The Last of Us: Left Behind

- PS3

The Last of Us was a gem made by Naughty Dog, a studio owned by Sony Computer Entertainment, and it won many awards for its great narrative and gameplay which we needed for a long time. Unfortunately it did not win VGX's Game of the Year award, it did win couple of them in other award giving ceremonies like D.I.C.E. Now this is going to be a short review for its anticipated DLC, Left Behind....

Blacklight Retribution

- PS4

Blacklight:Retribution places the you in a futuristic FPS setting, there is no backstory and no single player modes with the exception of a Holodeck training stage. Graphics wise it's easy enough on the eyes and the same can be said of the sound, it isn't going to win any awards but what it does is at least satisfactory. Anyone familiar with FPS games will find nothing new here in terms of g...

BioShock: Infinite

- PS3

When you start messing with space, time, and/or alternate universes is when my head starts to hurt. So many things can be going on that you desperately try to grasp every detail and make sense of it all. Bioshock: Infinite however does a nice job slowly piecing everything together, giving out small doses, keeping the plot mysterious yet interesting, instead of giving out one massive helping of...

Contrast

- Xbox 360

“Thoughts are the shadows of our feelings – always darker, emptier and simpler.” – Friedrich Nietzsche Out of all the games I’ve played in 2013 I like to vaunt over for their artsy qualities while also having to recognize a sheer lack of polish and/or several design problems within them, Contrast is probably my favorite of those flawed few. It presents a problem from a scoring standpoint be...

Outlast

- PS4

Outlast is another in a vast series of first-person horror games in which its premise revolves around something unforgivably unrealistic. In this case, it’s the delving into a formerly abandoned home for the clinically insane by our protagonist, a pursuit that I can honestly say ranks somewhere in between ‘going downstairs at night’ and ‘rollerblading across the Grand Canyon’ on my personal sca...

Diablo III

- PC

Diablo 3 launched on PC in May of 2012 after many years of development and waiting. Amidst the buzz and excitement, though, was frustration and dissapointment. Errors at launch, a real money auction house and always online DRM were the main issues fans had, and they hindered many players enjoyment of the game. While the errors have long since been sorted out, most of the games flaws still remai...

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

- PC

Pros & Cons + An intuitive control style which allows the user to control two people simultaneously. + A charming, quaint affair that lasts with you well over completion. + Linear paths can lead to short game-play but the puzzles help to make up for this. - Encountered one or two glitches that resulted in complete chapter re-starts. - Until a player has mastered the curve the control s...

FIFA 14

- PS4

The pitch is sacred ground in most parts of the world, and by that respect I look forward to paying my respects each year with a new iteration of FIFA. Some years, the respect is reciprocated; other years, the game simply “updates squads” and improves graphics. But while the latter is always true at its most basic degree (or so we’d hope), this year’s FIFA is special. This year, FIFA is on the...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

- 3DS

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a link to the past in a chance to revisit one of Nintendo's greatest games, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I have nothing but the fondest of memories growing up with this classic, and to this day, remains one of my all time favorites. I was a little puzzled with Nintendo's decision opting to create a sequel in the same world instead of ju...

Olliolli

- PS Vita

Platform: PS Vita (Digital Download) Price: $13 ($10 with PS+) Gameplay: skateboarding, autoscrolling, combos I was never a skateboarder as a kid. Okay, I owned a skateboard. I could ollie. That's about it. But I really did love to play games about skateboarding. Even if it seemed a bit unrealistic to be grinding on a helicopter blade, it was fun to see those points rack up, kinda like an...

Killzone: Shadow Fall

- PS4

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a beautiful game. It’s apparent even in the first few seconds of the prologue, as torrential rain hammers against the walls of your high-rise before its ambient lighting is accosted only by the neon orange lens flare of an approaching Hellghast trooper. Everything looks refined. Everything looks pure and untarnished. As the game opens up and the expanses ahead of...

Tales of Xillia

- PS3

Being an RPG enthusiast, I'm no stranger to the Tales series. Ever since Tales of Destiny, I've been hooked on Namco's hectic and ludicrously fun alternative to Final Fantasy. Having played the game immediately after finishing with Tales of Graces F (maybe I'll get to reviewing it some day), I could not have been happier. Both this game and Graces F warm my heart that, contrary to popular b...

Pikmin 3

- Wii U

Nintendo, for the most part, is very much different from most of the other major developers out there. They're more akin to indie-developers; creating these weird, quirky, titles - that despite being so much different than the "mainstream" titles ~ they're still fun and refreshing. In fact, that's what most of their titles are based on; being fun, refreshing, memorable experiences. That's o...

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

- PS3

This review is a current representation of the game's state, which would include all changes from previous patches, and it's online community. When this game first hit the shelves there were a lot of mixed opinions about it, so much so that I didn't end up buying it until black Friday because I was afraid to experience buyer's remorse. Let me just say though, I am a fan of action platformer...

Killzone: Shadow Fall

- PS4

Killzone does have a soul: it is gritty, hostile, violent and brutally beautiful to look at and experience. Killzone’s multiplayer is one of those games you don’t play to progress your character, you don’t play for killstreaks, you don’t play to unlock skins or characters, you just play it because it’s viscerally exciting to play. You play it because the maps layout is fantastic. You play i...

The Banner Saga

- PC

I’ve spent the better part of three days playing The Banner Saga. I’ve completed the game twice and each playthrough took anywhere between 9-12 hours for me to complete the game. This game is excellent and well worth the price that I paid for it. The Banner Saga tells multiple stories that all come together toward the end of the game but the path you choose to get there is entirely up to you. T...

DayZ

- PC

History of DayZ DayZ Standalone is what was supposed to be the final and finished product of the popular Arma 2 mod that goes by the same name. The mod was loved for creating a very engaging, long and personal experience that was built upon by other mods later released such as DayZ Epoch and Breaking Point. The Standalone version is the "official” game being published by Bohemia Interactive...

Nidhogg

- PC

Street Fighter II, Super Smash Bros, GoldenEye 007: some games are written into history indelibly for their competitive multiplayer. To play them is to have battle upon battle seared onto your mind, branded there by the white-hot thrill of matching wits and reflexes against your peers. Prepare to add Nidhogg to the list. Not that Nidhogg’s seesawing hyperkinetic fencing matches bear much sim...

Syndicate

- Xbox 360

“In a world where evil corporations continually attempt to strive higher in their next quarterly earnings at the sacrifice of their heart, goodwill, and decency towards others, we witness both Syndicate’s thematic material and a…really awkward parallel here with EA’s decision to reboot this beloved classic as a first person shooter.” Yeah, I wouldn’t put much stock in this one either. SSX Review After getting the newest SSX game for my girlfriend as she's a huge fan of the classic SSX games, I played it while she was away at her family's got a tad obsessed with it all. I have also played the ones on the game cube and playstation so I knew what to expect. The good I have always loved the look of SSX, the untouched smooth snow mountains and the huge drops giving you...
