ArchangelMike3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

So is there NvidiaHairWorks on PS4, because Geralts hair physics look amazing. Mind you the physics in the game in general is awesome (4:46).

I'm loving the combat though, makes me go "ooohhh" everytime someone get sliced in half (2:04) :)

Genuine-User3277d ago

My thoughts exactly. The game looks fantastic on the PS4.

DarkOcelet3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

Yeah, it looks really beautiful. CDProjeckt are really awesome.

The game looks really optimized and doesn't seem to have any frame drops. I honestly didn't expect it to be that good looking or that well optimized.

I guess the PS4 is really a beast of a console and CDProjeckt are one hell of a developers.

PLASTICA-MAN3276d ago

Everything looks nice even the hair and the fur on the animals and coats. Kudos to CDProjekt !

@ above, eventhough that all NVidia GameWorks are planned for consoles (even Flex) : http://images.anandtech.com...

The Witcher 3 is not concerned and won't support NVidia GameWorks for consoles (since they aren't ready yet): here is how HairWorks look : http://www.worldsfactory.ne...

The one you see in PS4 version (or PC default version without enabling HairWorks) is the CDProjekt solution which is satisfying enough.

raWfodog3276d ago

Really looking forward to playing this final chapter of Geralt's (hope he doesn't die or anything). Unfortunately, my wait is gonna be a little longer than most as I don't plan on picking it up anytime soon. Still got my huge backlog to play through and I'm doing really well avoiding new games until I can through some others. Still having fun with GTAV right now, then I plan to get Shadow of Mordor GOTY edition. Maybe for Christmas...

Not enough hours in the day :(

badz1493276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

I must admit that this looks very very good! Way better and more detailed than GTA V remaster. Well done CDP.

nveenio3276d ago

Everything looks great. The only thing that bothers me is the shadow pop-in on foliage.

VickerC3276d ago

Its looks great indeed on the PS4. It will look even better maxed out on my 3x SLI GTX980 PC ;-)

carcarias3276d ago

@VickerC

Except, sadly, it won't due to 'parity' :( It'll just have a couple of extra Nvidia touches and an extra 30fps.

carcarias3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

In reference to my comment above, I'm NOT trying to de-value anyones choice of hardware, be it pc or console.

It's just that I've been following this game for what seems like forever and have been heavily invested in the forums.

Trust me, or if not, go check them out yourselves. There is yet another thread which is set go on for for ages about the downgrades and how the PC version will only have small differences from the PS4 version, except for fps of course.

The developers themselves have said there's only 1 version of the Witcher 3, all games use the same assets and differences will be negligible.

I'm predicting almost Watch Dog like levels of people being upset. I'm a pc owner but I've excepted that VGX graphics aren't gonna be obtainable....so having more than one 980? Pointless for this game until mods come out.

So my advice is this, I've already spoken to people who have bought a 980 or two 980's expecting graphics that are now regretting their choice. Please, don't make their, albeit understandable, mistake.

Honestly, I'm not trolling, I'm just trying to help....

AndrewLB3276d ago

Plasticaman- Don't expect hairworks and other nVidia Gameworks features to be that heavily implemented in PS4/Xbone games. They are extremely taxing and in most cases the performance trade-off would not be worth it.

MasterCornholio3276d ago

Nope it doesn't have Nvidia Hair Works. The developers created something new just for console. It looks great though.

@ajoseph

You seem to be the most sour here though.

If you read the comments, people are more than satisfied with the ps4 version. Its usually people like you trying to put other ''inferior'' versions down whenever you have the chance, which is why you got downvoted

If people choose to play on Xb1 or Ps4 and they are happy with it, then let them?

raWfodog3276d ago

@ Omnisomme

Preach!! :)

badz1493276d ago

@ajoseph5454

And you will find anything to make you feel better about playing on pc too. WHICH is more pathetic considering this is an article about the PS4 version but you still feel the need to show your superiority complex here. Seems like you can't really enjoy the game unless you put down other's preference and choice to play it on console, ha? Pathetic!

Kal-V33276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

@ajoseph5454 i have a PS4 and a Gaming PC, buying both versions cuz CDPR deserves it (collectors on PS4, GOG.com on PC). Where you at?

gameslayer24113276d ago

@KallV3 that's what I did as well! Super excited for both!

HammadTheBeast3276d ago

@Ajoseph

Literally less than 5% of the people who play this game will have Nvidia hairworks on, it takes a massive amount of resources and you'll be playing most likely at 30 fps if you do decide to use it.

Pixelart3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

Lol... They didn't create anything else...yhey just cut and gimped all the Nvidia effects like always.

starchild3276d ago

Well technically it's not just for consoles. The PC version will have the same system in place when not using Hairworks.

