be the best thing to happen to the franchise. Look at gamestats.com, Uncharted 2 is the new best game ever, which toppled Zelda 64 :P

I'm with tunaks1. Zelda is all about a particular style of gameplay. Graphics are secondary. Nintendo knows how to make Zelda; the only game that has ever come close to topping big N at their own game was Clover with Okami. That's it. LoZ is Nintendo's most prestigious IP, and it shows. They deliver GOTY quality with every release.

Leave Uncharted to Naughty Dog, and leave Zelda to Nintendo. They both know what they're doing with these games, and they're both damn good at their respective jobs. And make no mistake, they're pretty different jobs. Uncharted has a lot of tense, cinematic, work-your-adrenal gland moments in its gameplay. Zelda are like the LotR books; a whole lot of exploration, with a few battles to punctuate things.

IMO, of course.

I wish Naughty Dog worked on Zelda sorta like what Team Ninja is doing to Metroid.

Team Ninja is working with Nintendo, so big N still has veto power. That's a bit different than what people are proposing with just handing Zelda over to another developer.

Nintendo didn't even do that with the Prime Trilogy; Retro still had to answer to the bigs at Nintendo. ...and that's with a franchise that has always been the step child to the favorite sons.

Uncharted is like a blockbuster action movie. Zelda isn't. I wouldn't want anyone trying to morph LoZ into a game that already exists elsewhere. What makes it special is that no one does that style of game like Nintendo.

JMO, of course.
