Microsoft’s Backwards Compatibility or Sony’s Playstation Now, Which is Best For You?

The upside to backwards compatibility on Xbox One is you will never have to pay to play the Xbox 360 games which you already own. For Playstation Now, the upside is that the service will always have more PS3 games in their library than you own, as well as the eventual launch of PS4 games, all of which you can play instantly.

Ultimately, we believe you’ll be in great hands with which ever service you decide to embrace.

Microsoft needs to add more games and Sony has to add a year subscription for PS Now

"Microsoft’s Backwards Compatibility or Sony’s Playstation Now, Which is Best For You?"

Let me see: One is free (as long as you have the X360 game) and the other is expensive, with lag and always online.

Difficult choice. Yep, I would go with the expensive one with lag. /s

Thatguy-3103089d ago

Well let me see one is a feature and another one is a service. Don't see how they're comparable

Concertoine3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

@dboy

PS Now is sony's answer to BC. Do you think PS Now would be there if the PS4 could play those games natively?

I give Sony points for trying, but they might be ahead of the times with the game streaming stuff. I feel like if it were so easy for them to use a better price point they would have by now.

If they can make PS Now happen at the right price, I look forward to it. It is a great idea and it could be huge for sony.

Right!
LMMFAO!
This must be thee most stupid question ever posed in the history of questions!

Winner: Backwards Compatability.

Liqu1d3089d ago

@Concertoine PS Now was announced and launched before Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature. It is it not answer to BC, it's a service that is designed to allow people to play PlayStation games from a variety of platforms.

nix3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

One would choose BC whether you have the game or not. 360 games are probably cheaper to buy nowadays. Just buy it n pop the disc n download the Xbox1 version.

But. With PS NOW you can play games from any platform, not just a PS4. it includes PS3, PS VITA, TV, TABLET, SMARTPHONE. that's the approach from Sony.

It's completely different services.

Concertoine3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

@Liquid

I don't get your point. BC was a thing way before the xbox one. Sony launched PS Now because they feel there is a demand for those old games, and they didn't/couldn't have BC. Let me clarify since everyone has to make this an Xbox One vs PS4 thing, PS Now was a response to a demand for BC.

Playing "PlayStation games from a variety of platforms" is just the fruit OF backwards compatibility, so let's not get too technical here.

kreate3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

"PS Now was a response to a demand for BC"

I did not know there was a demand for BC until after BC was announced by Microsoft.

I clearly remember gaikai was bought during the ps3 days. Not after ps4 was announced than waited for a demAnd for BC.

Sony not gonna give BC. If BC is important, go buy a wii-u. I got a crapton of 360 games that x1 cant play. Partial BC sucks. I want full BC. I wont rid of my 360 either way though.

Concertoine3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

@kreate

Sony didn't need to launch the PS4 to know people would want to play their old games on it. The demand for playing old games on new hardware is not a new one, nor is it something that will go. That's why the PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U, GBA, DS, 3DS, 360, and now Xbox One took the resources and sacrifices necessary to play the games of their predecessors.

PS Now is ambitious, it's something no one dreamed of happening before it was announced. In time i can see it being an even more desirable option than BC, it could be the Netflix of retro games.

@below

I'm right there with you, but I still see the potential of it as massive. I prefer blu rays to netflix myself, but a ton of people use netflix.

kreate3089d ago

@concert

Ic. Ill still take BC though. Not really into streaming services. I dont have netflix or hulu.

Dont care about playstation now. Ill just download a free demo.

TheCommentator3088d ago (Edited 3088d ago )

PS Now has low resolution, it's badly compressed, laggy, and has poor quality audio. It does not offer the same support for accessories or features as the originals, requires a constant internet connection, and will not allow you to play titles you own already. All for the low, low price of highway robbery.

PS4 owners could buy an XB1 for what it would cost to rent from PS Now for any length of time and enjoy the old games the way they were meant to be played, get them used on the cheap, own them forever, and even get to play all the XB1 exclusives too. XB1 BC is a better value, period.

Yep. PS Now is really only useful for portability. I like how some TV's are going to have it as a smart TV. But, obviously if you still own your older titles you'd rather just play what you already have. And, nothing beats the hardware you have in your home. Not yet.

None. PC is best if you want to play all last gen games in 4k/60fps.

Majin-vegeta3089d ago

Pls show me The Last Of Us running at 4k/60FPS....Oh wait you can't?So much for "Play all last gen games"lol.

FasterThanFTL13089d ago

Neither can the PS4. It only does 1080p/60fps for PS3 remasters and 900p/1080p/30fps for current gen games.

TheColbertinator3089d ago

@FasterThanFTL

Hahaha well said. Kudos on the burn

FallenAngel19843089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

What's unforgivable about PS Now currently is that currently there's still no annual subscription plan. If you want to renew the monthly subscription plan, you'll be paying $180 a year. Sony cannot honestly expect their service to be taken seriously at that price. It works well for what it does, but there seriously needs to be an annual model set in place.

But honestly a service like PS Now shouldn't be compared to a feature like backwards compatibility.

Kayant3089d ago

"At the moment, while the Playstation Now service does offer more games associated with its service via a Netflix-like experience, Microsoft’s more traditional approach to backwards compatibility isn’t asking you for a monthly fee or a rental charge to play the games you may already own. You can never go wrong with BC allowing users to simply put their older games into their new system and play."

PSnow is closer to an actual service and not more of a feature like BC. People should stop trying to compare the two. BC will always win in terms of offering what it's meant to do BC and usually free. PSnow is meant to be a service to allow you to play games on other platforms obviously atm that is limited because of testing/availability and Sony still have big investment in pushing hardware but in future their plan likely is offer a service when you play PS software on multiple platforms through a client. There is a reason for buying Gaikai for $380 million.

Fallout 4 is now available on next-gen consoles, but PS Plus users might be left disappointed

Probably won't happen for PS+ since Sony makes a clear distinction between a PS4 game and a PS5 game, unlike PC and Xbox where it is not a specific device game (It's now always an Xbox game).

So to make the PS5 game of fallout 4 available. Bethesda would need to renegotiate the complete deal with Sony.
hence why there's often only the PS4 version of the game available on PS+.

Let's hope Bethesda and Sony can arrive to term quickly.

I think a hard copy should be relatively cheap at this point.
