Microsoft Using Promotion as Its Primary Sales Weapon?

GamerBolt: "Many have questioned how a console which is less powerful, larger, and has a similar amount of exclusive titles would be able to suddenly turn gloom into boom!"

Unfortunately, people don't usually do the wise thing and do their research, especially at this time of the year. Parents will simply buy the xbone since MS is almost giving them away with those insane deals.

I strongly suspect sales will go back to normal after Christmas, specially since PS4 has a lot of amazing looking exclusives.

Bigpappy3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

So you are saying that rather than buy the X1 with the better exclusives now, you should buy little Jonny the PS4 now and tell him that there is nothing he would like now, but if he is patient, Sony says they will have something he might like next year?

Fan boy goggles don't only screw up your eyes, it obviously has even worse effects on your brain. When people buy X1 over PS4, they are not just looking at price. They see game selection and price. If they just wanted the cheapest price, wiiu would be the best seller the holiday season. If they do the research, they will find that little Jonny was right when be asked them to get X1 for the great games that it comes with NOW!

I am not taking a shot a wiiu games by the way. It has great game. I think in their case some core gamers are not seeing the console as powerful enough or maybe looking for a different experience that the sequels that Nintendo are so great at providing.

DBL Post.

Sorry.

:(

MasterCornholio3416d ago

You really didnt prove anything with your comment because all that you stated was just your personal opinion.

Next time back it up with facts.

http://www.listwar.com/rele...

Here's a list of games on both systems on case anyone's interested.

Bigpappy3416d ago

@Mastercorn: Little Jonny doesn't see what he wants to play on that list. He wants to play, Forza Hirizon2, The Master chief collection, SSO, Ryse, and wants to stay in contact with his buddies who still have 360 to play Mind craft and COD. How does your list help him out. Point is there is a lot going on on Xbox that isn't on PS4 other than price.

Why tell me its my opinion and not tell that to your crazy friend above. It because you are just as blinded and can't see why anyone would choose X1 over PS4

Kornholic3416d ago

Better exclusives? Yeah, no.

creeping judas3416d ago

This is just my opinion, and cannot be proven with facts. But I would sit there and say that console owners fall into two categories, casual and hardcore. And I strongly believe the ratio is 80% casual and 20% hardcore. Hardcore gamers love exclusives, and the 80% casual do care about exclusives but not who has more exclusives. Hardcore gamers will choose a side because they are loyal to the brand. Casual gamers don't choose sides, they buy whatever seems to be popular at the moment. They also don't buy the console because exclusive A that are coming out in 2015 or 2016 for console A. They buy for what is out right now, they buy for instant gratification. That being said, currently there is one console that is more popular than the other.

MasterCornholio3416d ago

Its still your opinion though. Just like its your opinion that I'm blinded. Just like its my opinion that you get extremely angry when people disagree with what you believe in. And when that happens you go on a rampage and in the end suffer from a meltdown.

Little Johnny doesn't care about what you have to say in my opinion because Little Johnny and his parents don't surf around the web looking for the best console to buy their sons based on what their kid tells them.

:)

Opinions are fun.

Ron_Danger3416d ago

I'm confused about something bigpappy...

Did you just create a fake hypothetical person (little johny) and then give him your own personal opinions and then try to pass them off as fact?!

If you think that what you just used as a talking point is valid to this discussion, then I've got a few diposed Nigerian princes you need to speak with.

its_JEFF3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

My guess is Little Johnny is a casual gamer, only knows about the really popular games... probably heard the other kids at school talking about the new Call Of Duty, or the new Assassins Creed, Smash Bros, GTA5.

The big day comes, little Johnny and his parents drive over to Walmart/Target. Walk up to the videogames section, parents immediately see the much cheaper XB1 bundle... of course they're gonna get that it comes with AC or COD for FREE! it's the popular games the kids at school all talk about Johnny says! They walk up to the counter:

Dad - "I'll take one of those XB1 there is the military guy on the box"
Sales associates - "Will that be all sir?"
Dad - "I'll also take that Smash Brothers game there, looks like it's for kids"

Why o why3416d ago

Hmmmm, the more capable console (proven) made by manufacturers that knew how to design hardware (proven) and has the best track record of consistency and studio output in terms of quantity and quality (proven). The people have spoken big p...move on.....your comments are literally becoming nothing more than comic relief with a srinkle of sour.

