How a Longtime Zelda Fan Sees the Season Pass

Speculating and reasoning on what's included with "Breath of the Wild's" recently-announced Season Pass - and why I'm ultimately going to wait to buy it.-Sidearc

KingKelloggTheWH2616d ago

I am still pretty shocked that it is getting DLC...I mean, I hoped it wouldn't :/

-Foxtrot2616d ago

It doesn't even feel like the game to do it for though

I could understand with something like Splatoon 2 being a multiplayer game aswell but this just feels like it was done last minute.

porkChop2616d ago

Well considering that the DLC won't be out til the summer, and holiday, the decision was likely made late in development. And that's probably why the descriptions are so vague, the content is likely still early in development.

KingKelloggTheWH2615d ago

It seems so random and..Well, un needed..I miss playing games and just beating them, not having to wait 6 months for something else to pay for.

mikeslemonade2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

Games shouldn't be $60 anymore. Because of the low price the devs are trying to taking advantage. Should be $69.99 and include all dlc.

Bahamut2613d ago

@Mikeslemonade

You say that, but in a couple years, they'll start adding DLC. Then we'll be paying $69.99 + DLC... Kinda like a Battlefront Deluxe Edition release issue, but with all games.

indysurfn2613d ago

The first fans that started buying DLC are to blame....They basically told game companies, yeah we can be screwed I want that! I don't have enough self control to stand up for myself. I will even profess my love for what your doing on N4G. And now years later we have even Nintendo doing it.

I'm surprised as well, but at the same time I think it's great since major Zelda games don't come out very often. However, I'm 100% adding difficulties in the Season Pass. That should have been included or in a free update. Additional content like dungeons I'll happily pay for.

nitus102613d ago

An extra dungeon is nice but unless it really adds to or enhances the game it is rather pointless.

joab7772614d ago

I'm not against DLC, but hate season passes, especially this one. I understand the idea of creating a huge open world and wanting to evolve it over the next yr to keep people entertained. CDPR did a wonderful job of asking the community what they wanted and adding it. Then they released 2 amazing dlc's that gave us more than our money's worth.

This is the pattern that Nintendo should follow. If they wanna add Quality of Life dlc, then add it for free. Consult the community to help create the perfect experience. Then, if ya wanna add more content, charge a reasonable amount at the time and let us decide if we want it.

Season passes simply draw upon excitement to make the most money possible. What is so bad about this is that they want your money and are not even entirely sure what will be offered yet!

Profchaos2614d ago

I see it in a positive light mostly. The only negative drawback is the fact you can't purchase content individually since all I would care about is dlc pack 2 Story based stuff.

But nobody is forcing anyone to buy it and it sounds like a separate zelda adventure outside of the main story so whats wrong with that it's great to see more single player dlc everybody just pumps out map packs for triple the price.

2613d ago
Auron2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

They need to release a complete version with all the dlc on disc/cart. Dlc announced for a zelda game is very upsetting especially when you announce it before the game is out you feel short changed. And knowing years down the line this dlc could be inaccessible is really a shame.. Zelda with dlc just doesn't feel right to me.. if you cant beat em join em right Nintendo?

Just look at the amount of dislikes on Nintendo's announcement video of the season pass on YouTube. I guess im not the only one who feels this sucks.

KingKelloggTheWH2613d ago

The youtube channel will be zealots...Other places people are not happy..But sadly Nin fans tend to be happy with whatever they get.

Zeldafan642613d ago

Moreso than any other fanbase I've seen the Nintendo fanbase is more critical of Nintendo than any of the others to their respective fanbase. I think Nintendo fans, by and large, tend to be more critical of their favorite company than the the two. Tell me how I'm wrong.

Dafreakzo2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

Been a Zelda fan since 1988 and am happy to see additional content.

AzubuEntus2614d ago

Been a LoZ fan since 1998 and I'm disappointed Nintendo is implementing DLC into their Zelda games. What's next? Super Mario Switch having season passes too? Star Fox as well? Hell, might as well start chopping up their games with DLCs instead of releasing the full content right?

xX1NORM1Xx2613d ago

I dont really care like dafreakzo i only want the story stuff. Dlc isnt inheritently bad who said anything about chopping up their games? We will see on the 3rd when people data mine the game if it was cut out if it wasnt i really dont see the problem with dlc.

CrimsonWing692614d ago

Omg shut up about a season pass. Welcome to 2017, yknow where even Final Fantasy has s season pass. It's optional.

