Project Cars Xbox One Stand At Egx London 2014 Is Demoing The PC Version?

"Since we weren’t able to secure a Press Pass for EGX London 2014, I took it upon myself to buy a regular visitor ticket and have a stroll around to see what upcoming games are in a playable state".

"A lot of interesting contenders out there and by far Project CARS was the best Racing experience this year, however I want to note something rather unsettling about their Xbox One Stand".

I can tell you that Dead Island 2 had a PS4 controller but was running on Windows 7 because it was the only way to restart the demo. (the game exited to the windows 7 desktop and rebooted back to the demo start screen.

nX3490d ago

But Dead Island 2 is a couple of months away, Project CARS is releasing in a few weeks. They should have a X1 build up and running if you ask me.

TekoIie3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

"But Dead Island 2 is a couple of months away, Project CARS is releasing in a few weeks. They should have a X1 build up and running if you ask me."

Why does the time away from release factor into this? Because I believe everyone lost their s**t when this happened at E3 2013 with Ryse, and that was about 4-5 months away from release.

Also I think your release dates are wrong, which makes it even funnier since Project Cars releases in just under 2 months from now, which technically means you're ok with this right?

In all honesty though this is clearly becoming common practice among devs and I'm not sure what to think of it.

nX3490d ago

"Why does the time away from release factor into this?"

I guess you don't know how game development works, games are being developed on PC and ported to consoles. The closer you get to the console release, the more you need to have a finished build for that console.

"Also I think your release dates are wrong"

Orly? Project CARS releases in only 45 days while DI2 doesn't even have a date yet. They are in full development so they can't create a demo for every event or tradeshow so submitting the PC version is kinda understandable.

TekoIie3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

"I guess you don't know how game development works, games are being developed on PC and ported to consoles."

Thats actually not entirely true. You can make a game on PC but have it ported it to the PC if it was primarily developed for another platform.

Just because it's developed on PC doesn't means it's necessarily made FOR PC as a platform. I guess you never wondered why the term "Bad PC port" exists hmm?

"Orly? Project CARS releases in only 45 days while DI2 doesn't even have a date yet.".

So Project CARS releases in 1.5 months, (not a few weeks as you wrote) and I think I'll simply copy and paste this from your original comment:

"But Dead Island 2 is a couple of months away".

nX3490d ago

"So Project CARS releases in 1.5 months, (not a few weeks as you wrote)"

You really have no idea what you're talking about, if the game releases in 45 days it has to go gold about 30 days before that to even make it into stores in time. The X1 version of Project CARS needs to be 99% finished already to keep it's release date so it is simply misleading to still use the PC version on X1 demo stations.
Now please... don't make another uninformed comment as I don't have anymore bubbles to explain you how the world works.

TekoIie3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

"Now please... don't make another uninformed comment as I don't have anymore bubbles to explain you how the world works."

That's ok, you were already ignoring most of what I was typing anyway which shows you have no interest in honest discussion.

Gazondaily3490d ago

Well this would be embarrassing for me because the ps4 version and Xbox One versions were right next to each other and I said that the ps4 version looked better with less jaggies.

So... PS4 > Pc? :O

Ladies and gentlemen. We have entered the twilight zone. Tooodaadeedootoodaadeedoo

Or I just need to get my eyes testes

Fishy Fingers3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Or, if it were PC it could of been running the proposed XB1 settings?

This is nothing new, we've seen it on MS stands, Sony stands, 3rd party stands (demoed as if console).

Games are built on PC, if the PC build is more stabilised, more convenient, I see no problems demoing that build as long as it's reflecting the console specs as best they can and not falsely advertising the product.

aftershock3490d ago

But it wasn't running at Xbox one specs. The article said it was running in 4k which the Xbox one or ps4 cannot do. It's definitely still misleading and false

ravensly3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Sorry to burst your bubble but ps4 will never be better than pc. pc hardware always evolves while ps4 will be the same

ps3 used to be powerful at release but now you know.

maybe for the price ps4 is powerful at present .

