IGN- Grand Theft Auto V(PS4 and Xbox One) Review

DAN STAPLETON writes- Grand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is a masterwork for all the same reasons mentioned in our original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 review. Its world is a truly astonishing achievement in so many ways, and these two versions are currently the best way to experience it, aside from the hobbled multiplayer matchmaking. If you missed GTA 5 before, it’s absolutely a game that has to be played. Whether it’s worth buying a second time is entirely dependent on whether you’re interested in replaying the same game again – and only you can answer that. But I’m glad to have had a reason to revisit it, and am happy to find it even more impressive than it was before.

One of the best games of last gen. Now even better. Hope they fix the online soon.

Ezz20133436d ago (Edited 3436d ago )

So the 2 best games of last year (TLOU and GTAV)
are also the best games on this year

BullyMangler3436d ago

Please name me one gaming related quality about GTA V that is so CREATEive, that nobody else could have imagined it .

lol 10/10 ?

Forn3436d ago

Actually LBP 3 is my favorite game this year, though GTA V and TLoU are amazing as well.

MasterCornholio3436d ago

@bully

GTA V is an awesome game and it doesn't matter if the gameplay is similar to previous GTA V games. Its not like reviewers should lower the score of games like Super Smash Brothers just because there were games similar to it in the past.

ginsunuva3436d ago

That's not a good thing

dodo1013436d ago

Yes but nintendo has some great games too.
Bayonetta 2, super smash bros. Mario kart8

DonFreezer3436d ago (Edited 3436d ago )

Why didn't they gave Super Smash a 10 two?Why is that The Last Of Us and Grand Theft Auto V are getting reviewed on hype and anything else get's stupid 0. something points subtracted.

Hanuman3436d ago

TLOU is my GOTY this year. Bought it for the first time on PS4 and it's the among the best games I've played in 20+ years of gaming.

SilentNegotiator3436d ago

@bullymanLer

What is it with you and "CREATEive"?

StrawberryDiesel4203435d ago

And if you pick up the PS4 Black Friday, you get them both FREE. I'm jealous of people who get such an amazing deal! Two AAA games and an amazing piece of hardware for $399 is a steal.

morganfell3435d ago

I cannot count the number of titles damned by IGN, not for gameplay aspirations but rather for technical faults. Now they give GTA a pass. Nothing has changed. You can view their reviews of past GTA titles where they openly admit the technical shortcomings are given a free pass. There is no logical basis for such an action.

I like GTA V a great deal. But the truth is, on a level playing field GTA needs to be held as accountable as other titles. This is just one more example of why additional stakes need to be driven through the heart of influential sites such as IGN. Anyone that excuses 1GB+ first week patches has no place influencing gaming. Bad for games and ultimately bad for gamers.

Masterchief_thegoat3436d ago (Edited 3436d ago )

how this get a 10, but smash bro get 9.8 smash bro is 10 got damm!!!!

MNGamer-N3436d ago

I think the first person car sex gives it the extra 0.2 needed for a perfect score LOL

Ezz20133436d ago (Edited 3436d ago )

Then they should took out 0.9 because the hooker was ugly

telekineticmantis3436d ago

Nah, just bought Smash Bros. The controls are horrible, to the point where it seems like a haymaker fest, and those are the people, who have some semblance of how to control this thing. I haven't seen anyone put together a decent combo yet, and control mechanics are so lack in the sophistication department, there's not much ways to put together combos, not mentioning the loads of nonsense happening during the match. Its almost impossible to get your wits together, to fight the way you want to.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3436d ago

To paraphrase this, you just suck at the game.

danthegamerfiend3436d ago

Sounds like you can't take heat in battle.

telekineticmantis3436d ago (Edited 3436d ago )

@Kenshin/Dan
I play MP for competition, not justfor fun, so tilting stages, and a big yellow demon, half the size of the stage kicking the sh@t out of everyone, may be cool when you have a party night, butwhen you're putting together a good strategic fighting method, it's absolutely ridiculous , but I'll put the ball in your court, go to YouTube, send me the link of the players putting together good combos, while the stage is tilting, and you're being interrupted, by yellow demons, and dragons, show me that, and I'll shut up...

PygmelionHunter3436d ago

Smash Bros' stage hazards and items need to be taken into account when making a good strategy, this is how it's always been for Smash. Otherwise, we'd all be fighting on Final Destination with items turned off over and over again.

Have it already for PS3, and just can't cough up another 6o bones for the same game over again. Same for LOU Remaster. Rather spend my bucks on a new game I haven't played yet. Unless you got cheese to burn, or haven't played it yet.

telekineticmantis3436d ago

Smart Man. Ifelt so stupid when i started the game and realized "wait Ive played all this, and didn't really want to again. Plus they had the nerve to charge 60 dollars, and no knew DLC.

Fizzler3436d ago

IGN only ever gives 10's based on hype, GTAV, GTAIV (lol), MGS4, TLoU, Uncharted 3, IGN is extremely predictable at this point, we all know MGSV and Uncharted 4 will get perfect 10's from them no matter how they turn out.

dragon823436d ago

I personally have only played a handful of 10/10 games in my almost 30 years of gaming. This is not a score that should be handed out unless the game is near perfect and helps to shape the genre its in for years to come.

The Last of Us is one of the best games I have ever played that I would score under a 10/10 though.

The_Kills3436d ago

10/10 without heists? Thank goodness, IGN would have had to give at least an 11 if there were heists.

Cmon people get real...

We all fell for it the first time around. I wont get shafted again until i see the PC version. Then we can talk.

Cost of realistic looking movement.

Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…

Profchaos36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

MetalGearsofWar36d ago

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

sagapo36d ago

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

Zhipp36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

jznrpg36d ago

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos36d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