No_Limit3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Don't worry about the people that are attacking you Pappy...they already have a mindset that future promises is better than having fun at the moment because that is all they can hope for. Not only was the XB1 the best selling console for November in the US by a landslide of about 400k but it also sold the most games as well so people are definitely buying games along with the system for enjoyment now. The NPD chart also revealed that the 2 big exclusives released in November from the respective console maker, Halo was about 660k while LBP3 on PS4 only sold 99k so exclusives does matter.

Not to mention that the XB1 is currently the #1 selling GAME item on Amazon for the entire month for December so far and the PS4 is at #38 http://www.amazon.com/gp/be... spoke volume of how the people with their gaming wallet have spoken as they see a system with the best selection of games to play now and no doubt an investment in the future as well with not only a great game machine but as the best overall entertainment hub for every media in their home and with the integration of Windows 10 coming up earlier next year, it will only get better.

The listwar list that you guys keep bringing up is just that, a list of future promises that is not complete at this time and not what is actually presented that can be played now so it is meaningless to most gamers that want to have fun now and the XB1 seems like it is firing on all cylinder atm.

Why o why3416d ago

7 million gap. .......spoken

11 months atop of amazon vs 1 month......spoken

Ms ain't dead by a long shot but please don't act like they're now on top because you'll come across as really dumb or ignorant at best.

No_Limit3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

@ Why o Why

Actually, it is 10 months for PS4 and 2 months for XB1 on Amazon best selling month as the XB1 was also the top console sold in Nobember. Research please. http://www.amazon.com/gp/be... so the two most important months of the year with most sales belongs to XB1. Spoken :)

donthate3416d ago

@why o why:

Feeling salty? Cause I can almost taste your tears.

However, I think you are right. The people is speaking, and lately they have been speaking Xbox One. The tides are turning, and the honeymoon is over, and the divorce is nearing.

@Cornholio:

Quantity of games isn't the main reason I buy consoles, it is the games I want to play. If quantity mattered, I would have bought a PC.

If processing power mattered that much, I would have bought a PC.

If price alone was what mattered, I would have bought a PC.

After all, who has more games, cheaper games and best looking games other than PC?

slappy5083416d ago

Little Johnny wants to play GTA V so his mom buys him this ps4 Gta bundle

Why o why3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Tears of joy my friend. We're now claiming the 2 most important months (according to you) eradicate the rest. . . Like Sony sold zilch and aren't still ahead. You guys, Still stuck on npd and still continuing to ignore the rest of the world. . . Cannot wait for the next set of official numbers. . .. I predict a mass sodium explosion or 'silence' like there has been for most of the year;)

I don't get why everyone must hate anything. If Xbox owner is having a good sale then good for them (even I already bought SO at launch). Why must we hate the company who bring some joy to its costumers? Even Sony has its sale too, and I'm glad I bought SAO last week, and planning to buy Child of Light tomorrow.

Every gamers are supposed to have fun at holiday (and good for you if you are the people who had multi-consoles). Why it must be ruined by making it look like they're attacking each other.

I mean, so if Steam was having a SUMMER/WINTER/AUTUMN sale, it was meant to attack PSN/XBL?

Really, shame on this article. This is clearly a flamebait. Everyone should forget about console wars and enjoy their own console choice this holiday.

NeoGamer2323416d ago

I agree that people are not doing their research. You look at the sales of both consoles and they (for the most part) are not based on the quality of the game library.

PS4 is strong on Indies but has a bunch of weak first party published content (Mix of last gen ports/re-masters and a bunch average sequels and new IPs). PS4 still has the edge for multi-platform graphics.

X1 has a few strong sequels and new first party published exclusives, but is still weak on Indie games. XBL still has an edge for the online gaming experience.

Then, you also have to think about things like cameras and OS now...

Frankly, there is no clear winner at this point. Both have pros and cons that people may like and not like. It is more about what you value than promotions, marketing, and all that other BS.

The simplest explanation is that the xbox currently has the best games to play, lets not make it any more complicated then it needs to be.

csbunk023416d ago

Not sure why everyone is so concerned how and where money is spent when it's for entertainment purposes.

I think the bickering back and forth between who should buy what is the product of nefarious marketing tactics built to cause this duality amongst a community that all jointly wants to enjoy one thing, and that's to play video games.

People like what they like, nothing can change that.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto2h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger882h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