TKCMuzzer3490d ago

Bit generic. My PS4 will always be more powerful than my PC as I have no intention of upgrading my PC. It's amazing how 'PC' can be used so loosely when people want to make comparisons.
The simple fact is, no PC evolves without user intervention to add upgrades where as in general, console games usually advance visually over it's life cycle due developer knowledge.

I never really like PC players butting in with 'superior' comments, as I said 'PC' is such a loose term. Your PC may be better than a PS4 but millions of peoples won't and they never will be until they effectively buy a new PC, which is like Sony releasing a new console every other year.

ravensly3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

i am not taking about "your pc". i dont care about other millions of people who dont have better pc. i care about me who has a better pc than millions of other ps4 users.

upgrading the parts are better and cheaper than buying a new console.

1.paying for playing online
2.no steam sales.
3.multi genres and free non cloud bullshit backward compatiblity.

these are facts and you are too blind to see in the fogs of your fanboyism

Gazondaily3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

@ravensly

I'm not saying that. I was just pointing out how my observation was flawed. There were two different levels being played. The PS4 one had a simpler stadium style race track whereas the one on X1 (pc?) had more detail on the side.

Anyway, don't read too much into my post. I'm not suggesting that a PS4 is more powerful than the average gaming PC.

[edit] also I note that I said:

"Or I just need to get my eyes testes"

That's supposed to say tested. ¬¬

I really do need to get them tested.

TKCMuzzer3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

You back up my point, the guy stated he thought the PS4 version looked better than what was running on the Xbox one. Seeing it may be confirmed the xbox one version was running on a PC , it could have been on medium settings. The trouble is your PC eliteness came rushing to the top as you automatically assumed he was ditching PC's which he wasn't. My point is, PC gamers are so quick to defend PC graphics that they always use 'PC 's will always be better'. My point is they won't, because it's PC specific to that user, not in general.
PC users should always say, "my PC will always produce better graphics than a PS4" instead of using the generic term 'PC', because it's just not correct.

Your reaction backs it all up, then you went onto a list of why your PC is better, making you look worse than the fanboys you then tried to ditch.

Gaming247allday3490d ago

Not this again, do you guys really believe that this isn't up to the developers? that they don't choose what ever is most convenient? or do you believe that Major Nelson is creeping around unplugging wires and plugging in PC's in his underwear while laughing at all the stupid gamers on N4G?

"haha this will fool them" "beat this resolution Sony"
"they will never find out Phil"

Why would they do that? so stupid if you think its some conspiracy

Kingdomcome2473490d ago

That made me laugh pretty hard.

98xpresent3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

I honestly don't have a problem with this . Have a problem with False advertisement

Hellsvacancy3490d ago

Well, it IS false advertising, it doesn't matter if Sony or MS do it, it's plain wrong

DLConspiracy3490d ago

No, this rumor article is just trying to have a point. In other words if there is no fire create smoke to make it look like there is fire.

theXtReMe13490d ago

Yea, all games are built using PCs... so what is the issue using PCs to demo the games using settings that emulate those of the console they are demoing the game on? As per the 4k set... Most 4k sets upscale 1080p images to 4k. So I am guessing that is what you were seeing and not true 4k gameplay.

I could care less what system they demo the game on, as long as it is emulating 1:1 what I will see when I play it at home.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox528d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade526d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole526d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow527d ago (Edited 527d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow526d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad527d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist526d ago (Edited 526d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace526d ago (Edited 526d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad526d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim527d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.

EA dropping Project CARS

From GI.biz: "EA is dropping Project CARS, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

The Slightly Mad Studios-developed series was launched in 2015, with EA confirming today that it has made the decision to "stop further development and investment" in the franchise.

