I've said this before but i like trying to help people save money i did this....I'm not spamming here! - buy it off of the sony online store and apply for their credit card - if approved, you get 100 dollars off your FIRST purchase - including tax, you'll pay 329 for a ps4 RIGHT NOW. just remember, the 100 dollars will come off your first statement - but the ps4 will cost 329!

$299 is based on historic PlayStation price cuts usually after a year's release.

That is just how Sony does it.
Especially now that Sony is grooming the PS4 to not only be a hardcore gaming platform by is set to expand its install base with younger and the casual gamer.

I don't think in Sony's financial interest, there will be more than a $50 price cut, if it does happen this year. I think Sony is selling well at its current price.

Unless MS keep winning every NPD months this year in the US withb being $50 cheaper, which I doubt, I don't think Sony is that concern with it as it is better to make a bit more on each console sold for them at this point in time. Pack-in games could be another strategy they could use like what they doing with the TLOU packed-in for an official bundle in the US. Sony is in a good position.

As this article shows, same time frame and excellent sales worldwide and Sony still cut the price by $100.

Even the ps3's first price cut was $100.

I think a $100 cut this year is pretty smart to assume at this point going by history.

As long ad they still profit off the hardware I dont see why not. Cutting the price by 100$ will further solidify their market dominance.

I know some people want to believe that Sony can't afford to do this but those people lack knowledge of Sonys cost accounting managing. So in reality those people don't know what it costs the form to produce the system. If Sony can reduce the price by 100$ and doing so gains them a huge amount of market share while continuing to give them a profit they will do it.

I can see that happening especially if Sony manages to reduce the manufacturing costs enough. If Microsoft gets too aggressive Sony will do something about it.

if they can get a redesign ready for next christmas and sales stay strong , might be a good candidate for a slim uncharted bundle at $399 , then a price drop after next christmas . i just don't see an unwarranted price drop without sales pressure forcing it , they can only manufacture so many units per year . if they force greater demand than they can fill they can't even make up the potential price drop in other ways .(games/services)

@MasterCornholio sony is coming off a year when they sold 19 million units or so , how many do you think they can manufacture next year even with a new streamline model , if your selling every unit you can make , selling it cheaper does nothing but eat into profit .

Ever since Sony opened up the second factory they have a lot more production capacity than before. Which is why during that holidays they didn't have a problem with overfull demand. They are able to manufacture more if they choose but the demand isn't high enough for that yet. Two years after launch is the perfect time to drop the price to entice a new market segment to develop interest in the product. They already nailed the core and in the future they will aim for the casuals and budget gamers by lowering the price. This will increase hardware sales and software sales which will net Sony more market share and increased revenue due to royalties. Its not like Sony hasn't done this before with an extremely successful system. The PS2 is a perfect example of that.

Now while the price cut might not be as drastic as 100$ I'm willing to bet that the minimum they will do is price match Microsoft's Xbox One.

$299? That type of price drop is at least 2 years away. You'll be lucky to see any type of price drop this year, let alone a one hundred dollar drop in price.

It might happen. There is a rumor they found a way to cut the price of GDDR5 significantly.