N4G will be mad at this, how dare you praise Breath of the wild

stupidusername792d ago

To all future comments:
No one is saying Zelda invented anything. BoTW used existing ideas and took inspiration from a lot of games and streamlined it. The game sold 25 million copies, received massive praise and many game developers follow suit. Just like how Apple didn’t invent smartphones, but still made the phone that other companies were inspired by later on.

GhostofHorizon792d ago

I can only speak for myself but I have nothing against the game, it's the same article being written every 3 months that's getting a bit old. There are pleanty of other great games out there that have inspired genres that get barely any recognition.

I think the game did a good job about streamlining some aspects but if it didn't have Zelda in it's name some of the weaker parts of the game would not have been forgiven as easily.

H9792d ago

This, you know it feels like if people don't say that the game invested everything then they are not praising it enough, the best praise that can be given to it is that it did open world right, that's it, it doesn't have to be the first to be the best!

Vanfernal792d ago

It's also about to turn 5 years old... We get it... Botw is great. How about more articles saying RE4 revolutionized 3rd person shooters with the over the shoulder cam. Or how Mario 64 redifined 3D platforming... Or how Street Fighter 2 pushed fighting games into the mainstream... At this point these articles are just redundant.

LordoftheCritics792d ago

BOTW became a copyable form. Thats what makes it special.

ZeekQuattro792d ago

If BOTW is public enemy number one on here Game Pass is a close second. That service is hated with a passion on here. Don't dare praise it either. Only Sony branded content deserve such praise.

H9792d ago

I haven't owned anything Xbox related since 360 because I just don't like their direction anymore yet I can't but be jealous about game pass it's a brilliant offer

MadLad792d ago (Edited 792d ago )

This place is a giant bubble.
I can have a level headed, reasonable discussion on almost any reasonable YouTube video. Even with people of differing opinions.

Here? It's almost always vitriol and dog piling if you're not siding with the majority.

MadLad792d ago

Yeah. It feels like one of the most needlessly hated games here on N4G, honestly.

CS7792d ago

It is such a strange phenomenon? What caused it?

BOTW is known as a masterpiece every where else. But on N4G it is a “Ubisoft game with a Zelda Skin”.

H9791d ago

Yes and yet Ghost of Tsushima, the game that they call Samurai Creed is not a Ubisoft copy

DarkZane792d ago

I love Breath of the Wild, but stop saying it invented the wheel. Open world games existed before that so I am pretty sure none of those game were influenced by it. Hell Pokemon Legends Arceus is technically more similar to Monster Hunter than an open world game.

Shuckylad792d ago

Let’s be honest for a wii u game botw is great. If inspiration is taken from it then great.

AuraAbjure792d ago

It's why I bought a Wii U. There were no other games worth playing cuz I also had an Xbone.

Terry_B792d ago

Hey..another opinion piece from a website with the word Nintendo in its name about how Zelda Botw influenced other games ..lel.

Flawlessmic792d ago (Edited 792d ago )

Look i love breath of the wild as much as the next guy but honestly ur acting like it changed the game or something.

It didnt it was an amazingly crafted open world game, that its.

Tgat fact tgatva few games steal certain things from it doesnt make it more special. Devs steal things from other games literally the time.

So are we gonna have posts about how a crummy game with nice feature influenced all gamers after it just vecause a few things were taken from it by another dev.

Its weird to say this about such an amazing game but its literally overrated at this point.

Something like gta deserves these articles gta and red dead are exemplary examples on how to do open world and the added bonus of them basically starting the trend and perfecting it

Concertoine792d ago (Edited 792d ago )

There were also articles discussing the influence of GTA 3 and Shenmue when they came out 20 years ago.

CS7792d ago

GTA’s open world is flawed in that the missions can be carried out only a specific and precise way.

BOTW actually fixes that and allows you to do the missions in whatever way you figure out.

GTA is amazing and way more revolutionary but BOTW does push the needle forward.

Flawlessmic792d ago

@cs7

Thats because the game barely has a story so it can do that, it gave u 4 major objectives which were all effectively the same. It was the envirments tgat made it different and that i could do it any order but thats all because the minimalist story allowed it.

How would a game with a full on story like gta, red dead, horizon work if it was just done in any order?

Zelda did push the need cause it was an brillant game but people overrate it for 2 simple things, not having a map full of icons and the fact u can complete those same 4 objectives in any order.

CBaoth791d ago

So then it copied the gameplay mechanic from Crackdown? That's all you reference. Did you NOT know BOTW copied it from another game? That's pushing the envelope?