The announcement was made internally and it's unclear at this stage to which extent staff could be affected. EA said that employees working on Project CARS will be moved into "suitable" roles "wherever [they] can.""

Typical for EA. They buy studios that created nice games..and are sooner or later destroying them and move the people to work on the old same 5+ EA series.

italiangamer532d ago

They will put the developers on the 1000th Need for Speed for the rest of their entire careers, just like Criterion.

SurgicalMenace532d ago

To be fair, it's not EAs fault it falls directly on the consumer. Everytime these companies choose to drop a series they're met with backlash though the gamers didn't support said series enough to justify its continuation. Attempting to paint every company as evil all because they're in it to succeed is ridiculous. They have to make money just like each of us typing in this section. If a job wasn't supporting you well you'd quit and find a new one, this is the same mentality concerning series.

TheColbertinator531d ago

@SurgicalMenace

No it is their fault. They don't listen to fans and burn the franchise to the ground by introducing elements that nobody wanted instead of increasing support for said respected franchises.

I order a steak, they make a steak. 1st sale
I order a steak again, they vomit on my steak and charge me more for it. No sale.

EA in a nutshell.

Tapani531d ago

@TheColbinator Well how do you think they make the billions then?

Their fans ARE buying their games. You are just not their focus group, and I can guarantee their customer insights team is more thorough and detailed in their reaearch than any N4G commentors’ opinion on the matter. Otherwise EA would not exist as a company, and they’d be bankrupt.

deleted532d ago

The one that still hurts the most though was Criterion w the Burnout series. Acquired Criterion's tech for their own existing IP, then shut em down. It's basically parasitic. I sure do miss Burnout's crash mode!

Hofstaderman531d ago

Sounds eerily similar to another large unnamed corporation hey. I believe some EA bigwigs shifted to that company back in the day, would explain the similarities.

rlow1531d ago

Must be talking about Sony

peppeaccardo532d ago

and instead they come out with that piece of shit of Need for Speed which looks like an Anna & Barbera cartoon. C'mon .... PC2 was my go to game for VR racing and the first one i played for tens of hours. i was so lookiing forward to PC4 after that failure of PC3 ... what a shame EA, they are bombing all the good games and stick to the garbage ones. EA when you think you have reached maximum of disappointment they top it off with style .... screw them!

SurgicalMenace532d ago

Need for Speed continues to sell so why would they get rid of what's producing what they need to maintain stability?

EazyC532d ago

What they did to this series was idiotic. The premise was great -- a sim/simcade game that GENUINELY got developed in line with its community. There is a huge gap in the market for this...I mean, PD hasn't listened to fans at all over the last year with regard to simple Gran Turismo 7 tweaks. Sim racing fans are screaming for a title where they actually give a shit about their users.

Project Cars 2 was genuinely on to something, it just needed some refinement. But instead they followed up by selling off to EA with a braindead GRID clone with Project Cars 3. Again...idiotic.

SurgicalMenace532d ago

Well since you're the authority on properly managing a million dollar company, why don't you just call them to let them know of your divine wisdom?

Hardcore sim racers are the ones who are competing acrossed the globe, no company in their right mind would focus on a forever moving casual market. They have to focus on those dedicated to supporting their efforts. Notice how you're speaking from a perspective of self opposed to the collective. Perhaps they sold out because they, like us, needed the money knowing that they could reinvest it into something new. PC was a decent racer but very few people mainlined it over GT or Forza.

EazyC531d ago

I'm not a divine authority but I notice a pattern where these huge corporations turn completely tone deaf of what the "average fan" wants.

vallencer531d ago

Hate to break it to you but project cars 3 was published by Bandai in 2020. EA didn't buy codemasters, which owned slightly mad studios, until 2021. Either way the sales were super poor for the game and it's not surprising EA would just drop the game. BUT it still sucks because it's one less sim racing game on the market. Especially because the first 2 were really good.

Tzuno532d ago

and focuses more on cartoon network games