Anyway, the PS4 version looks fantastic. They did a really good job with it.

someOnecalled3276d ago

gotta love this site. you said they made a new hair tech for console and get a ton agrees for false info. he says its not its the same as when you dont turn furtech on or have nvidia card and get massive disagrees. lol

xTheMercenary_3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

doubt it, it would be exclusive to NVIDIA gpu's and the consoles don't have NVIDIA hardware.

ginsunuva3276d ago

Technically it can be run on the Cpu I think, like PhysX

xTheMercenary_3276d ago

@ginsunuva Not with the console cpu's they aren't powerful enough.

PLASTICA-MAN3276d ago

Every NVidia GameWorks (even Flex) is planned for consoles: http://images.anandtech.com...
Excvept VXGI which is very demanding even for the strongest NVidia cards and it is very far behind the Q-Games The Tomorrow Children solution on PS4.

BillmadeAGate3276d ago

The game looks beautiful but god the combat looks stiff af...

Kal-V33276d ago

You mean the animations look stiff, the combat itself looks fluid as hell.

starchild3276d ago

I don't know what video you watched. The combat here looks fluid and responsive as hell.

NoctisPendragon3276d ago

For a western game the hair physics is good but if we are talking about hair physics and polygons FF XV is the reference , you should check thier hait physics out if you have the time .

tekksin3276d ago

agreed about the sliced in half part. That was unexpected but welcomed.

UKmilitia3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

waiting for the gamesyde version.
looks this good on youtube i cant wait for better version.

the shadows blending in very close to screen is a shame though but seems only visable when on horse.

considering its a console u can buy for £289 in uk with a game, wow this is amazing result and more than good enough .

Griever3275d ago

I have been checking gamersyde repeatedly since yesterday too. However, I feel that by the time gamersyde uploads the video, the game will already be out. :P

theXtReMe13276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

What is most surprising is there is no draw in, not even in the far distance. Shadows arent popping, nothing. I only noticed one instance of shadow fade in, which Im guessing is a glitch, because I didn't see it a second time.

I am amazed at how fluid the world looks. Being able to see so far off into the distance, gives the illusion that the world is complete and not being rendered around you. This is the first open world game I've seen do that. The animation of the horse is also amazing. The movement is so fluid.

Never, when I saw Star Wars Arcade and Dragons Lair for the first time in my local arcade, did I ever think Id be playing games that look like this in my lifetime.

Congrats Projekt Red! Cant wait to play it.

annoyedgamer3276d ago

I guess that's there secret, they have smooth fade in rather than pop in. CDPR is actually working on the game technology rather than selling DLC.

Utalkin2me3276d ago

No it fades in, instead of popping in. That was actually the first thing i noticed when the game started. How the grass was fading in, and how shadows was fading in.

mogwaii3276d ago

I think you need your eyes checked! There was heaps of pop in shadows, trees, shrubbery. Much more noticable here than other footage which was pc.

Wii_nes_0073276d ago

Pop ups, especially shadows were quite noticeable. The horseback riding was laggy too. For the record, I'm getting the Ps4 version. Im just pointing out that if you don't see the pop ups then denial has gotten the best of you.

HeavenlySnipes3276d ago

The shadows are popping in. You can see it at 0:35 and 0:48

Nothing else is though. I'd actually prefer if they had shadows be lower res from far away and increase in fidelity as you move closer just to remove any popin

Everything else is great. Looks as good as the PC footage we've been seeing the past couple of weeks

Vegamyster3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

Really? When Geralt was on the horse at the beginning there was a fair amount of shadow and shrub pop-in/fade-in, it was also noticeable when he was running around. In combat or just walking around it wasn't really noticeable though.

jokerasya3276d ago

Actually there's a shadow popping on the bushes at 0:34. i dont know how can anyone missed that.

not saying it's a major flaw, but there's a flaw. day 1 purchase anyway.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3276d ago

Lol at your disagrees. I don't see why anyone would down vote you for that comment when there is clear evidence in this video that the PS4 is in fact a powerful console and capable of face melting graphical fidelity. The Witcher 3 looks gorgeous on the PS4. Day one for me.

None of us are calling it a win against pc...

Are we not supposed to be happy that the game we have been looking forward to for literally years looks great on our chosen platform?

It's a win for us, because we already have the hardware to run it and the product is quite good. No upgrades needed. Yes, pc is better at graphics and fps (which everyone knows by now so there's no use wasting a comment spot for it.), but we chose ps4 for whatever reason and are pleased with it.

Dynasty20213276d ago

Downgrades since reveal says otherwise.

benji1013276d ago

It is a pc port.. It was not made for the ps4. Ths is why people hate sony fans.

Pixelart3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

Sony fans are the biggest chumps. They have a gimped port and they still pretend it's a win since it runs even crappier on the heap of S#+& x1. Race to the bottom. Cleanest bum in the city.. Love watching it.

criticalkare3276d ago

Awesome! already preordered this will be my first witcher game hopefully I have fun with it.

clockward1003276d ago

Looking gooooooood on the ps4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave19d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan19d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG

Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name43d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno43d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno43d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure43d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
